Trail race went well. I did it in 1:18. I don't know my position yet. Overall it was a good performance didn't push it since I didn't know the course and what kind of uphill to expect.
Stay hydrated!

Disappointed, I had to cancel my Jimmy Fund walk today. My dad is dealing with stomach issues. Thankfully it's not anything too serious.0
-
Was supposed to be a long, slow run today. Despite advice, I couldn't stand to leave the app at home but I referred to it only for distance. Next time I will use a different strategy. I tried to imagine myself chatting and could have talked throughout the 10-mile run, but in the end, my pace was still faster than I think it should have been.
Orrrrrr maybe I'm not pushing hard enough on my short runs.

13 slow and easy miles with the running group this morning. I got to use my new fancy running watch for the first time. My mom gave me a TomTom Spark 3 yesterday as an early birthday present. It was so nice running without having to mess with my phone. The GPS on my phone gets so buggy on long runs.
Oh, here is a warning just in case you were not aware. Stopping at the doughnut shop on the way back from a long run can be dangerous . I officially bought all the things.
148.5/175 (September goal miles)
Upcoming Races:
10/28 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
12/10 = BCS Marathon
1/6/18 = River Road Run Half Marathon11 -
I haven't had a chance to check in here in almost 2 weeks - I am so far behind I am not sure I can get caught up before the end of the month I have been so busy with work and wedding stuff. I really never thought the last 2 weeks would end up as the perfect storm of work being OMG busy and all of the wedding things hitting to get done. I really should heave taken it all off as vacation! I did manage to fit in some running, had to, it was the only thing helping me keep my sanity! I am heading to Seattle today and optimistically taking running gear with me. I am hoping to at least get a couple of runs in before the chaos starts in earnest on Wednesday I am not taking a PC (work or otherwise) with me but will have my iPad so hopefully I can go back and catch up on how everyone is doing.

No goal for me this month, alas. This past week was just too hot. I should have gone out myself at dawn then walked while my daughter biked, but was persuaded to wait for her instead. Ten minutes in, she declared herself done and asked me to turn around at the mile bridge.
On the plus side, I saw a cute little green snake poking his head out of the half-mile bridge.

Currently afraid of the shower. I've given birth to three babies, but something about a shower when you forgot body glide for your long, summer-weather run is the absolute worst. Le sigh ...6

@juliet3455 thank you so much you made me cry. I’ve been a single mom to Skip since I adopted her at a year old and it’s not always easy being a single parent, but it’s very rewarding.
@dbhawkins1010 I love the “environmental” name! We will do a bunch a track too. Please post some of your daughter!
Skip had a great meet yesterday, she ran in the “championship” division running a 22:37 finishing 42 I think. Second meet in the row she looked so strong the whole race. I think the electrolyte water might have been the secret.
Busy day I’ll have to catch up later.
My legs were so tired from yesterday, I worked the concession stand at the little kids football games for 5 hours, then off to the meet and ran/walk around the course from 3 to 9:30. We had about an hour of so rain/lightening delay. Went out too late was it was 80 but just did 2 miles just to get them moving.

9/1 - Rest day
9/2 - 13.18 miles. Very slow, mostly walking. Really struggled with low BG throughout entire run. Depleted electrolytes and had cramping towards end and afterwards.
9/3 - Rest
9/4 - Cross train - hiked 10 miles.
9/5 - Unplanned rest day - seems like I might have sprained left ankle.
9/6 - 6.34 miles (plan was for 8, but trying to be easy on ankle ahead of HM on 9/9)
9/7 - Unplanned rest - trying to rest ankle for HM and spare electrolytes
9/8 - Rest
9/9 - 12.74 Wabash Trace HM 2:02:08 (we all took a wrong turn shortly after start, causing the short distance)
9/10 - Rest
9/11 - Rest
9/12 - 5 miles treadmill intervals
9/13 - 8.04 miles
9/14 - 5 miles treadmill, low BG issues and generally not good
9/15 - Rest
9/16A - 9.12 miles fasting, with electrolytes and yohimbine. Good BG's, indicating yohimbine is working to release stubborn fat, but slow run. Plan was for 18 miles today. Stopped for rain and because pace was so slow.
9/16B - 5.01 miles - did not get to 18 today, but stopped because it was dark and I was worn out
9/17 - Rest
9/18 - Rest
9/19 - 5.0 miles treadmill before weight lifting
9/20 - Unplanned rest day. BG's high in the afternoon and I'm exhausted so going to bed early.
9/21 - 5.0 miles treadmill before weight lifting
9/22 - Rest
9/23 - Unplanned rest (BG Issues)
9/24 - 18.01 miles; everything went really well until about mile 12 when I started to feel muscle pains of electrolyte depletion. Swung by home and got 2 electrolyte tablets, but it wasn't enough. Walked most of the last 2 miles.
I'm so far behind that I'm not going to reach goal
Upcoming Races:
9/9/17 - Wabash Trace HM
10/21/17 - Oregon Trail Run HM1 -
Ugh. It is late September, and temp is over 90 with a 65 dew point. I need to do a good long run today, but hard to convince myself. If....err WHEN... I do get out, I will ignore pace, zones, and such. I will just focus on left, right, left, right, for a long time. No way I can do anything else in these conditions.

