Me too!!

I'm doing this too starting today. I too am going to note my exercise cals but also just realised that because I use Nike+ when I run I can just look at my NIke+ account and it tells me how many cals I've burned by run/week/month/year whatever! So I can just check every month or so that I'm actually doing what I've…

Thanks Heybales, yes I am going to start from today! I've set cals at 1800. How did you get that my cal deficit is 1000 per day? I wish it was but not sure how you got that? My exercise cals are probably 2500 per week...... From my figures (which you agreed with) my cals at my goal weight should be 1951 per day but I've…

Ah, this sounds exactly what I need to do but I'm so scared of putting the wrong daily cals in. How much do you weigh now and how much are you aiming for and what is your height if you don't mind me asking? I did the same as you on the site heybales suggested and came up with Sedentary (little or no exercise, desk job)…

Sooooo, what should I set MFP to if I want to use your method but add exercise and eat back? At the moment it's on lightly active, lose 1/2lb per week and gives me 1660 cals per day at my current weight.
-
Thanks Heybales, sorry for confusion, I'm confusing myself! What I really want to know is what do you think I should net every day whether I excercise or not? MFP was giving me 1410 on lightly active but I'm always hungry but scared to go up too much. I think I need to have the flexibility of eating more if I exercise but…

# Me again! Right, so I think I worry about not adding exercise cals because for example I was ill on Wednesday so didn't run so that's probably 800 cal burn that is still in my figures for the week but I didn't actually do. That doesn't happen very often but I'm worried about not tracking. So, if I go back to the working…

Sorry to keep on but I'm still getting my head around it! What is the difference between doing this and just setting my daily cals to 1600 and adding my exercise? I know it means that I don't have to eat all my exercise cals on the day I've done the exercise but I don't really do that anyway. I usually eat a bit more when…

I'm in! Thanks for replying to my post. I'm still a bit confused about what MFP will say when I enter my cals but I'm going to adjust it now and see :0
-
Sorry, another thing! I can't seem to add exercise without adding calories on MFP it just won't do it.
-
Also, when setting up MFP do I put my weight at what it is now or what I want it to be? If I put 158 current and 138 goal weight and set up at maintenance and cals at 1951 (as per the other website) and exercise sedentary it says I will lose minus 0.4 per week, so gain........ do I change activity level to active? If I do…

Can you just check my figures please? I'm 41 but 42 in April so used 42 for calc. Female I'm 158lbs and want to be 138lbs (Started at 190 on MFP but have got complacent since before Xmas and stayed the same weight) I sleep for 8 hours but watch tv for about 2-3 hours I work 5 days in an office I have 3 children under 8…

Hi, how I understand this method is that you incorportreate your exercise cals into your daily calorie total then you should have a 3500 green number for 1lb per week, 7000 green number for 2lb per week and 1750 for 1/2 lb per week.
-
Thanks all. I've changed back to MFP settings again! Just can't trust myself with too many green numbers. I've changed my goals to custom and put 1500 for cals and I will add my exercise. I try not to eat all my cals back on exercise days anyway and eat more for the weekend. This way, as long as my number is in green on my…

You have set up correctly, you should be on Maintenance - 1693 BUT you should try to only eat your BMR (1303 ish) so giving you a deficit of 390 each day before adding exercise into it.
-
Just did mine and it gave me 2100, but that is including exercise so you would maintain on that without adding your exercise cals on. This means I'd have to eat 1600 to have a 500 deficit per day to lose 1lb per week. If I put inactive on Mayo I only get 1750 per day, so I'd only have 1200 after a 500 deficit then I could…

I didn't realise we were supposed to select zero exercise and zero calories, that doesn't make any difference does it? As long as the daily goal is our maintenance? Confused!

Hi Olivia, that totally makes sense. I feel the same, even though I'm not running as much as you, I'm probably doing 20-25 miles per week and as my weight got lower, MFP was only giving me 1200 cals per day which I couldn't possibly do! That was only to lost 1lb per week and I just thought, this can't be right, I'm doing…
-
Me too! I do exactly that! I eat well during the week and at the weekend I might have a bottle of wine and a pizza but then I always run at the weekend too and I also look at my weekly deficit rather than daily. After all, this is a long term thing.
-
Hi Olivia, I've set mine up now. Just wondering, did you use the BMR calculation on here or from another site? Mine is 1403 on here and 1488 elsewhere. I know there's not a lot in it, but it's more food at the end of the day!
-
Sooooo, just to clarify again! I've set my MFP to maintenance, 1890. I will try and eat 1500 and if I exercise I'll only eat more if I burn more than 610. Am I right in saying that on my Iphone app if I look at the weekly screen it will show my total deficit, so for example if it says 3500 in green, I should lose a pound…
-
No you can only look at weekly deficit now, I don't mind actually, suits me better!
-
Hi Olivia, I sent you a rather garbled message, but just wanted to clarify: my BMR on MFP is 1403 and maintenance is 1890. I am 5'7" and weigh 156lbs. So am I correct in thinking that I set MFP to maintenance (1890) then I try to eat below that on non exercise days but keep above 1403 (should I aim for 1500 giving me a…
-
Looking at your stats I think I should be eating less then. I am eating around 1400-1500 and doing lots of running but eating all the exercise cals back. If you're losing 1lb per week then no wonder I'm not really getting anywhere lately! I've just worked out I lost 3lb in October and 2lb in September so it's not all bad.…

I got there in the end! This photo lark is a pain!
