I go through that too unless I set a goal in the near future so that instead of just "exercising," I'm in "training" mode. Pick a goal and finish date for yourself: 5K, triathlon, family/friends outing, whatever rocks your boat, and come up with daily/weekly workout plans to achieve your goal. It really helps you get…

My experience has been positive overall. Everything (hours, classes, equipment) depends on location as well as age. One near my office opens at 4am but one near home opens at 5:30am. Weekday closing hours are generally 10pm to Midnight. Classes start as early as 5:30am and late as 8pm, with lots of spin, yoga, pilates,…

Agree as you can tell by my profile pic. That and my own mantra: Quality Inputs and Quality Outputs make a Quality Body

Nuther Nutella addict here. Doesn't help that my local Costco carries it. Best wishes on staying on the healthy track. Perseverance is tough but rewarding.

You guys got a good thread going on here. Though I'd mention a recent article on T-Nation by Mark Rippetoe that supports a basic, linear program like SL 5x5 for beginners. For more advanced lifters, it also serves as a good refresher on a basic weightlifting principle.…

That's interesting. I guess it depends on its intended use because your dosage is very low compared to several bodybuilding sites/articles/blogs recommending 3g of L-carnitine or acetyl-L-carnitine with meals and before AND after workouts. Crazy, huh?

I think it'll be too hard to pin down an accurate nutritional figure as there are so many different flavors. That and Laduree doesn't publish that info being a non-US company. Even a similar macaron with chocolate raspberry ganache has less calories per Food.com recipe:…

I love macarons, especially ones from Laduree, the originators. Just came back from Paris about a month ago and am still craving them. The nutritional info seems too high, especially the amount of calories for just 1 macaron, but I guess it all depends on the filling. The shells themselves are mostly egg whites and…

Captains Chair Considered one of the most effective ab exercises out there. To get an even harder ab workout in, keep your legs straight raising them to waist high or even higher like in a pike position. as in BabyDuchess' link and natskedat's rec

Strongly agree. A great kettlebell exercise. Another favorite of mine is Goblet Squats. Under exercise, record it as strength training under cardiovascular. 16kg (35lbs) would qualify for resistance training. Something much less like 5lbs I'd record under say calisthenics (for a guy). As to amount of calories, it really…

Great info songbyrdsweet!!! Though it's considered a carb blocker, what insight do you have into the efficacy (or lack thereof) of white kidney bean extract? Seems like a beneficial, natural supplement.

AGREE. As a male who primarily strength trained, my balance and flexibility went to crap. Now that I have the help of a personal trainer, he suggests I partake in yoga to increase both as well as to attain more symmetry in my overall body appearance.

There's good advice already here: importance of diet (i.e. eating ideally as possible to get to lower body fat %) Here are some more: Posture - poor posture definitely contributes to the retention of a "pot belly" and "love handles." I've had poor posture all my life (borderline scoliosis), and despite my overall fitness…

Probably will get tons more responses on bodybuilding.com or T-nation but you're likely to experience a little muscle loss. As to how much it really depends: What's your goal for your cutting stage? What body fat % are you at now and what body fat % do you want to get down to? Duration of your cutting stage, etc. If you're…

Here's another I just came across during lunch: "Make any 6" sub a salad for $5" But a 6" sub is only $4. So I have to pay an extra $1 for you to leave out the bread?!?!

Skim milk or unsweetened almond milk. Taste really depends on the type and quality of protein powder. I'm partial to Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey

Your weight shouldn't matter but your measurements should. Sort of like you, I stopped working out for about 2 months due to vacation, illness and just too lazy to restart my exercise regimen. Ate like crap too and didn't log it either here on MFP during that time. But I didn't gain a single pound nor lost any (BTW, been…

Carbs - not necessarily a foe, but neither is it a friend. Here's a good general article on carbs that cites several of scientists: "A Reversal on Carbs - Fat was once the devil. Now more nutritionists are pointing accusingly at sugar and refined grains." http://www.latimes.com/health/la-he-carbs-20101220,0,5464425.story I…

I must have a high pain treshold cuz none of the songs listed so far really bug me that much. That and I pretty much enjoy all music; all genres. BUT, there are 2 songs that just make me cringe and pray for temporary deafness whenever I hear them: Say You Say Me - Lionel Richie London Bridge - Fergie But I have to add that…

If you ladies want me to create a similar poll asking for male votes on female athletes, let me know along with what sports/discipline to consider.

So I selected those who are considered the top player in 10 athletic disciplines that your average guy/gal could participate in: basketball, bicycling, bodybuilding, marathon runner, MMA fighter, soccer (football), surfing, swimming, tennis and triathlete. Notice I excluded sports (e.g. football, baseball) with multiple,…
