HAHAH. *ahem. okay sorry.* I'm laughing at your conflating a marathon and a 5K in part because I did a ton of 5Ks in 2013 (then none in 2014, hence why I'm here and tracking/losing/exercising again)... and my mom always called them marathons. And I'd be like "if I did what I did about eight more times, THAT would be a…

I would just switch your diary to 'sedentary' and maybe switch it to a very low loss (.5/week) or maintenance. That way you don't gain anything but you're taking it easy, so to speak? I've never heard healing takes MORE calories, but what do I know. I would think as long as you don't over-exert yourself physically, you…

Faith, sounds like what you're really doing is just clean eating, which is fab. Hang around the boards for a while, keep logging everything you eat, and you'll find this place is pretty supportive and MFP works great!

Also, plenty of people totally WALK the whole 5K at 5K events! If you're not moving much at all now, make walking 5K a goal and slowly walk faster and faster.

10 miles is more than 3x a 5K. (a 10K is only 6.2 miles!) :-) Nice work, mac!

I often think you don't nix an addiction, you simply replace it with something else. I'm most successful at losing weight when I don't simply change the diet, I fixate on something like running--that then gets me out of the kitchen and goes toward my goals--and then it becomes easier. I always notice this about shows like…

Lots of people eat back their calories. Lots eat half back. lots eat none. ;-) It'll be a transition as you figure out what makes you feel satisfied and still allows you to lose weight. I recommend you start with meeting your daily target (1600) and then if you work out and feel hungry, eat back half those calories. In a…

I expect my 7 yr old to eat a balanced meal, but I quite frequently hand her a plate that is different than what my husband and I are eating. I grew up in a family of 5 and was the only picky eater...and I was often hungry. We had school lunches and I often ate nothing. They forced us to take milk cartons and mine went…

Most structured weight loss programs have you weigh in once a week at most. (Some, like WW, won't even let you log in your weight more than that online...). You don't have to log your weight DAILY on MFP. Also, if you're a woman (can't tell by the name), you may have one week out of each month where you plateau or bump…

I use cooking spray for everything. Works fine. *shrug*

LOL.

Is your cheat meal a "go to TGI Fridays and get appetizers, dinner, and drinks?" because that could be A LOT of calories. 3500 cals = 1 lb. But other than that, just stick with it. If you lost 20 lbs in 2.5 weeks and then it's been a 2 week plateau, yeah that's frustrating but you could turn around and lose 5 lbs the next…

Here's an example of how starvation mode doesn't exist: Everyone who has ever had weight loss surgery and lost weight. They lose so rapidly because they are so severely restricted to tiny meals. My mother got it and can only eat like a half cup to a cup of food total and then has to wait to digest before she can eat again.…

yeah, normal! Doesn't mean you gained weight from your workout. I can lose weight on diet alone for weeks and the week I add any kind of workout, it bumps up briefly.

I like the little packaged one-serving salad bowls at Safeway--and they recently added wraps! My favorite is a buffalo chicken one. 290 calories, has two small tortillas, spicy sauce, lettuce, chicken, cheese, chopped celery... it's yummy.

ha, I was going to say I have a fitbit flex and love it. What did you not like about the fitbit you had? They have changed enormously over the years....
-
three gym visits in four days! I had to buy a gym bag and a combo lock and i'm feelin' like a REAL gym person. Also am wearing my fitbit today for the first time!

You look fantastic! Nice work lady. :-)
-
Nothing to add, but to the OP-- your before and "in progress" picture is fantastic! good for you.

I've successfully lost weight twice on WW (I lost 30 lbs via online tools the first time, and maintained until I had a baby) and lost 35 lbs the second time (baby weight), but obviously I did eventualy gain it back the second time. Not because WW isn't a maintainable thing, though. Just because I got lazy. I think it is…

What's your height/weight? Do you feel hungry at 1300? What rate are you losing at now? It's best to lose at a slower rate and eat at a level you don't feel deprived, since this is meant to be a lifestyle not a diet. But if you're short and not very overweight now, and feel full at 1300, no one will FORCE you to stay…

Right?! I thought of it as something "for guys who want to bulk up" but have more recently realized that those gorgeous legs and flat stomachs are actually in part due to strength training! Plus... up my metabolism? yes please!

OH, and another good one is a beef roast + a can of chipotle chiles in adobo sauce (the can is like a buck in the Mexican food section at any grocery store). Blend the chiles in a processor if you have one, and pour it over the roast to let it cook. Then you just shred the beef after it's done and make spicy street tacos…

I do a whole chicken in the crock pot-- just put salt/pepper/paprika, whatever seasonings you like, and stick it in and THAT IS LITERALLY IT. It releases its own juices and by the time you're ready to eat it, it's practically falling off the bone. I literally have to use two giant serving spoons to get it out because if…

I have a friend who is allergic to canola oil and I've been amazed how much has canola oil-- and that restaurants even clean their grills with it!

This bugs me too! Especially when 5 mintues later they're like "OMG did you see the new episode of blah blah blah last night?"
-
NICE! I remember when you get to weeks 4, 5, 6...and you're like WTF I CAN'T RUN THAT LONG! And then... you're doing it. Amazing how fast our bodies can improve/adjust. Keep it up!
-
Holy smokes, you look like you went from 35 years old to 24 or something! You look fantastic! (And your running times are encouraging--- I ran a lot last year and got down to about 10 min/miles and figure that was just my speed.... how great that you cut so much down on your 5k time!

I joined a gym today and have filled out my calendar with classes and workout days. This may seem like no big deal but I've never joined a public gym (had them occasionally in apartment complexes), and walking in intimidates me.
