I am in about the same position you are with ~10-15 pounds to lose. I have been doing SL for just over 2 months (back at it after ~6 month break-was doing AllPro Beginner's then). At the same time I started doing TDEE. Initially, I ate TDEE+100 cals (1800) on lifting days and TDEE-300 cals on non-lifting days. After a…

Thanks for that! I laughed so hard I almost had an accident. Glad I have my own office at work :-)

That is awesome knowledge and definitely a great motivator! Your loss (recomp) is going very well!!! Kudos to you threnjen!

Okay, somehow I missed this but as a 50 year old woman (soon to be 51) I think it's time for me to chime in. I love what Crabada says: fun and joy go hand in hand with success in weight loss! @mimi337: I started lifting weights last year before I turned 50. My motivation was (and still is) to stay as young and strong as I…

@Dawn---instead of fractionals I went to the hardware store and bought a bunch of large washers. Each one is ~0.2 lbs. I add 6 on each side for 1.2x2 pounds. Easily scalable and very inexpensive!! @Daiva--you are doing great!! Big workout day today! Gonna be sore tomorrow! Squat 5x7 70 (slight deload; 75 felt too heavy…

@crabada--45 second plank is awesome! @Sumiblue--way to go on the pullups! I started with the convict conditioning pullup progression. I think it's better than Scooby's. Time will tell :-) @Dawn--you are progressing so quickly! I've always been told to work to the level of your weakest side. I also am stronger on right…

I just replaced a CAP FID Bench with and XMark 7604 bench. I would never by anything from CAP again. The bench was cheap and unstable. I felt that it might collapse under me at any time. The new XMark bench is as solid as a rock and very comfortable. $350 for the first setup is an excellent price and the bench looks very…

Thanks for the link. I finally was able to watch the whole thing through. He is a beast! Very helpful, and um, entertaining. Thanks Dawn!

I agree with everyone here. Welcome back and good luck! You will find that everyone here is very helpful. I also find that I need to increase in reps before I can increase in weight...

This is one of my goals for the year too! I am 50 (soon to be 51). It's great to hear everyone's comments. I am using Scooby's progression and it is going very slowly. I'll be happy with one by the end of the year but hopefully it will take less time! Good on you OP! We can all be the over 50 pull-up team!!

Yep, that's what I was going to say too ;) BTW: I am in Ontario and have a Suunto Quest. Very good but would've liked one with a GPS better.

Omlette with add-ins. Cheese, spinach, ham, bacon, onions, peppers--anything you have on hand.

Burpees: the exercise you love to hate!! What makes them so hard IMO is that they a) require lots of hip flexibility and b) require very strong back muscles. It's an exercise, that if not done properly (especially when you get older) can easily lead to injury. Not a reason not to do them, but you just need to be smart…

I found this while looking around. The article discusses femur length but it is possible that femur/tibia ratio may also be an important factor. schwarzenegger.com/fitness/post/picking-the-squat-thats-rght-for-you

Great job everyone! I ordered my new bench (to go with the squat rack) it should arrive some time next week!! Today's Workout Squat 5x6 @ 70 lbs Going up in reps Press--fail big time :-( 3x5 @ 50, 1x5 @ 45, 1x5 @ 40 Even the 40 lb lift felt heavy. I think it was because I did the chinup walk the plank first and my arms…

Absolutely (in a very good way)! Burpees and mountain climbers are exercises I love to hate. Still can't do them correctly. They require a degree of hip flexiblity that I currently do not have but working on it...:-)

Before 5x5 I did AllPro Beginner's routine. It was progressive 3x8/9/10/11/12 so you only increased in weight every 6 weeks. It had other accessory lifts as well. At some point in time I might consider going back to it. Currently I also bike, treadmill, do fitness blender and mix in bicep/tricep work into routines.

If you have problems with hip flexibility (as I do) try third world squats and Joe DeFranco's Limber 11.
-
Agreed!!!

@mirrim52 awesome lifts for your second A workout! @crabada the deadlift queen! @DaivaSimone I tend to agree with crabada on this one--proper form trumps all.
