I had a problem with the area right under the first knuckle of my right big toe. I had been increasing mileage and doing a lot of calf extensions (going up on my toes). All of a sudden: extreme pain. It kept me out for three days of running, but in the end, the answer was a lot of stretching, better arch support (I'm in my…

Some far, my only wing-it plan is to get it done before everyone wakes up. :/ lol ... I'll keep you posted.

Thx all! When I made the choice to do this, I factored in all the run time but hadn't counted on the post-run exhaustion. I hope you're right that it is an adjustment period. I think i ought to pay closer attention to food choices, too. The time management suggestion is certainly fair! I'm pretty accustomed to managing…

Finally read this, Stan! So helpful. Thank you for sharing it.

14 (+.25 yesterday, lol)! Eeek (again)!

Can't do simple math and run at the same time. :/ but when I'm done, this should be my longest running ever. Eeek!

rest day ... boo hoo.

How does your friend feel about it?
-
Yes and if you tried to click on the like number to see who liked a post, you get a rude message about not being able to like your own post, lol. Guilt, embarrassment... but I wasn't being vain and self-promoting, I promise!! ;)

Right! And I guess I'd also consult someone about liability. I know the little disclaimer that we all sign every time doesn't protect anyone from a civil suit if something goes awry, so I guess I'd ask around to others who have put races on. I bet someone else on here knows about that.

I would create a little committee and delegate well. Put someone enthusiastic, well-connected, well-liked in the community, and gracious to handle gathering in-kind donations for race food, awards, and give-aways, if you choose to do that. Definitely connect with other leaders in the running community - or, if not, then…

Ran .20 intervals to 7.5 (for 4.5 miles) on the TM - felt good that I did it, because the half mile warm up was brutal. Feeling a twinge here and there which I'm working out, but didn't do extra distance for fear of injury as I increase my miles. I chose .20 which is psychologically much more manageable on the TM than .25.…

Just when I think I'm totally bada$$ for running at 5 a.m., someone comes along and squishes my fabulousness. ;) jk - wtg for getting it in!
-
Other than the overly friendly (read: creepy) guy who wanted to talk about Bridezilla and asked where I live this morning at 5 a.m., it was an awesome 5-miler. Five in the morning is too early for creepy.

I'm liking the Like button. What will we do with all the time we save?!

Rain rain go away - Come again another day! Who knew? A haiku!

Only four TM miles this morning - need to wake up earlier to successfully balance responsibilities to family and increase miles!

Monday 3.1 in Colonial Williamsburg - pretty day!

@kristinegift says eat more cheese: check! Right on!! ;) Thx for the recommendation to the LD runners group - I didn't know there was one!

I just decided to train for my *first* marathon! So 'cited! I'll be running the Richmond marathon ("the friendliest marathon") in November!
-
@Elise4270 Yes - my understanding (from the ortho doc who chastised me) is that it's a combination of over-training, under-eating, and anemia. Easy to do for a distance runner!

Thanks @WhatMeRunning ! If anyone has any advice about long runs and menstrual cycle (i.e., related injury prevention - avoiding female athlete triad), feel free to inbox me about how you handle it. I suffered a fracture to the femoral head during that perfect storm - would prefer to avoid that! :)

Been out of pocket for a few days. I decided on the plane to Vegas that I am going to train for my first marathon this year. The marathon is in Richmond, Virginia, in November ("the friendliest marathon"), and I am running about 25 miles a week currently, with 12 being my longest. I would love your insight. Could you share…

I get the jumpies. Leaving on a jet plane soon - Hope a short run helps!

I was adopted back it was all a bit secret. I only know that my biological mother liked to sew. In 1971. What a surprise, lol. ;) I don't know a soul from my blood family.

Okay so (1) my post makes no sense and (2) there needs to an edit feature longer than an hour lol ... MFP changed the (very tame) word I chose to kitten. How absolutely odd!
