I would try something more towards pasta for your pre-work out meal. I have noticed that I don't get nauseous if I eat something like that. Then after the work out I try to drink a gatorade and piece of fruit.

When I get a craving for something I either go for a walk or eat something healthy. For example, When I want something sweet, I'll eat a banana or an apple. Good luck with the weight loss!! :)
