I think this is a fair question, and will attempt an answer. We don't really have visibility into what heaven will be like; we just have hints and echoes. We can't imagine it or understand it in our present condition except darkly. My understanding that humans are made for communion with God in heaven. Once we have entered…

I have adult children. I have raised them, loved them, and provided for them. But I don't force them to love me, don't make them text me, don't force them to visit me. They do these things out of love for me. That's their choice. If they reject me, if they refuse to talk to me or love me, I will still love them. But they…

Hugs back at you, @ESPRESSO_OR_ELSE. I was in a similar situation. Part of my motivation to get healthy was my desire to not have adult-onset diabetes for decades, like my mother and her parents, or continuing cardiac and digestive issues like my father. Neither of my parents were around for my oldest son's high school…

Drink what you like and count the calories. Life's too short to drink bad beer.

I concern myself with how my dietary and exercise plans affect my wife and children. I don't take over our living room for an hour every day so I can exercise, and I don't make special demands on our family dinners so that I can only eat what I want. I made my goals, and developed strategies around my family and lifestyle…

@hroderick, your comment made me curious, so I did a little digging. We used to get Grade B maple syrup all the time - it is more robust and richer than Grade A. Apparently maple syrup grading has changed in the last couple of years, so all maple syrup sold for eating is now a variety of "Grade A". Here's an article about…

I used to eat PB2 frequently until I got bored with it. I'd often just mix it with water and eat it straight. Alternately, I'd put it on toast, sometimes along with jam or jelly. I also mixed it with oatmeal.

I'm somewhat familiar with this, as I have seen some marketing materials from another site that I frequent. Here are the kinds of things they advertise: To which I say:

I don' t think I eat any clean meals under most definitions of "clean".

The fear of running out of coffee in the morning is part of the reason why I fill the grinder every evening as part of my routine. I'll happily run to the store in the evening to feed my addiction.

My wife lost a substantial amount of weight before I met her, and has more or less maintained her weight by following a loose set of self-imposed rules. At this point, decades later, these are mostly just natural behaviors for her: - She usually has a salad at work for her lunch - She doesn't snack much, and when she does…

Umm, not to divert or anything, but...but...do people do this? :worried:

It probably weighs a few grams. A teaspoon of butter is 5 g.

I've found that I have a fairly high NEAT. I almost always lose faster than the predicted rate, so as long as I'm in the ballpark on logging I lose or maintain fairly easily. Of course, that does mean I have to be "in the ballpark".

I like my omelettes with a side of barbecue sauce for dipping.

"Clean" is a marketing tool. Here's a particularly egregious example: What Panera means is that they've removed preservatives, artificial flavors and colors, and other additives. Good for them, I guess. This matches the least restrictive definitions of "clean", but doesn't most of the more restrictive definitions. For…

"Getting a second job or working overtime won't help you pay down your debt. The only way to decrease debt is to take in more money than you spend." There is a bit of an analogy here. If your second job causes you to spend more money on clothes, or take-out meals, then you may net less money than you expected - you may…

One of my personal rules of thumb: If book has an author with "Dr." or "Ph.D." in her or his name on the cover, that book is garbage. I say this as a professional with a PhD. Professionals don't usually use their titles in this way, which is a hint that this is a marketing tool.

I can never get earphones to stay in. I got a pair from Amazon that hook over your ears and they seem to work well. Like this:

My very first term in college, I took a weightlifting class. The thought was to get one of my PE requirements out of the way, and take an "easier" class to help adjust to college life. Instructor was old school and based final grades solely on whether you could perform certain lifts based on your bodyweight - none of this…

If you want to waste many hours of time, check out some of the great stories on the Malicious Compliance subreddit. That is full of people getting exactly what they asked for, and in some cases getting fired or arrested because of their inability to comprehend the consequences of their requests. Some choice ones: Can't you…

Some people find these kinds of things motivating, I suppose. This "gamification" is a pretty standard thing in digital life nowadays. MFP gives you a digital high-five when you log in for a certain number of days straight. Heck, I'm almost kind of proud of some of my untappd "badges", including the "Extraordinary" badge…

Some people find that eating close to bedtime may disturb their sleep or lead to acid reflux, so in that case point number 2 may be good advice. But it has nothing to do with weight loss.

Keep in mind that there is a maximum amount of fat you can burn per day. If you set your goal too aggressively, you'll consume lean tissue instead of fat. Is that what you want?

"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own necessities, but of their advantages." Adam Smith
