I think it depends a bit on how intense you're exercising. If you're burning 500 calories at the gym, in think you have to eat some or all of that to replenish your body. If you went for a 30 min walk, I wouldn't worry about it.

If I'm working out before 7am, I just have an espresso (on the nespresso machine) and maybe few bites of a banana, anything more than that is too much. If it's later than that, I'll have a bit of yogurt/gronola or small omelette. I try to eat that at least 1 hr before workout.

Same here and glad I found others on the same boat. It has been extremely difficult for me. Would like to hear from others if you succeeded.

Very true and I certainly don't expect to crush each workout but the variation in performance seem pretty huge. No detectable pattern on rest between good/bad workouts. Had Sunday/Monday off after hard workouts on Friday/Saturday for example and felt well rested but today's run was a bad one. Maybe it is all in my head :-)

Also I do most of my exercise early in the morning (around 6am) so I don't eat beforehand. I wonder if that's a contributing factor.

Sorry, new to the site.. not sure what are relevant stats but 39yo,140lb, 5'7''.. Calorie consumption around 1400 plus eat back most of exercise calories.. . Diet vegetarian with some fish included. Do drink 1-2 glasses a wine a day Weight loss not a huge part of my goal but losing 5-10 lbs would be a nice bonus to get me…
