Akimajuktuq Holy cow! I haven't been on here in a while so this is first time seeing your updated pic. YOU look A-mazing! Considering the challenges of getting real food in the Arctic, even more congrats! Plus your advice to OP is right on.

Coconut water is tops, but fresh. So much canned and bottled crap sold as coconut water. Make your own ... http://everydaypaleo.com/natural-homemade-paleo-sports-drink-recipe/

Love how you think!

What matters more is if you're eating enough to be 'not hungry' and meeting your energy needs, rather than worry about a calorie number. The thing that makes avocados high in calories is fat; when beginning this way of eating, people often carry over the long standing fear of eating fat and this makes it hard to find…

My husband is non-paleo but eats what I make him (mostly--he's fat-phobic). Meals are a protein (poultry/fish/meat), and multiple vegetables. He has cereal for breakfast and if he wants a sandwich or something, makes it himself. If you're the main cook in the family, consider going ahead and preparing paleo meals. Most…

I just get my protein from meat.

You can find Crossfit WOD (workout of the day) by googling this. Do what you can, and be assured that what is more important is to just move. Walk, do pushups, play with your kids, swim, dance ... just move and revel in the wellness of your body. You don't have to join a gym or be Mr. Perfect Body; what do you want to be…

Depending on your recipe and flavors you're looking for ... substitute basil, italian parsley (flat leaf), tarragon, chives etc.

http://www.hybridrastamama.com/2012/01/160-uses-for-coconut-oil.html I use it for cooking and also make my own body butter with coconut oil + shea butter + olive oil + jojoba oil + essential oil scents I use expeller pressed and mix it 50/50 with ghee (clarified butter) to get a butter flavored spread.

Hard to find someone who shares an understanding that what one eats has an impact on health. Nothing to do with weight issues, but inflammation that presents as joint pain, skin rashes, or whatever ... well, some weight type issues like the belly. The latter is common in my age group (50s) but disappears eating paleo.…

All great suggestions especially the book, Practical Paleo. Skin is the largest organ and outwardly shows inflammation as any number of conditions. You'll have to experiment on yourself to find the specific trigger, so personally would suggest eating very clean for a month as suggested on Whole30 website.

Foods are either good for your health or not good. Up to you to find the foods that result in optimal health for you.

There's a book my daughter used called Real Food for Mother and Baby by Nina Planck. She had a healthy baby boy 8.5 lbs :-)

Fat might be your best bet. Make sure you're not still trying to hold back on eating fat :-) The influence of the past 30 years is hard to ignore.

Would ditto @johnnull & @anjelevil about shedding idea of what is breakfast, and the carb thing. Saving some carbs before bed will help you sleep better--heresy to Weight Watchers everywhere I'm sure, hoping to burn off that granola bar by lunch time.

In addition to being highly refined, it's worse than high fructose corn syrup, almost 85% fructose-- the 'sugar' that can be metabolized almost solely by the liver. Seriously, if you're concerned about your health and still want sugar, use glucose, or cane sugar, just watch how much. Reducing sugar is the best solution…

Google FODMAP and you'll see onions are in a group of foods that cause a reaction in some people. Maybe some of the other foods in that group also cause problems for you? Be aware if you're sensitive to these you may also be to foods containing inulin (sometimes added to foods as a fiber source), so read labels. If you…

A cobb salad wrap: chopped cooked chicken, chopped crispy bacon, slice of avocado, chopped tomato & hard boiled egg ... wrap in romaine leaf, drizzle with dressing, roll up, and eat!

Get this all the time ... almost 2 years eating paleo now; my DH is convinced I have an eating disorder and can't understand how I don't balloon into Michelin Man with all the fat I eat. He's disgusted with me cooking bones for broth and last week forbid this in future because 'we can afford to buy whatever food you need…

If you're just starting out with paleo, consider creating meal plans and building a list from there. Not only prevents the stress of 'what am I going to eat?' but everyone knows shopping from a list saves money. Google 'paleo meal plan' for ideas. Create a plan you keep on the fridge such as this one a quick google search…

homemade mayo sardines in olive oil eggs (hope you eat the yolks!) coconut milk coconut flour (if making stuff like muffins etc) marrow avocado nuts

Ditto. Also sometimes make sausage patties. Sometimes have dinner leftovers for breakfast: yes, osso buco isn't just for dinner :-)

You're right, it can be difficult at the beginning to change one's mindset from everything revolving around processed foods, ubiquitous sugar/sweetening, grains and dairy, and being terrified of eating fat. However, I wouldn't characterize it as 'incredibly hard'. Approximately 50% of my diet is fat (with the exception of…

Hmmm ... it works best when not over filled (never more than inch from lip) and not under filled (aim for 1/3 to 2/3 filled). Google slow cooker recipes. It's ideal for cheap cuts of meat. Don't waste your money cooking chicken breasts or prime rib in a crockpot! You can use it for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you're…

^^ This ... except I'd add this is not a choice. Stay strong and be who you are.

I reached my goal over a year ago and actually kept going--to my dismay. I weigh less than I want to (5' 4" 100lb, want to be 108 or so) and make sure I now eat high carb vegetables and bigger servings to add back weight; maintaining at 100 past 8 months nevertheless, but also a small frame, so maybe this is my norm? For…

Encourage more people to eat paleo: good one! Thanks!

Practical Paleo by Dianne Sanfilippo is a cookbook and guide to paleo including meal plans Make it Paleo ... another cookbook that is also a guide You can read also read my profile for other ideas.

I'd say look at this with a long view. The focus is on improving your health and part of that will be weight loss if that's how your body responds, and it can also be other results, depending on your circumstances. Don't look at it like a 'diet' for a month or so--this is a way of eating that is difficult in the beginning…
