I think this is a rather judgmental take on it. I lost weight rather accidentally (stress/wasn't eating well) after being overweight for some time. As soon as I was down 10-20 pounds, moving became easier, I started to feel better about myself, and I kicked into gear. I bought new clothes for the first time in years, stuff…

Since 10% is what many diet programs say is enough to see actual health benefits, I've always seen that as "substantial"-- it makes an impact! good for you!

Running a St. Paddy's day 5K! I broke several bones in my ankle last summer and now have 12 screws in it so I'm hoping to steadily build up to that. :-)

1600-1800 sounds very low for an active male. That's definitely 'weight loss' territory. I'm 5'10, female, and my daily target with a sedentary lifestyle and a 1.5lb/week goal loss is 1580. That you are active and a dude and have almost the same calorie target when you don't want to lose weight sounds wrong. I would walk…

What does "not getting anywhere now" mean specifically? Did you hit a plateau? How long ago? how long have you been tracking overall? Do you stay consistently under your calorie goal?
-
I love these! Especially since I'm a 16 right now and basically that means I'm supposed to be in plus size sections. At my light weight I'm size 7-8 (5'10, medium build). You guys inspire me!

we're close in age and SW (although my GW is higher as I'm 5'10)... feel free to add me!

If you open up your diary people CAN see details about what you eat.
-
*shrug* I actually WOULD consider avoiding breads, potatoes, pasta, rice, etc as a low carb diet. Or low (er) carb diet at least. That doesn't mean it's your magic trick, but people will treat it like it is one.

YUP. My mom always refers to certain foods as "fattening," like it's that ONE food's fault. And I can barely stop the eyeroll. No ONE food is fattening.

Crock pot chicken is one of my FAVORITE recipes! I pour the stock into leftover spaghetti sauce jars and use it for soup the next day. keep an eye out for two packs of whole chicken, it's often a lower per-pound price. Also-- look at the frozen bags of chicken. It can often be a lot cheaper than the stuff in the meat…

Right?! Who buys turkey bacon when the caloric difference is so miniscule and turkey bacon tastes terrible?
-
HA, you are "elevating" your chicken above the juices/fat and then wondering why it dries out? I do a whole chicken with seasoning and nothing else and it's fall-apart juicy. (Literally, I can't get it out of the crock pot without the whole skeleton falling apart. I use two giant spoons to move it to a pan and pull the…

The word "try" is a pretty big red flag. You don't have to TRY to lose weight, simply say you WILL lose weight if you're actually committed. (Also cant stand when people say they've "tried" everything. Diets aren't a pair of pants you put on and take off, you commit to them.)

I do this EXACT same thing. One calorie-filled meal and I use it as an excuse "well, I'm already over for the day, so...." and then it's Thursday and I'll 'start fresh" on Monday... and then weeks later am like DAMMIT. So I've learned I really need to keep the streak going for maximum results, and it keeps me from being…

How would metrics change the fact that they are counting an individual sized bottle as two servings?

LOL McMforLife I think she was just trying to add tips and ideas for others, not convince you that you should do your burritos a different way. :-) I actually love the idea of making a few and freezing them, I think I will try it! I'm kind of English muffin-ed out right now, but I get up before the rest of the house and…

Thanks for sharing inspirational pics guys! I'm 5'10 SW 236 (CW 232, just started), and could use some MFP friends! Add me!

I just wanted to add-- I love how much info we have on our smart phones, and you sound like you like to have some control over things, but he's the opposite and wants to just roll with it. You can give him the illusion you're being super easy going by tossing out a few restaurants for him to pick from. Use the notepad app…

Ben, just wanted to add-- it looks like you eat out for lunch, by your diary and "bento box" comment. And here's the thing-- HOW something is prepared can have a HUGE impact on calorie count. One place can do stir fry veggies with a tiny spray of oil, and another can practically deep fry the stuff, or add in stuff like…

in my case it's definitely a macro. A macrobrew, since I like Budweiser, Coors, etc.

100% AGREED. It sounds like you're trying to change ALL aspects of your behaviors/diet all at once, which is leading to being overwhelmed and throwing in the towel. START SMALL. The first week, swap one unhealthy snack for a healthier or lower-calorie one. It doesn't mean trading a cookie for a celery stick. It could be…

You sound as if you are suffering from depression and therapy is what you need-- not something external to somehow "fix" what's going on inside your head.
-
Yeah, change it back to sedentary and then log your exercise. You can choose whether to eat those calories back or not. If you set it as "lightly active" you're getting a higher daily allotment of calories.
-
yeah. put your finger on tomorrow's log, swipe to the left, hit delete.

Yeah a tough mudder you would NOT do in 3 months of training. it's 10-12 miles of obstacles. But you could do a 5K mud run no problem. I did Warrior Dash in 3 months of training and that was couch-to-warrior dash, no fitness to begin with. You'll be fine. (I DID skip monkey bars and one big wall.)

ha, I guess it never occurred to me about the carbs in pea soup as I just don't equate peas/vegetables with carbs. But I'm not a carb watcher, i'd rather just stay under calorie limits. I basically just chop carrots + onions + celery, toss it in the pot with the peas and the liquid specified on the bag (often as vegetable…

whole chicken is great because then you have the broth + leftover chicken for soup on day 2. Put it in with paprika, salt, whatever seasonings and turn it on and it makes its own juices. I also really like doing a pot roast with a can of adobo peppers-- makes spicy pulled beef (but not too spicy for kids-- I use 2 cans to…
