  • Good story: I started running a few weeks ago, and I absolutely loved it. I was doing C25k, and I made a special playlist of songs that made me want to run, and I was having so much fun with it! I was waking up early 3 times a week to get a run in before it got too hot out. I can't describe how good it felt to finally run.…
  • I definitely see a difference in your face, and a little difference in your tummy. You look like you're built a lot like me, so if you lose like me, keep watching your waist. It's always the first to go for me, and it's where I tend to notice things first. :)
  • My first 15 pounds came off in the span of 4 weeks, and rest has been .5-2lbs a week when I'm not plateauing. Your loss is fine, especially since you have a good bit to lose. It will slow down as you lose more and more, so don't get discouraged when that happens! Even if you're not losing at all for a while, eating better…
  • I lost the vast majority of my weight eating pizza for dinner almost every day because I was in college, and that's all that the cafeteria had that I liked. I planned my snacks around it because I knew I would want it. I lost my first 60 pounds in college eating a lot of pizza. Losing weight isn't about what you're eating,…

  • I have a completely fat free alfredo recipe I use. My recipe serves two, but of course you can just multiply it by however many people if you need more. It consists of the following: - 2 tbsp I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (or other fat free butter substitute) -4oz fat free cream cheese -1/4 cup fat free shredded…
  • Chicken breast and egg whites are my favorite low-fat, high protein foods.
  • Losing 1 lb a week, if it keeps going steady, means that you will lose 30 lbs in 30 weeks. You know how long it takes me to lose 30 lbs? Over a year. I've lost almost 70 lbs, and that has taken me 3+ years. There will be times when you might drop 3lbs randomly in one week, and not lose anything the next. That's just how it…
  • Born and raised in West Virginia, just moved to Maine a month ago!
  • Childhood obesity is fun. I think I started getting fat at around age...8, or maybe 9 at the latest. My mom cooked delicious, yet horrendous food, let my siblings and me drink as much soda as we wanted, and there were zero restrictions on TV time, video games, or candy binging. So yep. My new friends in college decided…
  • I dated a guy whose mom was a nightmare. He lived with his parents, and they basically used him for slave labor on their farm, which wouldn't be so bad except that they basically halted his life entirely so that he could work for them. We were in our EARLY TWENTIES. If he came to see me, he had to be home by 1 AM. In the…
  • I would seriously recommend starting with walking. I started with 20 minutes of walking and slowly added more until I was doing an hour every day. Just recently, I felt comfortable enough with my weight (70 lbs down) to try running. I'm doing the C25k app and easing my way into it. Wait until you get relatively close to…
  • You should get a pedometer, wear it to work, and see how much you're walking while you're there. That might give you a good idea. If you have an iPhone or Android phone, Striiv is a pretty good app, and it has the option of syncing with MFP so you don't have to worry about logging your exercise yourself.
  • I definitely have always had to fit one in. When I first started losing, I had cheat weekends because it was hard for me to keep up the good habits when I went home from college on weekends. When I was home for long stretches of time, I'd hide in my room, away from the dining room area because Mom was always munching on…
  • Hi, guys. I'm 25, a recent college graduate, recently married, and recently relocated. I've been getting all my socialization here since I don't know anybody where I live (800 miles from my hometown). I've lost nearly 70 lbs -- Only 5 pounds away from my first big goal, 20 away from where I think I will be happy.
  • I'm 5'3". I'm 5 pounds away from my first big goal at 140. I thought that would be enough, but now that I'm close, I know that 5 pounds down from here is not going to be my happy place, so after I get there, I'm going to aim for 125.
  • Nope, 1200 is fine. That's about what I eat all the time. As long as you have enough energy, it should be fine. I'd recommend changing your workout routine if you're stuck. Add in some light toning with your cardio, or something like that just for a little extra push. Plateaus are a part of weightloss, and I've seen my…
  • I would either average it or put in the lower amount. You don't want to overeat because you overestimated your calorie burn!
  • I've been doing it super slow. 70lbs in 3 years. On the plus side, it's taken me long enough that my appetite has completely changed, and I don't see myself ever going back to overeating. Slow and steady wins the race!
  • Yeah, it is the most important thing! I can feel my hip bones where I am, so I know I probably could never get below a size 6 or so in jeans just because of how wide they are. I'm not too worried about it; I like my shape, just not the extra fat that's on it. ;) You keep working and don't get discouraged if your clothing…
  • It really depends on your body shape and how/where you lose. I wore a (tight) 16 when I was 214 pounds, and I wasn't able to get into a 14 until I was in the 180s, and just recently got into a 10 at 145 pounds. I have an hourglass shape, which means I have super wide hips, so it's hard for me to fit things over them. I say…
  • Here's a tip: Enjoy. your. vacation! Through a few years of working on healthy eating and exercising and all that jazz, I've found that it all comes down to habit. And a lot of habits are reenforced by environment. For example, I have a tendency to eat a LOT when I'm at my mom's because that's what we always did there,…
  • Hi! My name is Amber, I'm 25, and I very recently got married and moved to Newcastle, Maine -- 800 miles away from my hometown in West Virginia! I started losing weight in college and have basically been slowly, but steadily losing for the past few years. I'm up to almost 70 pounds gone now! I'd like to lose about 20 more,…
  • I totally get hungrier around that time. Also, you might try eating more fiber and protein. They'll make you feel fuller, and it's good for you, too! Make sure you drink lots of water, too.
  • When I started losing weight, I was with a guy who was totally unsupportive and refused to even so much as go for a walk with me when I asked. During that time, a friend of mine had a huuuge crush on me, even though I was at my heaviest. And, well, now we're married. He always tells me that he thinks I'm beautiful just…
  • Snyder's makes these great flavored pretzel snacks called Nibblers. The fat content isn't too bad, and the sodium content is waaaay lower than what you'd expect for something like that. And they're really good! I like the cheese medley and the garlic ones.
  • Always my waist. Never my arms. :(
  • It has taken me 3 years to lose 67 pounds, and even though it's taken me a lot longer to get to my goal than it's taken a lot of other people, at least I'm doing it. I'm getting there. I am very, very close to a healthy weight. Going slow has made me develop lasting habits and keep my weight from yoyoing. Because I lost…
  • I've lost 66 pounds, and I've gone from a 38/40 DD to a 36 DD. My boobs are a little smaller, but they're still pretty big compared to the rest of me like they always have been. Anyway, once you've lost weight, you'll be happy enough with your new, fit body that you really won't care that much about your boobs anymore.…
  • Half a pound a week is not bad or slow at all! If it's bothering you, though, I very highly recommend upping your exercise. I usually aim to burn around 200-300 with exercise a day, not a week. Try taking an hour long walk every day, or finding some cardio videos you like that you can do every day.
  • My best advice is... slow and steady wins the race. Don't try to lose too fast. Take your time, and let those new habits really sink in. And don't deprive yourself of what you like. Just have the bad stuff in moderation and work your calories/macro/exercise goals around it. Log everything every day. Good luck!
