I don't track on big days. I just put down 4000 kcal as a placeholder for the day and move on.

I actually don't think that the statistics are very good on this. We hear the 5% number bandied about, but that is one piece of data based on a very limited set of circumstances. We hear it repeated often because it makes for good blog articles, and because people love to be bearers of bad news. Here's a link I just saw…

LOL. Made me think of this:

I agree with all of this. Don't do something that's making you miserable. You should be in this for the long haul.
-
Seconded.

Vigil mass at 8 PM Saturday evening. Beer, chocolate and ice cream after while we hide eggs (kids don't believe in the EB, just a bit of fun). Find eggs on Sunday morning. Finish cleaning the house while Mrs Jruzer cooks. Extended family over for lunch with the usual middle-America Easter foods Return older boys to their…

Use MFP's goals for a month, eating back some if not all exercise calories. Be entirely honest with your logging. Adjust goals as needed after that.

Cliff bar - about 240 kcal or Greek yogurt - about 150 kcal

I do this all the time.

I can see why it would be confusing. In effect they are listing it twice.
-
And beer, @runnermom419. Don't forget beer!

OP, did I read you correctly? You measured twice, once at the beginning and once after 30 days? Weight can vary significantly from day to day due to a variety of factors, by well more than a pound. This is especially true for females. Your one month weight loss may actually be several pounds, but masked by day-to-day…

Good stuff, @MikePTY. Maybe we need an MFP journal club!

40 lbs in 2 months would be incredibly unhealthy, unless you're morbidly obese and under a doctor's supervision. That's 5 lbs per week, which for most people would mean not eating at all for 2 months. How much do you have to lose, @HelenGerdes?

Craft beer geek here. I make room for it every day. I've got a bottle of Okie imperial brown ale waiting for me in a few minutes.

For those questioning the value of the data, it might be worth checking out some of the publications by the third author. This kind of data analysis must be his specialty: Assessing risk of bias in studies that evaluate health care interventions: recommendations in the misinformation age MJ Page, I Boutron, C Hansen, DG…

I don't think so. Here are the Google Scholar publication lists for the authors. There are far too many articles to list here, but I don't see anything about "Lustig low carb". In fact, most of the publications for these authors appear to be related to osteoarthritis and epidemiology: Katherine Sievert:…

@AnnPT77, @kimny72 I agree with both of you, and I'm also surprised at the direction the thread has taken.

I found the following comments from the author in the discussion section of the article. I thought they were worth repeating:
-
I'm curious why you would say this. Why did the British Medical Journal publish it, then? Presumably the editors and reviewers thought it added value.

You don't have to be perfect. You just have to be a little better than you've been. Hugs.

We hardly ever go out for brunch - Mrs Jruzer is a great cook and baker so we usually have nice weekend breakfasts at home. So when we do go out, I get something we won't have at home. We just happened to go out for brunch last weekend and I got chicken and waffles with bourbon maple butter. It was d@mn good and I have no…

I'm enjoying everyone's comments on this. The message is that breakfast isn't necessary, and may even be detrimental, to weight loss. Many of us regular posters already take this as truth, but the idea that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is well-established in western society outside the narrow confines…

The sound of snow and freezing rain striking the side of my house. On April 10.

I would guess it is at least a factor of 2 too high. Sorry. Unfortunately, "resistance 20" doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? That's an old joke, but there's a lot of Truth in the answer - practice, man, practice. Fat Jruzer always ate up whatever was around, and couldn't be trusted if there were large amounts of food, such as leftover food from a potluck, a block of cheddar cheese, Christmas cookies, etc. But I…

I love sushi. I prefer nigiri to rolls, and toro has got to be my favorite.
