  • It's a good thing to make the distinction between the paleo/primal eating philosophy and science, and the weight loss or "dieting." I ate paleo for more than two years for health reasons before coming to MFP to lose weight. While I was adjusting to paleo, I lost 40 pounds, but I wasn't trying to - I was just trying to eat…
  • As for my latest fat bomb, I've been making quickie coconut lemon bombs: half a tablespoon each of kerrygold butter and coconut oil, 2 tablespoons of unsweetened shredded coconut (Bob's Red Mill), a dash of lemon juice or extract. I found that I liked it with or without a sweetener.
  • Oh boy... I bought a stevia plant the other day, curious about experimenting with using the leaves, and I thought "Odd... this looks like a ragweed plant." I'm allergic to ragweed...
  • The spiralizers are awesome. Just like a giant veggie pencil sharpener. Too much fun, and so delicious. I had some zucchini noodles with pesto for breakfast the other day. :)
  • Good heads-up for everyone,Golightly, thanks. I read that it was a lot of different brands that were toxic - all meat jerkies from China, for both dogs and cats. I'm finding this whole thread interesting. We feed our cats Fancy Feast (the Classic canned has no grains) and Blue Wilderness grain-free kibble (they love…

  • I'm logging, just to keep things honest with myself. Otherwise, I could pretend that I didn't have the cheese I had today... :p ugh. ugh. On the other hand, did great with the carbs. So there's that. Trying to balance a Whole 30 push with low carb and calorie counting.... bit of a juggle.
  • Allrighty, I'm in. I'll try clarifying my Kerrygold butter for ghee, and switch my almond milk with carrageenan (Blue Diamond) for one without. The only thing I might have to keep is stevia. Those links are very helpful for a refresher, thanks! I found this link for avoiding carrageenan:…
  • Khana mu krop - a Thai dish that will make you cry with happiness, if you love Thai food and crispy pork belly. I love gai lan, too ("chinese broccoli") so this is one of my favorites. http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2012/10/stir-fried-broccoli-pork-belly-my-thai-recipe.html If you go out to get it at a Thai restaurant,…
  • I started buying pork belly instead, thinking I'd cure it myself and avoid the question of added nitrates/nitrites. But I have just ended up using the pork belly without curing it, which I think is just as delicious when seasoned. Now regular bacon tastes weird and chemical-like to me, even the 'uncured' versions, because…
  • I'm going to have trouble stopping the compulsive weighing, since tracking everything else already has me in a compulsive pattern. Tracking every bite, macronutrients, exercise, on a daily basis, weight seems like just another daily thing to note!
  • Are you logging water intake and keeping very, very well hydrated? That turned out to be my fix for the problem - 80+ ounces of water every day. Some say if you're in keto, double the recommended 8 glasses. Keto is dehydrating.
  • I stalled for three weeks, but I lost inches on waist and hips despite the scale not budging. It's not just about the pounds! Don't give up!
  • added! :)
  • My cousin just gave me some Lipton Yellow Label, which is proving to be a really tasty everyday tea. It's assam, but a better quality - not as bitter as the assam and irish breakfast blends I've been drinking - almost tastes like an assam/darjeeling blend. Anyone else familiar with this one? It's usually available in…
  • Since I've been paleo 2+ years and the inflammation has calmed down, it doesn't kill me to accidentally eat something with grain. But I'm still uncomfortable - and I can't do it more than once every month or two without the pain accelerating. It's not worth it. It takes too long to heal. I prefer not to plan a cheat, since…
  • I think Taubes' work has had a few flaws, like oversimplifying the carbohydrates = obesity issue, but overall I think his work has been in the right direction with the right evidence. It'll take time - and in the meanwhile, more and better studies are being done. Until we reach some kind of tipping point, though, the food…

  • I love it. But you can skip the water, too, and steep it directly in the hot milk, for a stronger, smoother taste. I ask for it that way if I'm out at Starbucks or something - I get a tea latte "no water" - and they brew the tea in the steamed milk. Mm!
  • Yes!! I pretty much drink tea all day long. I start off in the morning with a couple of cups of my 'keto tea' - Assam with Kerrygold butter, stevia, and unsweetened almond milk. Then I switch to green tea for a cup or two... maybe an oolong if I need it... then shift to herbal teas like ginger, peppermint, peach or…
  • Agree about the coconut oil. Personal preference... my brother and father love a dollop of coconut oil straight from the jar, but it makes me gag. I love a spoonful of butter, which has them gagging in turn.
  • Oh, yea, I've had those cream cheese pancakes, and the 'oopsie bread' which is almost the same thing. Strange, but tastes good and sturdy enough to use to make a sandwich kind of snack.
  • I just joined the keto and low carber daily forum ones - it looks like the latter hasn't been active in a while?
  • I put Kerrygold butter in my tea. Sounds odd, but it's delicious and has really helped with those percentages. I drink a heavy black tea - Assam, and add the butter, then stevia and unsweetened almond milk. Some people put butter in their coffee - look for 'bulletproof coffee.'
  • It would be nice to talk to others doing the same! :) Dropped 30 pounds a couple of years ago once I discovered my wheat/corn (and a bunch of other foods) intolerance. Just lost another 20 by shifting to Very Low Carb three months ago or so, and joined MFP about two months ago to help keep better track of everything - love…
