The US stopped using the oral polio vaccine for this reason. We now use the inactivated polio vaccine. But I know the oral vaccine is still used in other countries.

This actually did happen with the dengue vaccine in the Philippines. But dengue is a very different disease than Covid-19. There are four strains of dengue virus. An immune response to an infection with one strain can put you at risk of serious illness if you are infected with a different strain. It has made development of…

I have disagreed with you in the past, but I haven't hit the button recently. I have noticed that when you get upset about this, you claim that person must not wear a mask or must not care. You've done it several times....once to me (and I wear a mask and care a lot). I don't see the connection. People can disagree....it…

Disagreeing is not the same as hating. I don't hate you; I don't even know you. But I don't agree with most of what you are saying.

Masks work, even if not n95. Masks are not 100 percent, but they do help reduce risk. That is the misinformation in the post. I actually haven't seen any stories that say that if you wear masks and social distance, you won't get it. Most things I've seen have discussed lowering risk.

How many threads do you see on this site where people can't lose weight while eating 1200 calories. And generally the answer is that they are not eating 1200 calories. People are not good at self reporting behavior. My mother will tell you she is compliant, and she believes it. But she isn't. It's still possible to get…

This is not the first time a virus has gone rogue.....HIV is a good example. It's still an issue, with no vaccine yet.

If you read my post, I actually said that obesity can lead to worse outcomes. But it isn't causing these lockdowns, which is the point I'm trying to make.
-
The places that you mentioned as having lower death rates also locked down, in some cases way more than we ever did. They are also better about wearing masks. In short, they did a much better job of controlling the virus. You mentioned Japan.....despite it's lower obesity rate, they are on the verge of declaring a virus…

I don't feel like I'm sacrificing because of obese people. I actually don't even understand how one would think that. I'm sacrificing for everyone, and especially for the elderly. Obesity may lead to more severe outcomes, but it isn't causing this pandemic. This virus is wreaking havoc worldwide, even in countries with…

Keep em coming! Everything looks yummy.

Please post stories about healthy people dying of CoVid 19 who are 400 pounds. This isn't what I see at all. Yes, taking steps to lose weight may decrease severity of disease. But BS statements like this are not helpful.

I hate self checkout.

Thanks for that input. I think the fact that the flu season is just getting started in the US makes this especially worrisome, for both patients and healthcare workers. I have a number of students who work in healthcare, and I know the demands can be overwhelming.

You don't shed the virus after vaccination...at least not with the RNA or spike protein vaccines. If you become infected, then you may shed it. Sorry if this is what you meant.

We're done except for the turkey. My husband's buying it now. He sent me a picture.... absolutely no toilet paper or paper towels today. We are near Winston Salem, NC.

On This Week in Virology, the infectious disease doctor mentioned monitoring oxygen stats, especially in the second week. We have one from Amazon. I made my sister in FL get one too. ETA. I see this was already mentioned by one of the other TWiV listeners :).

I was the first person to disagree with your post about prison for those not complying. I don't believe that is the answer. So I disagree. I social distance and wear a mask. I haven't been to a restaurant or inside a store since March. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they are not doing the right thing.…

I'm interested in learning more.

Yeah, I enjoyed walking the neighborhood with my kids. That was part of the fun.

I recently read this interesting article on Africa and Covid 19. It stated that part of Africa's 'success' may be that many African countries have very strong surveillance, contact tracing, and quarantining protocols in place because of the high prevalence of infectious disease, including Ebola. It also discussed that more…

I think there is only one TB vaccine. I would imagine they are still working on this. I could be wrong, but I couldn't find a different TB vaccine other than BCG.

I never thought about baking them. Definitely going to try!

I agree. Just a wish lol.

I would like to see masks used more during flu season. Not mandated....but just a shift to people using the..

I actually am really tired of the term sheep. Why am I a sheep and you're not. We are both following our own agendas. I don't know why so many of you who are against masks think that all of us who wear them are only doing it because the government says to. I have kept up with work on this virus. I choose to wear a mask…

I don't live in fear. As a microbiologist, I respect this virus and the damage it can do. I am living my life accordingly for now, to protect me, my family, and my community.
