I think I started out logging it as cardio, then I got a heart rate monitor and logged the calories from that. Would definitely recommend a HRM if you don't have one. Not that expensive (around $60) and very motivational.

Maybe you should consider the Targeted Ketogenic Diet. I had good success with it when I was doing P90X. It is no different than any other low carb diet except that you take in high glycemic index carbs 20 to 30 minutes before your workout. I do a free day each week usually on Saturdays. I still log my calories which keeps the free day from turning into a binge day. There is a big difference!

A couple of rolls of smarties. Dextrose goes straight to the bloodstream to fuel your workout.

Another vote for Jillian Michaels. I am just completing Body Revolution with great results. All workouts are 30-35 minutes.

I am just finishing up Week 13 and I never opened Jillian's nutrition guide. I just used the MFP diary to track my calories and I have lost over 20 pounds. It can be done without following her plan.
