  • My autocross car, Tom Celica. I built that.
  • I wear an UP and I usually get my steps in. During the day at work, if I have 10 minutes with nothing to do I try to go into the conference room and walk (kind of fast) around the big table. Some days I can do that a couple of times. Really adds up. I'm training for a run right now, so getting steps in isn't a problem. But…
  • Some people want to try a low carb diet. Some say it is working for them. Others think it has no basis in reality. While still others think it helps create a calorie deficit that leads to weight loss. That about cover it? I think those opinions are adequately expressed in this thread now. Anyone else have any input on the…
  • Yup. Worth finding a store that will properly fit you. It's all about how YOU run and how YOUR foot works. A shoe that works for one person may be completely wrong for another.
  • No one (I think) disagrees with this. It's semantics again. If the above is what you mean when you say "calories in vs. calories out is flawed" you are not technically wrong. But the other posts in this thread were very good about qualifying that statement with something like "with regards to weight loss". "Flawed" is a…
  • Completely know what you mean! I did a lot of the same things you did. I also learned a lot when I got my food scale. You hear it a lot on here. Most folks who don't see results seem to either be eating more than they realize or over-estimating calories burned doing exercise. And it's a good bit trickier than it sounds to…
  • Yeah, I lost 4 lbs. per week the first two weeks. Evens out after that. But it gives you a nice mental boost to see that number change when you start trying to do things better.
  • Wow! That's awesome, and you look great! I can't get enough of these stories. Way to go!
  • Tacos are part of my regular menu. We've been using the Jeanie-o taco seasoned turkey. Couldn't be any easier. We do add some onion. Other than that, brown it and you're good to go. Just regular taco shells, shredded lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Two tacos is 266 calories. And they taste exactly like, well, tacos.
  • I completely agree with the spirit of your post, but one of the interesting things about the "Soylent" project is the cost. It's very inexpensive. Again, I'm not advocating it for weight loss or anything else. I just find the concept intriguing particular in applications in famine relief. The web site has tons of…
  • <---- Race car. Also like to restore old stereo speakers.
  • I'm not crazy about them plain (though they are a simple meal that you can make quickly) but I make turkey chili and put it on the turkey frank. That's darn yummy. You really only taste the chili. The hot dog is kind of for texture. So saving a mess of calories with the Ball Park frank is a good trade off.
  • I read about this a couple of weeks ago. (fyi, He calls it "Soylent" - no green). It is an interesting idea, and the goal of getting it under $5 a day could have huge implications for places where food is scarce. Cheap, easy to transport, and full of nutrients. I dunno. I could maybe try it for a bit, but would never…
  • It seems unlikely you could eat 700 - 1,200 calories and not lose weight. I agree with the folks who suggest you might be eating more than you realize. Also agree that you shouldn't try to lose 2 lbs. a week with so little to lose.
  • Sounds like you have already figured it out! Congrats on 28 lbs! Like you're probably doing, you just eat things that fit into your calorie goal and try to hit your macros. There's nothing magic about fruit and it's certainly not required for weight loss, especially if you have a reaction to it.
  • Man, I think this is the third thread today I've seen these mentioned. Going to have to try one. They seem really popular here and I haven't been getting to my protein goal regularly, so this might be a great help.
  • Weird. I thought this post was about me! My name is Ed and sugar is my weakness too. Congrats on all your progress!
  • I agree. Seems like it took about two weeks for me to get the craving under control. Now I can include a *little* something without going crazy. Still don't like to keep a lot of candy type stuff around the house, though.
  • It did seem to get easier when I started paying attention to getting at least close to my protein goal. I also agree with the people who suggest more, smaller meals. I don't tend to get hungry when I do that, and if I am, I know that I can have a little something. I don't have to wait because it's not time for lunch.
  • Agree with the others. Sounds like you're doing super and I hope you stick with it! Someone posted what a pound of fat really looks like. Hope someone has it. It was very eye opening about losing "only" a pound. And you've lost 8! It seems slow, but think where you'll be in just a few months.
  • That's how I got fat.
  • Okay, that's not a bad point. Having said that - MFP told my wife 1,200 lbs. too. Like it tells any woman who puts they want to lose a lot of weight fast. After about three days, she figured out that she couldn't do that on a regular basis and fiddled with the settings to come up with something more reasonable.
  • Absolutely. It's a tool. 2 lbs. a week is a lot. But especially for someone only trying to lose a few lbs. Like blaming a hammer for bashing you in the thumb.
  • Sounds awesome! I just sent a request.
  • lol I let it melt on my tongue too.
  • I eat one "snack size" Hershey's "Special Dark" every day. I ADDED it to my diet when I started trying to eat healthier. The stuff I read suggested that it was about the ideal amount of dark chocolate for the purported health benefits. 51 calories.
  • That's awesome! That's what I learned from working with a trainer. What I thought was hard isn't really pushing hard. Hard is uncomfortable, but feels awesome when you achieve something new. I kept asking my running friends how to improve my pace. I got great advice. But after learning to push hard, I realized a big part…
  • I'm not trying to eat "low carb", but lately been making an effort to at least TRY to hit my protein goal. Doing that and staying under my calorie goal sure makes for a fairly low carb diet, at least compared to how I used to eat.
  • It depends. If you're under on your calorie goal, you'll lose weight. If that's all you're worried about, that's all that matters. On some days I want to eat something junky. I know it's not great food but I want it. On those days, I just try to stay on target for calories. Most days I try to get kinda close to the other…
