  • I don't display my medals or race bibs. They all get put in a freebie bag I got at some race with my collection of safety pins. I do however have the date, location and my time engraved on the back of my medals. A family member has the tool and does it for me. I write notes on the back of my bibs with a felt tipped pen.…
  • We cross posted! :) I said I was going to close the group on Friday night.
  • Icing your feet for about 10-15 minutes helped me when I first started running. This was recommended by my local running shop when I was fitted for shoes. Eventually my feet stopped hurting.
  • I wasn't aware of the how the CNS played such a big part in strength training until I started lifting and started learning more. Our bodies are pretty fascinating. Hopefully, you'll get cleared/ get a good answer for your water weight complication. Personally I tend to hold the initial water weight about 3-4 weeks after…
  • Speak to your Doctor to find out if you are cleared for lifting. Lifting has a lot to do with your central nervous system and forming new neural pathways as well as your muscles. I strongly recommend speaking to your Doctor before lifting again.
  • They are small minded and *kitten*. The small minded and *kitten* don't deserve one moment of your time. Every time I see some one biking or running outside I think 1 of 2 things. 1) hmm wish I was biking or running or 2) F it's really hot/cold, they are badass. Keep doing your thing!
  • Like most here I can not emphasis 2 things enough. 1) Invest in a good quality sports bra and yes be prepared to spend some $$ for it but it is so worth it and 2) yoga is for everyone! Modifications are made all the time and a good instructor should be mentioning them in class. If not trust yourself! One yoga teacher said…
  • Dijon is closer to brown mustard than yellow but it has more vinegar.
  • It gets better! It just takes time. My bench is lousy and I am working to improve it by following my program and doing accessory work for the back. The video below is very helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34XRmd3a8_0
  • I live in the Chicago suburbs and the cost of parking in the city is insane but can be avoided or reduced by using a discount parking app like Spothero or Parkwhiz. Personally I don't think the traffic is all that bad but maybe because I am used to the speed, the one ways the wacky diagonal streets etc. Also don't forget…
  • There are appliances that will carbonate whatever beverage you like. Soda stream and others so you can have your carbonated water again!
  • LOVE my Salomon Speedcross 3s! Quick, light, comfortable and great traction even on the road. Check out Ginger Runner's shoe reviews on YouTube. He is a 95% trail ultra runner and reviews a lot of shoes. However all the reviews in the world won't make a difference until you go into a store and get fitted properly for a…
  • I love r.e.i fleet capris for everything. Stay where they are supposed to (nice wide waistband and drawstring), never have a visibility problem, last for years and look good. Totally worth the cost.
  • Swimming if you have access to a pool perhaps. Seated yoga poses and gentle stretching. If all else fails rest up and watch your calories while you recover. You'll be back at it soon! Love this thread!
  • "It shrinks?!?! I don't know how you guys walk around with those things." I am curious about this too. I know some women who lift heavy that take ice baths the day after intense squats/deads. I remember all the photos and tweets from the last summer Olympics of the athletes in ice baths post competition. I thought the…
  • I'm a fat girl?, (partially formerly fat girl? half fat girl? half fit girl? ) ugh whatever, I'm a girl in the weights room and at my gym there are very few girls in there. I've only seen about 6-8 regulars not counting the bf visitors. When I first started in there guys would watch me out of the corner of their eyes but…
  • Yup. Are you pinching your shoulder blades together and resting the bar on the ridge made by your traps for high bar squats?
  • Thanks. I'll check them out!
  • Depends. I've taken a few TRX classes and some were just TRX which I would log as strength. Others were more circuit since they had conditioning drills built in and I would log only half my workout time as circuit training because the "burn" in the database was very high and I didn't want to eat back too much.
  • I use Goody brand hair ties. Black skinny ones for clean, everyday use. If I don't have one in my hair, it's on my wrist. I rinse these occasionally. Thicker, colorful ones for workouts. I can spot them easily, never confuse them with my regular band and throw them in the washing machine but not the dryer because that…
  • Yup there are too many variables. You and I could be climbing the same exact climb but if I weigh more than you I will be burning more calories to move my weight up the wall. You might go straight to the top while I may get tired halfway, hang for a minute and continue. Once again I would be burning more. In my inexpert…
  • Where are you seeing these reviews? I would love to read some but I didn't see any on the battlefrog site nor mud run guide.
  • If you are already getting a lot of cardio conditioning at work I would personally do a less than 15 minute cardio warmup and hit the weights 3x a week. Does the gym have free weights like barbells and dumbbells? If so I would use a beginner program like new rules of lifting for women, starting strength or strong curves.…
  • When I can finally do unassisted pull ups I'm going to reward myself with a class to learn aerial silks because those people are strong and their skill is so beautiful too.
  • I'm pretty sure it's a combination of chalk dust and the magic sprinkles from the gainz fairy.
  • Yes! Lifting helps retain muscle mass so you lose mostly fat. Lifting helps strengthen bones and will help you look great naked so you won't look like a smaller version of your current body when you reach your goal weight. Consider a program like Starting Strength, Strong Curves or New Rules of Lifting for Women. Also…
  • Go to your local bike shop and talk to the staff. They will ask you a whole bunch of questions about your planned bike usage and what you are willing to pay and then recommend 2-4 bikes to consider. The will adjust them to your height etc and usually let you test them out so you can make a good choice. Also it is very…
  • Cool nsv!
