The ones I know shop in the childrens/juniors department. They tell me that the clothes are cheaper, but the selection is frequently... odd.

We keep a running list, and when someone's going to the store - we get what's a good deal there. There's always cans of tuna, eggs, starch of some kind and some veggies kicking around. We can make something out of that. However, we only make normal meals a few times a week. The rest of the time we eat meals like "Korean…

Hunger is such a fascinating thing. I used to get that hormonal hunger - where I just -had- to eat, and there was no resisting it. Then I got sick, and needed antibiotics and it just... went away. Now I have days where I just don't bother eating breakfast or lunch - I have a cup of tea and go back to work. My husband and I…

The first part I agree with. The second part, not so much. I'm short (5'3) and female, with not a huge amount of muscle mass. I'm also currently sedentary due to a knee injury. I need ~2300 calories per day to maintain a weight that's 8lb over the top of my healthy BMI range. If I lifted 6-7 days a week, 2100 calories…

I'm in the "don't run if you're too fat" camp. However, that may because I have bilateral meniscus damage from trying. ;)

I still look like me. I don't see any significant difference with 55lb lost, in part because my mental image of me weighed about what I weigh now. Until I put on my old t-shirts, and they hang all baggy and funny. What gets me is having to come up with my weight. I weigh every morning without fail and log it in my…

For me, the defining habit for weight loss/maintenance is daily weighing and recording. On the other hand, if I log too much, I get disordered eating habits. So I don't ever log for more than about 2 weeks at a time. If I'm having a problem, I'll log for a bit, get it straightened out and go back to not logging. I'll…

If you're in recovery for an eating disorder, these are good things to talk to your therapist about. From what I understand - your experience is normal after long periods of low caloric intake and will stabilize. Right now you body may just need more nutrition (and possibly more fat) than it's used to getting.

I decided that 5lb was an amount of weight I was confident I could lose, so I took my current weight and subtracted 5lb. Repeat as desired.

Yeah, I can be uncomfortably full, and if I eat something sweet enough - not only do I find room for it, but I'm suddenly ravenous, and all I want is more sugar. I'm actually sitting here, full from dinner and thinking about excuses to go have a little dark chocolate. The Quest bars sound like a good answer to some of your…

Too bad. Apparently alcoholics metabolize alcohol sufficiently differently from non-alcoholics that they can lose weight on maintenance calories - if enough of those calories come from alcohol. http://caloriesproper.com/calories-schmalories-alcohol-and-chocolate/

I'm a numbers person. If that's not your kind of thing, feel free to just move on to the next post. :) Your 32 day average calories are really 2140 - so you aren't that far off your current goal. You only had 8 days where you went above your target by more than 100 calories. If we take those days out of the calculation,…

I'm about to bob out of maintenance and back into weight loss for another 5-10lb. Part of why I picked maintenance when I did is that I had health issues that kept me from my preferred exercise. You'll lose less muscle without exercise if you aren't also losing weight.

I don't worry if I want to have something nice on the weekend. However, my weekend "overs" aren't outrageous. I probably eat ~1000-1500 calories more over the weekend than I would on three weekdays. If I was having larger excursions over the weekend, I'd probably pare down my weekday eating or increase the exercise a bit…

For scale weight, I consider my range to be 5lb, with the bottom of the range being the low weight I stopped losing at. I usually pop up 1-2lb, then maintain in a ~3lb range. I also use trend weight (10 day weighted moving average), and I keep that within a pound. If either of those is getting near the edge, I adjust.…

My kid and spouse and I all have different nutritional needs. He eats low carb, high fat and spends 2 hours a day commuting by bicycle. She's mostly vegetarian, a black belt candidate (8 hours of martial arts this week) and an active swimmer - most of her foods are calorically dense. I have a defective digestive system,…

If your last meal of the day needs to end at 1:30am, then your 8 hour eating window would start around 5:30pm. It looks like that's just about time for your first break at work. So you don't eat before work. Eat on both your breaks, eat when you get home. Stop eating when your roommates go to bed. I feel like I"m missing a…

The internet is not good for diagnoses. However, most people find that fiber and water help their bowels. You can increase dietary fiber or add a fiber supplement. Increase it slowly - a few grams per day at a time, with increases about weekly. Some people react badly to fiber, so clearly don't continue if it makes you…

If you use 2-3 grams of butter per pancake, 5 pancakes is about a tablespoon (14g) of butter. So, either you're using way more oil than you did butter or there's a measurement issue.

I drink multiple smoothies a day right now. It's not ideal, but it works. There are some issues, though. It's really easy for smoothies to turn into calorie/sugar-bombs. Protein powder, frozen fruit, greek yogurt and pudding mix (really? What does it do for your smoothie?) sounds pretty calorie-dense, but if you're logging…

Note, I'm re-arranging things in this post, because it lets me respond more coherently. Also note - I know I should just walk away, but some days I can't resist the urge to educate either. I'm really only answering because you say that your goal is to educate and help people with regards to their health and human…

DRI uses EER (Estimated Energy Requirement) to calculate calories. It isn't based on BMR+burn. The equations are different, but they do include exercise. There's a wiki article here with the formulas and some of the background - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_of_Medicine_Equation - but none of the calculation links…

See the dead donkeys above. Having spent 10 minutes with a list of weights, trying to get MFP to update the calories for the recipe accurately? It's not worth my time. Especially if the issue isn't that I used a different amount of a given vegetable, but that I substituted one ingredient for another? Or changed the number…

Well, that's how you got 1200 calories. If your TDEE is 2057, you need to eat fewer than 1200 calories per day to lose 2lb per week. (14399 per week TDEE - 7000 calorie per week deficit = 7399 weekly calories or 1057 calories per day) Since 1200 is the standard floor for intake, that's what they recommend. Since TDEE…

I lost 50lb in about 5 months, not completely intentionally. At that speed, you're at risk for gallbladder problems, especially if you used a low fat diet to lose weight. I had some gallbladder twinges, but nothing that was actionable. We're keeping an eye on it, but now that I've managed to slow my weight loss, it's less…

I'm making pasta primavera tonight. There are 18 ingredients in the recipe, 11 of which vary slightly in weight every time I make it, and one of which is home-made chicken demi glace, which isn't an exactly reproducible product. The cooked pasta weight is slightly different each time, and the sauce reduces by a different…

I log what seems material. Usually mayo, not mustard. I estimate salad dressing. There isn't much ketchup in my life, so I don't worry about it. There's more sriracha, but I don't track that either. There's naturally a lot of rounding and estimation in logging both intake and exercise, so I try not to fool myself into…
