  • I was just wondering about this today (ndj1979, maybe you may have the answer?)... does gain eventually "level out" with increased calories, and maintenance becomes higher? Does this happen every time or is there a limit? Seems a limit would have to be reached.
  • thank you! keeping my calories sufficient enough seems to be my main issue at the moment... so I am thinking maybe I will cut cardio to just one day per week, not counting my usual walks and such, and see how things go? I agree tho, when I have pretty significant DOMS, getting up and moving helps a whole lot. so maybe my…
  • thanks everyone! I've decided to just set to sedentary, eat at maintenance, and add only cardio calories.
  • thank you for your input! appreciated. this was my initial thought, too...but I'm not sure how to calculate calorie burn for weight lifting. any recommendations?
  • Many, many thanks for your knowledge. You have completely calmed my mind!! I will go forth feeling much more confident now. :D I have a follow-up in a month, so with any luck things will just keep getting better. My mother is hypo-thyroid as well (and took forever to find her diagnosis), and our family history is chock…
  • Thank you so much; this is exactly what I needed to hear/read. I was confused by the normal range TSH… but if you have the same situation, then I will rest assured that the medicine is right (for now anyway). :)
  • Thanks for the response! I am sorry to hear about your daughter, but glad that she has a good endocrinologist. I am still waiting to get in to see an endo… this was all through primary doc so far. But I do have an appointment next month (yay). I guess my question is… is it REALLY hypo with a normal TSH? That's where my…
  • Oh, one other question then… I can actually "heal" my metabolism somewhat by eating at TDEE consistently and through consistent exercise/weight training? Do you happen to know how long that recovery takes?
  • Wow, two awesome and informative posts. Thank you for taking the time to write me and help me! Anyway, after looking at the test sheet again, I suppose it is RMR that was measured, not BMR. I thought they were one and the same, with just interchangeable terminology! Oops. But regardless, my RMR is then 1420. I took this…
  • this seriously made me LOL.
  • Interesting. But isn't BMR or RMR what determines your TDEE? Perhaps I have this all wrong then. I thought BMR was the "first" number you needed to crunch numbers for calories? Can you explain a bit more?
  • Thank you so much, RileysOwner. :) I guess my nerves were just wanting someone to tell me it was "ok" to trust this number and try it out for awhile. I've run the numbers with the 1420 as my BMR… now on to attempting to eat 2000+ cals a day, haha.
  • I know this. There seems to be some major confusion to what I am asking here, so apologies if I was not very clear. I am just wondering how accurate MedGem is at predicting BMR, and if anyone had any experience with it. As I stated, I am looking to eat OVER TDEE because I am looking to add lean mass. However, to calculate…
  • Thank you. :) I know I am obsessing!
  • Thank you. :) I am definitely going to eat at BMR. I have been in recovery for a little while now (with a few minor relapses). I am actually looking to start "clean bulking", and building muscle… and the idea of eating OVER my daily TDEE is a bit scary to me, to say the least. That was another reason behind MedGem. I guess…
  • I am dealing with major exhaustion, too! I think you should aim to have your NET calories at approximately 1200. I have noticed when mine reach that level, I feel much better and have more energy for working out. If they are under that number, I tend to feel extremely exhausted, especially in the morning. My limbs feels…
  • I will try all three! I keep trying to up protein, but I'm finding it so difficult!
  • Thank you! So, I'm under eating on my macros (as in, just need to make smarter choices, not eat more)? Or just in general, like overall calories? Also, yes you are right, I am trying to build muscle and strength. I am also trying to keep my cardiovascular health because bad hearts run in my family. Plus, I just enjoy…
  • Haha, no, I expect some judgements :) As for breakfast, I usually get sick to my stomach if I eat early and then work out. As for the protein shakes, they have helped because I can keep those down and still get some nutrients. Just born with a queasy stomach. :)
  • I just had mine out 4 weeks ago, and it was an ER situation. I actually had to stay in the hospital for 3 days because it was so bad off. Under those circumstances, 2 weeks after surgery I was back doing intense cardio, 3 weeks after I am back lifting. I am feeling fine. :) The first week IS difficult, the 2nd week is just…
  • as I already explained, in my original post, I DID search first. I was looking for targeted advice, which only you have a problem with, it seems. I'll choose to save us both some time now, as I won't be responding any further to you.
  • Thank you for your input, but I have to say, if these questions bother you so much… then don't look, and don't answer them. I highly doubt my question on this board interfered so greatly with your life that you had to post a rude reply. I prefaced my question with how I know this debate happens a lot. I also stated I was…
  • re: adding me… for sure :)
  • Thank you so much!! You're awesome! Your diet sounds similar to mine, but just at more calories. I am hoping after raising my cals, this is how things will start to go with me (losing inches and gaining muscle). I am finally starting to see a slight difference in my body shape, and it's pretty exciting. :)
  • Here is my advice, for whatever it is worth… First step, don't beat yourself up. You are human and food is good. :) Especially foods that are less than healthy. I mean, we only live once (that we know of), and you cannot TRULY expect yourself to always eat "clean". So I would say start by really cutting yourself some…
  • nomad1000 - heh, this is what I did tonight. Tomorrow is my rest day, so I figured it would be okay to eat back my cals from today with some left over Easter candy (which is thankfully all gone now)! Graelwyn75 - you are where I want to be!! Low body fat, high muscle, high calories. Can I ask, how long did it take you to…
  • AllOutof_Bubb - with a BMI of 20.4, I don't believe I am "overweight". But I guess to each their own. I am trying to get fit and lose body fat.
  • glitznglamour - thank you for your input! sleeping is definitely a luxury I wish I had more time for! :) I try for 8 hours every night, but sometimes only get away with 6. zeal26 - thank you! I think I like the idea of eating SOME of my exercise cals back. I dunno, it's old school dieting like engrained in my head……
  • Thank you so much for all the answers!! I have cleared exercise with my doctor already, though she is somewhat uninvolved and has just told me to do whatever I want. If it hurts, stop. If not, keep going. So, I guess I will just stay with the machines for now and try to build up to free weights. I was just concerned the…
  • hahah well I know what I'm using from now on then...
