  • I think having a cheat day, or at least a cheat meal once a week is helpful - so I've been saving up for tomorrow - it all gets logged, and if I'm over, I'm over. Occasional spike days (high calorie days) actually seem to keep the metabolic furnace running in high gear. So have a happy Easter!
  • I think its up to you, but teaching dance and walking 80 mins a day is probably more exercise than the base for the most active lifestyle, plus if you drive one day, you'll be more accurately counting the differences.
  • Pasta salads are yummy, but most are high in calories, fat and unless spinach pasta or whole wheat pasta, not a good carb either. I love bread myself - that's why I don't eat it much of it at all, an occasional whole wheat roll or maybe a low calorie whole wheat deli-flat, but I love that fluffy white bread, sour dough…

  • Sounds good, basically like an interval session on the bike. Look into High intensity Interval Training (Google HIIT and you'll find lots of good tips as far as details and technique). I love spinning classes and you can get spinning videos and do them on your stationary bike at home. I do a spinning class Tuesdays and…
  • I don't think meal replacement shakes are the best strategy for weightloss, I think you are better off with increased activity and filling your stomach ( getting that full feeling) with lots of raw veggies and healthy proteins, carbs and fats. I thinks shakes work for two things - first, to give you quality protein, and…
  • I mix a scoop of vanilla protein powder (Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Protein, vanilla ice cream flavor is my favorite) into the oatmeal and mix in either fresh cut apples and cinnamon, or bananas, raisins and walnuts, or lite maple syrup, or pb, etc. I think it tastes yummy and the protein and the fruit make…
  • Obviously the MFP database has a different measurement for a dash, than 1/8 teaspoon - about 1/16th. One way around the sodium is to use NoSalt, salt substitute. That's all I ever use and its potassium which is good for the heart and blood pressure.
  • Maybe a change in workouts will help, but maybe you really aren't at a plateau. You're skinny enough now where healthy fat loss will be slow - really slow, and maybe even as slow as or slower than lean muscle gains. So what that means is that you could actually be making healthy progress and see no movement on the scale -…
  • Great question. I was thinking the same thing yesterday as I was on the elliptical machine while my heart rate soared past 175 and I was panting like a dog, burning about 27 calories a minute while next to me a woman was reading a book. Reading a book?! We both were on identical machines for the same 45 minutes, but i kept…
  • I think not eating 3 hours before bed is a mistake. It forces your body to burn muscle while you sleep, (catabolization) and causes you to wake up tired and hungry. I drink a protein shake or eat a small bowl of fat free cottage cheese right before I go to sleep (Cottage cheese has casein which helps to burn fat while you…
  • I log every possible calorie consuming activity, including yard work. When I have a big workout day I don't worry if I haven't eaten back all my calories, as long as I have eaten more than my base calories for that day.
  • Hang in there! Don't sweat those little fluctuations. I go up by 4-7 pounds and down by almost that much in the span of a week. i do like to weigh every day, but I only pay attention to WEEKLY TRENDS in my weight. Some days your body is holding onto fluids, some days its not. One morning you may be swollen from exercise,…
  • I swim m,w,f, spin t,th, weight training t, th, sa. Monday and sat cross training or kettle bell class. My weight training routines were designed by a trainer at the gym. tu - Whole body, Thur - upper body - Sa - whole body. I have three whole body routines and two upper routines and I switch every two weeks. I do my…
  • I'm a snooze button man myself, my only hope is accountability. I swim with a guy who picks me up at my house, I can't let him sit out in my driveway while I'm sleeping, if he honks or calls it wakes my wife and kids so it forces me out of bed. My spinning class instructor (class starts at 5:30 am) doesn't put up with…
  • Stick with it - and don't freak over daily weigh-ins. Our bodies loose and hold onto weight from day to day and react differently to stress and hard work - the 30DS is pretty intense so after a hard workout the body is busy repairing muscle tissue and often holds onto fluids to do so, not to mention the muscle weigh more…
  • You can loose 2 to 3 pounds of fat per week if you eat right an exercise right. You will probably also put on some muscle mass, which in turn, increases your metabolism and helps continue to burn fat. You can drop three or five times as much weight (10-15 lbs) in the first week or two, but that's usually just water weight…
  • Depends on how far I'm running and how long before the run I'm eating. Half banana is all I need sometimes. Sometimes I smear it with PB, sometimes I smash a cliff bar flat and spread it with PB and then add the banana. Oatmeal w./protein powder is good if you let it settle, yogurt is also good.
  • chik-fil-a : Grilled chicken sandwich no sauces, grilled chicken or grilled chicken and fruit salad with berry vinaigrette. mcd's - fruit and yogurt parfait, no granola, salads wndy's - salads salad salads salads - watch the toppings (tortilla strips, nuts etc), and the dressings at home or on the run - protein shakes,…
  • I just finished my log for the day and had 256 g or protein today. I've been averaging at least 200g a day for a couple of weeks and I'm loosing weight and gaining muscle. As long as you're not over on your calories, drinking lots of water (protein is tough on the kidneys so you need to keep them flushed out) and getting…
  • I eat lots of fruit (even a half banana now and again - gasp) every day. Each day - About two or three navel oranges one or two grapefruits and a couple of apples. I also add frozen fruit to my smoothies. I'm way over my sugar but at or under my calories each day and have lost 31 pounds in the last 35 days. I'm just a…
  • How often are you eating? I get tired mid-afternoon if I haven't had something to eat or enough water. Fruit and carrots are great when I'm feeling low cause of the natural sugars. Green tea is another good pick-me-up. Keep grazing through the day, drink way more water than you think you should and sip a little green tea…
  • amazon.com optimum nutrition double chocolate or vanilla ice cream
  • I think more and more will be better - maybe something more intense for your workouts as well - not just longer. You can burn as much at 30 calories a minute on an elliptical machine if you work hard enough (hill or interval training). I shoot for 800 calories in 30 mins on the elliptical. I swim three times a week and can…
  • I was right where you are now until I started logging everything on MFP. I was stuck at the same weight, eating ok, just some bad things now and again, working out a couple times a week. Stuck 70 pounds over weight. Then I made some changes to my eating and exercise and started logging everything - I mean everything 3…
  • Just checked my food log today - I've taken in 250 grams of protein today and only 29 grams of fat. So the answer is egg whites/egg beaters, yogurt - non-fat greek is the best - chicken breasts or tenderloins, turkey breasts, tuna, protein shakes (whey protein) beans, etc. etc. Today I ran early and lifted in the afternoon…
  • Kashi GoLean Crunch for boxed cold cereals - But hands down - Oatmeal (from a can) mixed with fruit and vanilla protein powder is my favorite of all. Fills you up, keeps you warm - loaded with everything good and nothing bad.
  • my standard is a protein hake - all the amino acids and protein keep metabolism a little higher and prevent the body from catabolization or feeding off of muscle tissue.
