  • Yep. Your comments are helpful. Thanks to all of you. Once, years ago, I got emails from someone helping me get organized - a little tip every day - and, while ultimately annoying, I did get a little nudge in the mornings. Maybe I'm just going through a low point, motivation-wise. Probably could stand to renew my goals.…
  • Currently afraid of the shower. I've given birth to three babies, but something about a shower when you forgot body glide for your long, summer-weather run is the absolute worst. Le sigh ...
  • Was supposed to be a long, slow run today. Despite advice, I couldn't stand to leave the app at home but I referred to it only for distance. Next time I will use a different strategy. I tried to imagine myself chatting and could have talked throughout the 10-mile run, but in the end, my pace was still faster than I think…
  • I rounded the bend in the midst of a high energy burst of downhill energy and almost ran smack into these guys on the trail ... they moved just a few steps off the trail and turned to check me out. I said hello and then decided it was best that I turn around and quietly head back in the other direction, lol! #virginia…
  • Had to resort to circle-running this morning. It amuses me that I feel compelled to smile and say hello to fellow runners, even if they're circling in the other direction and I've said hello three times already and I'll see them again in a couple minutes. Friendly runner types.
  • You are wonderful. I will work on this Thursday night. I was hoping there would be others interested in this particular challenge. LOL ... best that it's just me - I will do it. People (you) are watching. My daughter will watch me try something new because it's healthy. Good stuff. Thank you.
  • Love this idea. I've tried but not meaningfully ... hadn't allow this to be a valid way to "compete" with myself lol ... i'll have to give it a workout title.
  • Haha ... never me! I get angsty when I read about people getting offended with each other on these forums ... seems like it happens a lot! But not me ... xo Sry for the elevated heart rate lol!!
  • They were small, so that wasn't usually the problem ... but certainly I would have spoken to them about the body's need to recover.
  • I never have so maybe I could look into it. It so ironic that slowing down speeds you up ... can't get my head around it (especially when I'm in the middle of a run) ... "this is my moment!" ruins the planned slow run every single time. :(
  • Thank you - yes, sorry I wasn't clear. I understood what she meant. I've coached running, and I'm funny about not cheating yourself - i.e., not cutting the corners, etc. LOL ... so, the idea that by not slowing down I am only cheating myself bothers me immensely. All on the same page! I appreciate your additional…
  • Hmmm ... I don't cheat. This was an effective comment lol ...
  • I'm the absolute worst. I went grocery shopping after working all day and ended up with five kinds of cheese in my fridge - and ate Eggo waffles for dinner. I did think about buying a fig somewhere around the cereal, but (1) I couldn't remember the name of the new food I was going to try, and (2) I have no idea…
  • Happy Monday, peeps! Ran race pace intervals on the 'mill today ... a 5K pace of 8:49 seems much harder to maintain (for 3.1 miles straight) on the TM than on the roads.
  • Interesting analogy. Thanks for all of your insight. Can't help but think if I would leave the music and the app at home for a few trail runs, it would be rejuvenating.
  • okay - I'm all about snacking, so I will try the fig and bran bars ... my only experience with figs is Fig Newtons in sandwich baggies when I was about ten, so I could probably stand to update my palate. :) I graze all day ... and by the time I'm home, we're just scavenging the kitchen for an "acceptable" variety of foods…
  • This is me. I'm reading a book about nutrition to reduce migraines. Great book - and best read in bed after dinner, which involved melted cheese, and during the inhalation of my nightly chocolate truffle. ETA: @Elise4270 I would be up to trying a new recipe once a week. I am absolutely stuck in a rut with food and don't…
  • I have nothing to add but need to be in this group. Yesterday's diary is mostly beer and cheese ... :( I look forward to reading through this post for ideas. xo
  • Find alternate goals than weight loss. I choose fitness (running) goals, because that's my thing - but find your thing and then choose small, attainable goals that keep you interested. Someone above said that looking at weight loss as a goal gets boring - always the same - so mix it up! And also ... as others have said…
  • I'm coming late to the party ... second half of September goal: 45 Nice to be back!
  • As it turns out, if you're a social drinker, getting older helps. :/ Saturday night, and I was in bed before 9 p.m. Not the strategy I would prefer.
  • ... just stuck my head into this string out of shy curiosity ... I don't know if I would succeed at this but I know it would be a great thing for me. Perhaps I will see if there's a similar challenge in October (though, like many of you, there would be days when I know I will be drinking - Foo Fighters, for instance, lol).…
  • I have to say that I do weigh myself almost every day so that I am aware of my cycle-related weight fluctuations. I don't know whether that habit will do me any good as I move into peri-menopause (and my cycle goes wonky), but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. It's nice to know that when I'm five pounds…
  • The 40s are my healthiest decade yet ... I'm a runner back on MFP for motivation mostly to keep track of my protein intake and help with food (and beer lol) -related discipline generally. Trying not to undo what I do every day as my metabolism starts to slow down. Feel free to add me!
  • How about printing your workout reports weekly and making goals for increasing/improving them ... maybe try a new exercise once every two weeks and track those. I agree that MFP does definitely put the focus on what is quantitative AND that the number on the scale is not what's important. There are challenge groups out…
  • Anemia is a common issue for me as well. I actually crashed and burned in life generally but also while training for a full marathon about two years ago and I was (finally!) diagnosed with B12 deficiency. So, now - much stronger with more energy - and I did run a marathon. Miserable experience, lol, but I did it!! :) I'm…
  • I'm sorry for your loss - running is therapeutic in so many ways. I agree. Please connect with me on MFP when you have time and we can encourage each other!
  • Thanks, y'all. I haven't been to the doc yet - you're right. I put this in the nagging pain column and try to save doc calls for big and word stuff, like that deep bruising and skin infection after the race - that was definitely big and weird. But you're right that the back is nothing to ignore. I've decided to give it the…
  • I only carry my phone for outside runs (Mapmyrun), and depending on how focused I am on pace, I'll either carry it for easy access or put it in my running belt. For indoor runs and other workouts, I leave my phone in my gym bag and use a teeny tiny ipod shuffle (the old kind) for music - I hope it never dies.
