Good bread, toasted (some amazing whole-grain wheat or some homemade sourdough) Slice avocado, then mash it on top of the bread - use at least a quarter avo for each slice of bread, more if you want! Salt and pepper on top of the avocado Add a poached egg on top of that Eat with a knife and fork... it's an AMAZING…

I'm half Irish, but have never been to Ireland and would LOVE to go. My boyfriend's mom is from Ireland (Cork) so he has lots of family over there - I'm hoping we go visit them! :drinker:

The Fitbit, when synced with MFP, takes into account what you set your activity level at. So if you're set for "lightly active," your Fitbit will NOT give you extra calories to eat just from your normal walking around that you might do on your job... but will give you extra calories for exercising, like going on a run. If…

My Fitbit Zip. Hands down. I find it super-motivating plus gives me a really accurate sense of how active I am day to day.

I've always enjoyed walking and especially hiking, but as I gained weight it became harder to go long distances or do lots of uphill... I still did it, but much more slowly, and with a lot more stopping and resting! When I first started on this trek to fitness, I mainly was walking and hiking, working on endurance. I then…

Go Giants! I spend a good amount of time at AT&T Park. :drinker:

I worked as an outdoor environmental educator for awhile and we all had "nature names," mine was Kestrel. Then I got into geocaching but Kestrel was taken, so I became redwoodkestrel, since I lived in the redwoods at the time. Easy enough just to keep that name here, too!

Have you been checked for anemia? Craving and eating ice is a pretty common symptom of an iron deficiency... But hey, it's just frozen water, you really don't need to add it to your food diary, unless you want to add it to the amount of water you're drinking per day. In which case, just measure the water when you pour it…

Zombie thread... but if I was in charge of the rules I'd make the winners all weight in again 6 months after the competition, and if they'd gained a certain percentage of the weight back, they have to pay back the money... maybe give it to the folks who weigh even LESS 6 months later. :drinker: That way, if they want to…

Nope, if the two are synced, any calories burned from step-based activities should automatically come from your Fitbit. No need to add it in MFP.

I mainly eat a vegetarian diet though I do eat fish. My meals day-to-day are usually pretty similar, with smaller breakfasts and lunches and bigger dinners since I do the bulk of my exercising after work. Breakfast: Coffee w/ half & half, a container of 2% or full-fat greek yogurt (on the weekend yogurt is swapped for…

It's basically one or the other. If your exercises are coming from step-based activities, then they're counted in your Fitbit adjustment - your Fitbit tells MFP how many calories you've burned through those exercises. MFP lists the time as "1 minute" because the Fitbit only sends along the steps/calories burned, NOT the…

It's summer in San Francisco (read: fog and brrrrrr!) and you're wearing shorts and a tank top and/or your child is swimming at Ocean Beach. You're eating clam chowder out of a sourdough bowl at Fisherman's Wharf when there are thousands of amazing and better restaurants nearby. You're on a segway tour and/or riding a…

I started at 300+ in mid-January. I'm now down to 235, which amazes me. I now run regularly, which amazes me. I can fairly easily keep within my calorie goals on a daily basis, which amazes me. Things I never thought possible before. Whenever I get frustrated, thinking it's going too slow, I remember that I've lost…

17 months may seem like a long time. Long enough to make you feel discouraged and wish you could just lose it all faster. It might even feel like too long, and might make you feel like you just want to quit now. But think about how you'll feel, 17 months from now, if you ended up quitting now because you're not losing fast…

Total nerd here (marine biologist), and decided to combine my love of zombies with my need for fitness through the Zombies, Run! apps. Started with C25k, now doing Season 1 of the regular app. *Love* being immersed in a post-apocalyptic story while running... and being chased by zombies!

I usually eat 25-75% of my Fitbit calories back, generally right around 50%. I've had my Fitbit since January and have lost 60 lbs in that time so it seems to be working!
-
I'll also echo the virtues of Couch to 5k. It's a great way to work your way up to running. Like you, I always HATED running, but started C25k at around close to 300 lbs, finished it, and now run fairly regularly. And the rule of thumb I learned is that you should be able to carry on a conversation while you're running. If…

No particular answer for you, but here are some thoughts I have from looking at your diary from the past week: 1. Are you weighing everything you eat? 2. What almonds are you eating that are only 69 calories for one cup?! Send those my way, since generally, one cup of almonds is about 530 calories! 3. Why are you…

Take Your Mama by the Scissor Sisters - I literally start dancing while I'm running when it comes up in my earbuds!

C25K is the way to go! Builds you up slowly by having you do run/walk intervals. When I started it I was close to 300 lbs and hadn't run willingly since probably junior high! But I did it, finished it, and now run regularly.
