  • I like the change of seasons here, especially as 'winter' doesn't get too 'wintery' here. Plenty of sunshine, snow once every 10 years or so, temperatures rarely below 0° and mostly around 10°. I like being able to cook different things, as the French are really into local, and therefore seasonal, fruit and vegetables. I…

  • Freggies: like them, eat them, but like @LazyBlondeChef, I find the preparation tedious - cleaning, scraping, peeling, chopping - and the quantities are often too much, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, a whole lettuce. I buy small quantities or individual carrots, turnips, parsnips, peppers, courgettes, aubergines. I keep…

  • Today's walk took me through the old town, almost empty on a Sunday ... Yes, this picture was taken in the summer, but the sky is still blue, the sun still shines, even though the temperature doesn't go above 18° @BMcC9

  • I don't really have a plan, I just try and stick to the UAC rules. My primary goal at the moment is not so much losing weight, although I try not to put any on, it's to stick to the structure this challenge gives to my daily life. My life can be quite chaotic, with an Alzheimer's patient, irregular work, necessitating…

  • @seilidhe Picture to treasure! Wonderful!
  • 30th October 3 x Yes. Ate very little as my tummy was not feeling wonderful, but I walked for maybe an hour. I was examining in Toulouse, but a lot of the candidates had dropped out, so I had time to go and see my partner's son, who is stationed there for the next two years and has a great apartment bang in the centre of…

  • Many of you know that I struggle with a partner who has Alzheimer's disease. His problems and his stubborn behaviour often trigger me into irritation, depression, comfort eating and drinking. I try and control it, have a supportive therapist and network, but it's not always easy. He's had a lot of problems recently, one of…

  • 16th October Wrote a long post explaining why I had had a few Missed Days, but it disappears. Will try again soon.
  • @SummerSkier I found this website many years ago, when it was still just a Calorie Counter, or something, which was the only thing I needed, an easy way to work out how many calories were in certain foods. It then became MFP. I would still use it, if only for the calorie counting part. I've been doing the UAC on and off…
  • 12th October Declaring Pass Day #2. Had a lovely museum visit and lunch in Nimes with my very oldest Dutch friends, on holiday down here in the South of France. Unless I go for a walk of more than an hour and a half now, that's it, I am way over calories.

  • @mshawski That's a great photo! The kind you should enlarge, print, and put on your desk!
  • @snowshoe072 Gorgeous pics! We have similar unused railway tracks down here in Southern France and they make for great walking trails, flat! I've sold the car, long story, so it's now difficult to get to these trails, but I used to seek them out.
  • 9th October Pass Day #1. Went over calories by almost 300, as I treated myself to two croissants for breakfast and a panna cotta after my salad lunch. I did walk for 45 minutes and logged everything.

  • @mshawski Sounds intriguing. We've got a fantastic Art & Craft shop nearby, so will investigate. Also thinking of those Zen colouring in pictures for adults, and I have a jigsaw puzzle that I have not even opened ...
  • OK, no more excuses. If life deals me a bad hand, so be it.
  • @biketheworld Thank you! I am in touch with our local Alzheimer's Association, who try their best, but are a bit useless. Most people caring for Alzheimer's patients are sons or daughters, which is quite a different ballgame. I've met one woman whose husband has Alzheimer's, but who is the typical devoted carer, which I am…
