Or incorporate them in small quantities so you get the flavor without the caloric whammy. (A big chunk of cheese screws up my macros. A little sprinkled on something doesn't, and still tastes darn good.)

BTW, I want a LIKE button for some of these quotes.

With a little planning and picking the right recipes, it's possible to satisfy my foodie side* and still lose weight. * Although I still haven't figured out how to enjoy the chef's amazing seven-course tasting menu at my favorite restaurant and eat something other than lettuce for the rest of the week. Since this is a…

I see what you're hoping to achieve. Flour has a startling amount of calories so you're hoping for the pancake effect without the calories, or the carbs if you have reasons to cut those. Still, I think I'll plan for regular pancakes with bananas and then go for a hike or have a salad for lunch. Sounds much less likely to…

I never would have thought of that, but it sounds tasty. I'll be giving that a try sometime.

Bump! I like to hike and those would be great to take along for quick energy, as they're reasonably nutritious and yet decadent. (And when you're climbing a mountain or something, if you somehow eat more than one or two, it all balances out.)

I've always loved good food and wine, and until recently had a ludicrously high metabolism--seriously, I ate as much as or more than my 6'1", active husband and didn't gain. Then I got into perimenopause, got a job with a crazy commute so I ended up being less active, got depressed because I hated the job with the crazy…

Ship your natural PB to me and get the kind you like. We're a two-jar household. My husband likes smooth Jif. I like extra-chunky natural.

I've had a couple of days like since I started just after Christmas (Important safety tip: never skip lunch, then sit right next to the cheese board during cocktails. Just saying!) and it's all balanced out in the long run. Don't beat yourself up, just eat less and/or exercise more for the rest of the week.

I eat. I drink in moderation. I cook all the time. I'm sitting here having a delicious stirfry right now and may go back for more, since I have the calories. And I'm losing weight. (Well, not so much this week. My foodie friends and I had a long-planned weekend party and there was no way I was going to lose then!) I'm more…

Other than the weight loss goal, my physical goal is pretty simple: be able to climb in the White Mountains this spring without undue huffing and puffing. Even the very fit friend I hope to climb with does SOME huffing and puffing when going up a mountain, but not feeling like I want to die would spare me embarrassment and…

Fitness is the long-term motivation, but fashion, or at least self-confidence about my looks, played a part in getting me started. I have a couple of amazing cocktail dresses that I want to fit into again, and I wasn't keen on realizing I cringed whenever my husband touched my belly. (FWIW, he likes my little round belly…

I use relatively little dressing, so I don't really care if it's full fat--for 1/2 TB, it's still not going to be a ton of calories. Right now I'm using a 3:1 olive oil/lemon juice blend with dried basil. 44 calories for 1/2 TB, salt-free and sugar-free except for what occurs naturally in the ingredients, and delicious.

Belly fat seems to be the last to go for many women. I have a theory that way back in our evolutionary history, it served a purpose. (Extra protection for the womb? A last reserve in case of famine?) Don't know if it's true, but it makes me feel better that maybe it's so hard to lose because I'm fighting evolution.

So bring a friend who's not trying to lose weight--preferably a burly guy who skipped breakfast today. Split the pizza, but make sure your friend gets more. Problem solved.

http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/fettuccine-alfredo-10000001571495/ 400 calories including the pasta, and it tastes surprisingly close to the decadent original. I'm not usually one for using low-fat substitutes, but the original is so ridiculously rich I'll make an exception.

Uh, where's the cheese? I'm not doubting it's tasty, and I might try it sometime, but it's not "Alfredo" without Parmesan.
-
I find the problem isn't the fillings--I've always made mine full of veggies and lean protein, just because we like the veggies and we often make tacos to finish up a roast chicken or turkey--but the tortillas, especially the gigantic flour tortillas I used to use. So I've switched to small corn tortillas, or just eat a…

Did anyone else read this thread as an appetite suppressant? Worked for me!

At my yoga class, the teacher always includes an affirmation to the effect of "Thank yourself for taking this hour to do something good for yourself." We're women of all ages--moms of kids still at home, moms with grown kids who still have FT mom habits, folks like me who don't have kids but are self employed and might…

Good cheese. I can portion out a reasonable amount of a decent but not extraordinary cheese, like a sharp cheddar from the grocery store or American "Parmesan", but get me near the really high-end artisanal stuff and I'm a goner. Luckily that's a self-regulating problem since artisanal cheese is so expensive it would be a…

Always remember that overeating isn't the best choice (at least if it's not something really tasty and worthwhile that's worth some extra gym time), but it's not a sin. It doesn't make you a bad person, so there's no need to feel guilty or agonize about it beyond taking a few minutes to figure out the best way to balance…

FYI, the OP is no longer on MFP. (Went to take a look at her profile and bingo! she's not there.)

I had only about 20 pounds to lose, so I set up for .5 lb/week, which for me comes out to 1630 calories. I seem to be losing more than that most weeks. (I don't eat back all my exercise calories because I know sometimes I'm sloppy with measuring my food.)
-
If that were true, I wouldn't need to be here.
-
Funny. I'm losing weight just fine eating back most (not all) of my exercise calories. Might I lose faster if I didn't? No, because before I'd start eating anything that didn't try to get away from me, possibly including furniture.

I think I like the sound of your country. Where do you live? May need to move there, or at least visit!

From what my doctor told me, it's fairly rare for people in the north not to be somewhat D-deficient, at least people with desk jobs. We spend a lot of time indoors, and when the weather is good enough to tempt us outside, women especially tend to be religious about wearing sunscreen. Sunscreen's great, but it cutd down on…

Iron and Calcium/Vitamin D, both on doctor's advice, and a multivitamin, although I'm not sure I actually need the latter at this point. (My B vitamins used to be low. Not sure they still are, due to dietary and lifestyle changes.) I used to take large doses of vitamin C if I feel like I'm getting sick, but when I looked…

You will get better at this. While I'm not a yoga expert, I do practice. A towel or something around the ankle might be a good modification...or just skipping that pose for a few sessions until you gain a little more flexibility. Your knees have been through a lot, and one thing you learn if you take a yoga class (as…
