Great story!

I have successfully maintained my goal weight for a couple of months now. I work with weekly and not daily calorie goals. If I want to eat more one day then I will make up for it one of the next days. I usually incorporate one or two days a week where I eat very low calorie diets. I also exercise a lot and I log everything.

A brisk walk a day for about an hour should take care of the extra calories. Best of luck Stef.

Thanks for all your input and reassuring!

I am less worried about time than about injuries. Information re whether running is actually good or bad for your joints/ health differ greatly. That's why I would love to hear from long time runners whether their injuries gotten worse over the years.

Turkey burger...with or without the bread?

I got used to eating tons of veggies with either a chicken breast or some fish. It is unbelievable how little calories a whole broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower...have. You can stuff yourself and easily stay under 200 calories.mit took me some time to get used to it, but now I have two really low calories…

Welcome! Have a good night sleep before the race. Eat something in the morning, but not too close to the race. Use the toilet...run in proper shoes, but not brand new ones. Don't train hard the last days before the race. Smile for the cameras and greet bystanders. Say thank you to all the volunteers, including police!…

Usually you do not go up from 5k to 10k in one go, but I would try and run 7.5k first and see how it goes. If it is not about winning, but purely about finishing than you should be fine. Just keep on training and make sure you put rest days in. If something starts hurting I would back off. Listen to your body. Best of luck…

Born to Run - superb!

As far as I know you cannot target areas. The fat comes off where it wants to and reveals the muscle underneath if there is any. Running burns tons of calories. Alternatively inline skating is quite demanding as well or biking which not only is cardio but also trains your muscles.
-
I do regularly twice a day workouts. When it comes to running though 2x 5k is NOT the same as once 10k.

I signed up for a couple of races this year, including to half marathons and my first full one in September. Goal is to survive the full with a smile on my face.

Good luck to all of you!

I go by weekly goals. If I go over one day, I make up for it one of the next. Works for me.

Because intermittent fasting gives your body breaks from having to digest food and time to "repair" itself. Apparently, it can be very healthy and some people very successfully follow this life style. I restrict fasting periods to two max three days a week. You quite automatically consume less calories. It helps me to…

I replaced weightloss goals with fitness goals. A year ago I was literally lying on my sofa contemplating to get a motorized (!) scooter so that I did not have to walk my dogs... Now I am training for a full marathon, after having completed a couple of 10Ks and halfs. Food evaluation and proper nutrition became part of my…

I bought a Blendtec last year and would consider it one of the best investments I did in my whole life! There is so much you can do with it besides smoothies. From ice cream, hummus, almond butter...to facial creams. I love it!

Yes for Polar watches you need access to a computer for updates, downloading sport profiles and more. You can just get the Polar H7 heart rate strap and download the free Polar Beat app, which works great and for that you do not need a computer. On a general note: Fitbits are great for step based activities. Best for…

I use a a Polar heart rate monitor with a Polar multisportswatch and always go by its numbers. The machine numbers are consistently higher than my heart rate monitor. It is important that you put your stats correctly into your machine/watch such as age, weight and gender. In general I would go with the lower number, just…

Congrats!!! Superb achievement!

I do a mix. Sometimes I take my dogs running and most times I walk them. If they have to run with me there is no time for them to explore and sniff around, something that is important for them. My late father used to say, walking the dog is like reading the newspaper for us. They want to check out what is going on, who has…

I agree on having to find my rhythm and the first two miles being tougher, but what really helps me is to warm up before the race starts and not doing this on the first two miles. I try and warm up by very slowly jogging back and forth and by lunges. Best of luck! Stef.

Same here. It hurts too much to get back into running after walking. I might vary my speed but never walk.

Thanks!

Bummer, but sounds like the right decision! Great on you tgat you listened to your body.

Depends entirely on distance and heat. If I run 10K - 15K and it is not too hot, I do not carry anything. For a half marathon I have a water waist belt (you get them in running shops, outdoor shops...). Sometimes instead of a water belt I carry a handheld bottle with elastic grip band, but I prefer not to have to hold a…

I have been in maintenance for a couple of months now. I go by weekly calorie goals and I log everything on MFP. If I over indulge one day I am more careful the next, so that over the course of a week I stay at or under my weekly calorie allowance. If I am more than 2 lbs up I throw a real low calorie day in to get back…

Hehe...same here. Need reading glasses, but I can just about make out the numbers. So another week? I have a 10K in a week and two halfs in the next two months. Best of luck! Stef.
