I'm going to need a new goal
The scale this morning said 176. I don't update my "official" weight until I see it a few times. Still calling it 178 for now. But my "goal" weight is 175, so I'm getting really close. This is what I weighed 20 years ago, and I'm really happy about that. I'm going for a personal record in a half marathon on May 18 and I'm…

Before and during with pics
Can't say before and after. I still have a lot of work to do. But I'm starting to feel okay about how I look. Still some fat, but less every day.

Jawbone Up + running app = calorie error
I wear an Up band. I like it. It reminds me to move at work since it's always there, and I like to try to get my 10,000 steps. But then I go for a run and log it on Map My Run. That's all great, but MMR is linked to Up, and Up is linked to MFP. And it seems like Up isn't smart enough to figure out not to count all those…

Great info from Dr. Oz!
I know people knock him, but finally learned something really useful on Dr. Oz! Smoking alcohol? Who knew! You get a buzz with almost no calories. Hummmm. Looking into this.

Well that made my day!
I've been a little disappointed that people at work haven't said much about my weight loss. Well today, a very attractive woman said something like "I don't want to sound like I'm 'sexually harassing' you or anything, but you really do look great". Well shut my mouth. That made me feel awesome! I don't think she meant it…

Thoughts on fiber?
I looked at my fiber intake a couple of weeks ago and found I was no where near the MFP "goal". So I started putting a fiber supplement in my water. It's easy enough and I think I do notice a difference in the efficiency of my bodily functioning. But I was curious if anyone had any thoughts on how important it is. I have…

I'm down 20 lbs.
Got to 184 today. That's 20 down from my "official" weight when I joined the gym in Dec. Down 30 from a year ago. Not done, but was nice to see. That is all.

When do you use your body fat monitor?
I bought an Omron body fat monitor. Reading the book, it says not to use it for a couple of hours after you eat, or after a work out, or after a shower.... um. I'm running out of day here. The Omron book said first thing in the morning before you shower is a good time. But I've read elsewhere on the internet (so it must be…

A tale of calories burned
Just an anecdote. Might give some insight to why some people are conservative in counting calories burned. I had a great run this morning. 5 miles in 46:30. Map My Run says that burned 964 calories. MFP says 815. Runner's world calculator says 711. I always used to go with the estimate 100 calories a mile, assuming it was…

Gain muscle AND lose fat?
is it possible to do both at the same time? Or if you are eating at a calorie deficit, is it not possible to build muscle. I've seen conflicting information, but the ones who kinda sound most informed seem to think you have to be at a calorie surplus to build muscle. And when I think about that, it seems to make sense.…

Fad diet that really works!
I didn't realize I was doing it, but I've been doing "Dr. Manny's Freedom Diet" since the last week of Dec. It's working! And you guys said these things never work. http://www.foxnews.com/story/2007/01/17/dr-manny-freedom-diet-eat-less-exercise-more/ It's a great read, but the short version: Dr. Manny says you can lose…

Any other midnight snackers?
I don't sleep well. I often wake up at 2AM and always head to the fridge. I think I'm going to start prepping snacks so they're ready to go and I don't get too tempted. It seems like the most vulnerable eating I do. And it happens after I've finished my food log for the day, so I usually end up putting it in the next day's…

What veggies do you like to grill?
I'm trying to get more veggies in my diet. I bought some Asparagus because I always kind of liked it on the grill. Wondering what other veggies people like to grill and any prep and cooking tips you might have. Thanks!

What strange quality would they posses, and would Schroedinger's cat be alive, or dead?

Foreman grill breakfast potato
Hardly even counts as a "recipe" but it was darn good. I just cut up a potato, added a tiny bit of evoo and literally a "pinch" of sea salt. Cooked it on a George Foreman grill. Had to cook for a good while. Probably 12 minutes or so by the time it was done. But it was really good! BTW, George Foreman grill tip - there are…

If the person above you were a slice of cheese...
Would you eat it, put it on a burger, or make cheesecake?

Football fans, you hear about this?
I know you thought the season was over with the AFC and NFC Championship games. But I heard they're doing one more game where the two champions play each other! They're calling it "Super Bowl" and it's this Sunday. I guess they've been doing it for a while now and it's starting to get really popular. Some people have big…

Heya. Fat runner no more!
Hi All, I've posted in a few threads but thought I'd introduce myself. I've struggled with weight for a while. A few years ago I decided to do something about it and signed up for a half marathon. Amazingly, starting in December, I was able to finish the thing in May and I lost quite a bit of weight. I did another that…
