  • You have less to lose now, so it will take longer naturally. Stick with it, you'll get there! Don't get discouraged! Great job!
  • Same here. I only record in the mornings though, daily here on MFP. I can usually tell what I'll be in the morning by what I weight at night, and what I've eaten or done for exercise.
  • I am about to pull the trigger on a Polar FT7. I purchased a Fitbit Flex, but I really don't think it will count calories and activity the way I want it to... so as soon as I receive it, it's up for sale! I need a true HRM, and I like the FT7's simplicity, yet functionality.
  • Thanks @boxpunk. I actually just purchased a fitbit on Ebay, but I think I'm going to re-sell it because I don't think it's going to record and capture the data I want. I am thinking of going with the Polar FT7 instead. I've researched it quite a bit, and watched video reviews on Youtube and it looks like it will fit the…
  • For me, I've always been a picky eater and the thing for me is texture. What my wife does to combat this is puree's a lot of things for me. Either make a smoothie, or a soup, etc. This helps me get the servings I need, and I won't be gagging when there's a texture I wouldn't normally like!
  • Be careful with the soups. That is what I picked up on when reading your thread. Even though they may be low in calories, they are probably LOADED with sodium, which will make you retain water, thus making you not lose weight. Also, remember, low calories isn't always the way to go. You should be hitting (or at least close…
  • WOW! Good for you!
  • I have also been surprised with losing weight AFTER having a cheat day. It doesn't make sense to me, but all the other hard work you are putting in with your caloric intake and exercise outdo everything else. Also, don't really think of it as a diet... think of it as a lifestyle change. Either way, you are doing it right…
  • I have to agree with everyone, sounds like water retention. You probably had a lot of salt / beer that evening out with your buddies. Try not to harp on the scale so much. You've put in the hard work, and your body will eventually catch back up and get you where you want to be, as long as you aren't doing this every night!
  • Hi Gingersnap, first off congratulations for making the commitment! As many have mentioned, log your calories, and exercise! I started 4 weeks ago using MFP, and I've lost 8.5 lbs on my journey to losing 40. I'm also doing Crossfit 3-4 times per week, which is pretty intense. I read one thing as I was going through your…
  • I row mainly for warm-ups / cool downs. Every once in a while I'll do a 1000m row for time. I just started... best time so far was 4:50 for 1000m. Concept 2 Rowing machine ftw!
  • What did you buy for a heart rate monitor?
  • Links to recommended models?
  • Other simple things you can do: Jump rope. Believe it or not if you do it for a while, it burns quite a few calories. Burpees. If you don't know what they are, Google it. I hate them, but it's a full body workout, and you don't need ANY equipment at all.
  • I find MFP's #'s wonky and I want to get either a heart rate monitor or Fitbit to combat that. Also, when weightlifting, you most certainly burn calories, but MFP doesn't record that... it's mostly a "log" which I find annoying. What I have been doing so far with earned back calories, is eating maybe 50% of them to take…
  • Do the Polar Heart Rate monitors sync with MFP like the Fitbits do?
  • I had a cheat day on Saturday for my Dad's birthday, and I found it hard to believe that most of my calorie intake for the day was gone with 2 slices of pepperoni pizza, and a glass of Mtn Dew. (I do not drink soda regularly, but like I said, I splurged and had a treat that day). Unbelievable! It didn't fill me up either,…
  • Welcome back man, and Thank You for serving our Country!
  • It's great that you are taking the first step and making a committment Bekki. This forum has me hooked, and I have a great support group of people I work out with... it actually gives me something to look forward to everyday. I wish you the best of luck on your journey! Stay strong, it will totally be worth it in the end!
  • Non-Food Choice: Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey Protein Food Choice: Lean Ground Turkey, Chicken
  • Good work then man! Keep it up! That's killer!
  • I've heard both schools of thought as well. I agree with trying it out both ways and seeing what works better for you. I wouldn't stock up on breakfast and then do it, (maybe a small bite to eat with some protein for fuel would work) or you may end up losing all of your cookies when you have exerted yourself. I'm curious…
  • Don't be afraid to eat back some of those calories you burned through exercise. I usually don't eat all of them back, but your body does need that nutrition after you've ransacked it with a heavy workout!
  • I call bullcrap on this man.
  • Wow, congratulations to you on only 100 days and 30 lbs! Great job! Keep it up! You are well on your way!
  • I use Optimum Nutrition's 100% Gold Standard Whey. I like it's taste, and it mixes quite well. I don't think you'll find a powdered protein though that completely mixes with no clumps, unless you buy the Ready To Drink mixtures, but those are usually more expensive.
  • This is good. Your body's natural reaction when having back pain is to tense up and protect itself as best as possible. However, stretching it, and icing it too can help a lot. Keep it moving. The longer you stay idle, the more you'll tighten up. If you can invest in one of those foam rollers for home, stretch it out…
  • I've never used a pre/intra workout booster, but maybe ask around at your gym and see if you could try a serving of someone else's brand? Maybe that particular brand doesn't set well with you. That's from BSN, right? I have been using Optimum Nutrition supplements with no side effects, but again like I said, I haven't been…
  • +1 on the foam roller. Spend a lot of time on that. I know sometimes it hurts, but it really does help. The other thing I would advise, is try to get an MRI and see what exactly is going on in your back. Sounds like the L4/L5 region, and the S1 joint. I blew out my L4/L5 and damage to the S1 joint as well. I was out of…
