Serious change in the stomach - well done!

Not really, but that's ok. I bet you'll start noticing in big way after 50+ lbs.

Like the others say, it doesn't necessarily help with the weight loss - it just motivates you to be more active. Having said that though, I would say that in helps you to lose weight indirectly - by motivating you to be more active. Also, I'm not competitive at all, but I have a ton of friends on fitbit and I love watching…

Go to google, type in calories in pizza, and it will give all the nutritional info in a generic slice of pizza. 285 cals per plain slice.

I have the one - steps counted are very accurate (tested with treadmill). Sleep, stairs, and calories, not so much. The one is still more accurate than the flex though.

You need the chest strap - although there are HRMs on the market that don't require the chest strap, they're notoriously inaccurate, to the point of being useless. What you're looking for is a combination activity tracker / HRM, that uploads to an online database. Check out the Polar Loop, and the Garmin Vivofit (although…

Makers or Buffalo Trace - neat (or one ice cube only).

Go to whyquit.com and read everything they have. Then watch the videos. It was instrumental in helping me quit cold turkey after 20+ years two years ago. It's all about the headspace.

My wife makes more than I do and it doesn't bother me at all. Or her.

I did a pretty thorough write-up on fitbits vs hrms over here; http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1168915-can-t-decide-on-a-fitbit-or-an-hrm-read-this

Why limit to those two? Go for the fitbit one, clip-on and concealable, and does more than the zip.

Haven't seen this addressed yet - you may want to look into picking up a decent HRM (the polar ft4 is a great beginner hrm), it will allow you to more accurately calculate the cals that you burn. I wouldn't be surprised if mfp and the machines were overestimating your workout calories.

Those are nowhere near as accurate.

The zones do different things and affect your body in different ways. Check out this link http://www.runningforfitness.org/calc/heart-rate-calculators/hrzone and this link http://www.brianmac.co.uk/hrm1.htm for more info.

The fitbit force and fitbit one are consistently rated as the most accurate activity trackers.

I'll just leave this here... Did that this morning - gotta love those NSV's!

Haven't read through the thread yet, so I'm posting this to make it easier to catch up later, but can someone tell me why I'm not losing weight? Is it because I'm replacing the fat with muscle? This seems like the best thread to ask in.

I use runtastic pedometer on my android phone - its pretty accurate, and it syncs with MFP. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.runtastic.android.pedometer.lite

I'm pretty sure it will only monitor sleep if you press a button first, telling it your about to go to sleep. But why not leave it on anyway? It just tells you how restful your sleep is - if you don't care, just don't look at that part of your info. Another reason to leave it on at night is precisely because you're a new…

bump Going to pick up either a treadmill or elliptical in the next few weeks to help burn more calories. Leaning towards the elliptical because I have bad feet and knees, but we like to walk, and a treadmill would make that a lot easier because we don't have time to do that outside. Thoughts?