Hello everyone! Hope you all are having a fantastic weekend. I was MIA for some time and here is a quick report: very busy week at work with students taking their first tests, traveling to my grandma for her 95th Birthday (!!!), and my favorite local half marathon this morning! Lot's of fun events going on in my life.
September goal: 135 miles
Total: 101 miles
Fair warning: a rather long report about my race below.
This is my second time running Bachmans Valley Half Marathon. I did not beat my PR from 2014 (1hour 50 minutes), when I was in the best shape of my life (albeit pregnant), but that's ok. I still finished under 2 hours and had a great time!
The race is located in Westminster, MD, and is limited to about 300 runners or so. The course is absolutely beautiful - it is a 2 loop course around some farms with very little traffic, beautiful scenery and stunning views of the countryside. The registration fee is ridiculously low, under $20. All food, drinks, awards, and medals are donated by small local businesses and farms, but the organizers are extremely knowledgeable and the race goes very smoothly. So that't the main reason I love this race so much.
I took this picture as I was warming up before the race.
Some of the scenery
How great is this? This is mile 3 and you don't have 58 people around you
Best reward ever - seeing my baby at the finish line. She did "run" this race with me back in 2014, I just didn't know about it at the time.
I did finish that donut Still not a big fan of donuts, but I felt terrible wasting it after Anya took 2 bites and decided she was done with it.
Close up look at the medal, which is handcrafted by a local pottery business. It might be my favorite medal so far!
Next race - October 24th, Grey-and-Blue Half Marathon in Gettysburg. Maybe I'll set a new PR then.
Thanks for reading!

I didn't sleep well last night so I had a hard time getting up and getting going this morning. I was hoping to get out earlier when it was still in the 70's but it was already 80 by the time I headed out for my long run. I was kind of expecting it to suck as I just wasn't feeling it today. Surprisingly I had a really nice run. It was partly cloudy so there were several times that it was shady and there was a nice breeze.
I am trying to decide if I am going to run in a local 10k on Saturday. I have never run in a 10k race, but they don't give any awards, just 1st place. And there is no official time, which is what I really want. Last time I ran a race that this person organized the only time I had was from Strava. I wish I could find a better 10k that was close by. There is a 5k about 30 miles away on the 3rd. I may just run that one.
So sorry about your Dad @cburke8909 . I hope he feels better soon.
@amymoreorless There is a new donut shop opening up Oct 2, 3 blocks from my house. That is really goimg to be difficult on my long rumrun days.

@Runningmischka Great pictures! Sounds like a nice little race and has a cool medal. Maybe in decade or so that baby can run the race with you again1 -
Feeling lazy today. Alarm didn't go off and it was too late for my run by the time I woke up. Guess I might have need the rest, but still feel lazy because of it. Met mom and brother along with me wife and kiddo for Bloody Mary before they headed back south again. it was great seeing them and yesterday was great.
Hope everyone is having a runderful day!0 -

Race report: Today wound up being the nicest day we've had all week what with 3 straight days of rain earlier in the week that devolved into slushy snow at various points. Race start was 9 AM and I guess it was around 10C? I was cold standing around but fine while I was running.
The trail itself was lovely for the first bit. Basically right along the river's edge below orange and yellow-leaves trees. Really pretty. However, it was pretty muddy in spots due to the rain earlier in the week and it was also very steep ups and downs. So I was feeling that pretty early as there are basically no hills around my house where I normally run.
Then there was the part that was a real bummer. There were about 5 of us slower folk near the end of the pack who basically missed the turnaround, which wasn't marked in any way whatsoever. We all kind of stopped, chatted a moment, and turned back around. Confirmed after the race that we had overshot by about 500m.
The last 2.5km of the race were along a different route that was basically straight up a (paved with switchbacks) cliff and then back down again. Also, there was another race along that stretch headed in the opposite direction on the same sidewalk, plus all the 5K walkers from our race. Very crowded! Many small dogs (who also got finisher medals...).
In the end I finished in 1:24:44 for 11.1km/10km and I wasn't the last 10k finisher, but I'm still annoyed about the lack of markings.
Upcoming Races:

@sarahthes I am sorry for the lack of markings... I have been in that boat before... me and friend were at the very back of the pack... and they were picking up the course in front of us-( on a military base none the less, so clearly no consequences for getting lost, right?) and finally someone circled back because they forgot something, and they figured out we were still running... so then the dude on the bike picking up the course road circles around us for like the last 3/10K... made for a good story, but took a lot of the fun out of it. But, I love your picture, you look incredibly proud!!! Way to go!!!2
-
Mostly non runner update....but I'm excited enough it's getting posted even if it's not running related... trainer day at gym... led to squats -5@115, bench 5@105, and deadlifts 5@180!!!
