Your arms aren't getting bigger. If you are measuring yourself after a workout your musles are full of blood. It is similiar to weighing yourself after a meal.

Your gym should require people to return their weights. I mean they are there to work out so why skipm on burning an extra cal or 2 by putting your plates back. This is a good post. If you are lifting light weights for 20 reps you are wasting your time. Lift as heavy as you can for 2 months and come back and tell us how your body has changed.

You are getting some bad answers. Strength training for an hour doesn't burn as many calories as running for an hour unless you are circuit training with no rest between sets and exercises. I would wager its just sore abs, and that what you are calling swollen is just hypertrophy. Abs should be back to normal in 3 days.

School should be included in your daily activity level. It isn't strenous unless you are doing a practiculm that requires you to be on your feet and mobile. If you are taking an activities class such as dance, volleyball, etc I would count that as well. If you break a sweat while thinking something is seriously wrong.

I did day one. I am fine with the strength and ab moves, but have trouble with the cardio. I did every other cardio exercise and did 3 out of 4 of them at the end. In top tier running and trail shoes the cushioning will be about the same. Running shoes would be lighter, more breatheable, and will not hold up as well. Trail shoes will be heavier and more durable. Weight really shouldn't be a concern, unless you are an elite athlete. Really up to you.

Yes genetics play a huge role. In my late 20's I had ripped abs and love handles. Just how my body is put together. I am trying to lose weight but I am also doing a lot of lat work to help counter the genes.

TO add to this, if you look at the labels on multi-vitamins it will have 200% of some vitamins, 100% of some, 10% of some, etc... and this doesn;t include what you eat. I am a guy and I do it. I try to do it 3 times a week in the mornings to get some cardio in. It is tough, but if you stick with it you will get there.
