Active Recovery days?
So... I am trying to gain some new muscle. I am lifting 4x/week currently, and following the Power Muscle Burn lifting program. I put in about an hour and a half lifting every session... that includes warming up with cardio for 10 minutes prior to work out, then warm-up sets. My question is... on my off days, do I just…

Lightly active, moderate...or sedentary?
hi! so here is a quick rundown of my typical week...can anyone tell me if I should be considering myself sedentary, lightly or moderately active? I am 30/female, 5'9", 18% BF. Sunday: 25 minutes high intensity cardio. I usually hit between 80-90% MHR. I also do abs on Sunday, which is 75 weighted crunches, 40 hanging leg…

Hypothyroidism question? (newly diagnosed)
Hi all! So, after feeling really unwell and running several labs, my doctor says it looks like I have hypo. But I am a bit confused with my labs. My doctor didn't explain too well (informed over the phone), so I am a little lost on what these numbers truly mean and was hoping someone could shed some light! Here are my…

Am I over-analyzing this? MedGem BMR question
I spent several years with an eating disorder, so I finally decided to have my metabolism tested. I went to a clinic that used MedGem. It came out with 1420 as my BMR, which is only slightly lower than what most of the online calculators & formulas suggested. I followed all the rules... No eating, no caffiene, no exercise…

Eating back exercise calories?
I usually workout 6 days a week, averaging about 500 calories burned every time. My calorie intake is set to 1530 (0.5 lb weight loss/week). Yesterday, for example, I ate approximately 1262 calories (which is typical of my eating habits). So my net was approximately 762, which seems low… but to me, "eating back" exercise…

Can anyone take a look at my diary?
I just need some help here. I am new to going to the gym/counting calories… and I am not sure if I am "overtraining", or under-eating or what. I am just really spent. Like my limbs feel extra heavy, and today at the gym I couldn't get my heart rate up at ALL, even though it felt like I was pushing myself. Maybe I had my…

Will the nautilus machines work for my purpose?
I am brand new to strength training, always been a cardio girl. I am 29 and pretty much devoid of any impressive muscles. I also have an auto-immune condition akin to rheumatoid arthritis, so my joints are very weak. I REALLY want to see some results though, otherwise I know myself, and I will get discouraged. So, for my…

Elliptical or treadmill at high incline?
Trying to discover which burns more calories? I am skeptical of the calorie monitors at the gym and yet to afford a HRM. On the elliptical, I usually do intervals of resistance 7 for 4 minutes, then resistance 13 for 1 minute… I typically go for an hour. However, a friend told me she uses the treadmill for an hour at…

Can I still build muscle while dieting?
Hi all! I have read through many posts here on MFP, all of which have been very helpful… so hopefully my questions here won't be *too* redundant (apologies if they are anyways). I am recently back to fitness, I was out of commission after being dx'd with lupus and then a subsequent ruptured lung. Starting slow, I went back…
