  • These two photos were taken almost exactly a year apart - July 2013 vs. yesterday. Though I didn't start on my weight loss trek (I say trek because it's certainly more work than a journey! ) until around late January/early February of this year. I was probably even heavier than that first photo when I started (but…
  • Pretty much anything that combines salty and sweet. Dark chocolate with sea salt. Salted caramel. Chocolate covered pretzels. And I have 117% no control with any conceivable combination of peanut butter and chocolate.
  • LOVE IT. Can't wait for season 5 and the escape from Terminus! Though I'm a fan of almost all zombie-related things. Anyone do the Zombies, Run! C25K or regular running app? Love them as well! Nothing like getting chased by zombies to get my fat butt running!
  • It may just be because they've been having syncing issues lately. Try disconnecting and then re-connecting to see if you see the adjustment. You may need to do that a few times a day to pull over your Fitbit adjustment, at least until they figure out what the issue is!
  • Sriracha Salsa Avocado (I put it on EVERYTHING)
  • It really is different for everyone. People with a lot of weight to lose will generally lose 50 lbs faster than people with ONLY 50 lbs to lose. Men tend to lose faster than women. That said, I lost 50 lbs in about 5.5 months, coming in right around 2 lbs/week.
  • It actually takes the Fitbit about a week to get to "know" you and your general activity level from day-to-day. Once that week goes by you'll find that the calories you're getting from the Fitbit will more closely align with the calories MFP is giving you. You should also note that the calories you're getting from your…
  • Oops, I tried - but your pictures should be no more than ~600 pixels wide. Resize! All you need is the url (the "http://...." part), inside of [ img ] [ /img ] but remove the spaces in the brackets.
  • trying to help, but the image was already deleted. Use lowercase img, not IMG. You don't need any URL in brackets either.
  • Work in SF, live in SF - a dedicated Outer-Sunset-ite! Nothing beats a sunset over the ocean with a view of the Farallones, all from the comfort of my living room.... when it's not summer, that is.
  • My Fitbit made me aware of how little I was actually moving on a daily basis. I easily fooled myself into thinking I was relatively active - when in reality, I was usually only taking between 2000-3000 steps/day. Having the Fitbit has motivated me to be more active - first working on getting up to 10,000 steps/day, and I…
  • I'm also a marine biologist, though my critters of choice are intertidal inverts. I've lost 50 lbs, hoping to lose at least 75 more! Feel free to add me! :drinker:
  • It won't double-count your calories - you can wear your Fitbit all day, and it will only add calories burned to MFP ABOVE what you have your activity level set for. Most people I know with Fitbits set their activity level to sedentary and wear their Fitbit all the time - so any activity you do above the normal "sedentary"…
  • Do you have MFP and your Fitbit synced? If so, go by what MFP tells you is your remaining calories for the day. You don't have to eat them all back, but most people aim for eating back ~50-75% of their exercise calories.
  • Will this help? When comparing equal *volumes* of fat and muscle (i.e., fill up a 5 gal. bucket of fat and a 5 gal. bucket of muscle), the muscle is more dense and thus *weighs* more... and when comparing equal *weights* of fat and muscle (i.e., 5 lbs of fat and 5 lbs of muscle), muscle is more dense and thus takes up less…
  • Anyone is welcome to add me - I've lost 50 lbs, have at least 75 more to go! :drinker:
  • I really like the compression pants/capris and tops from Old Navy - they're fitted enough that they don't allow skin to rub, but the tops I've bought have enough looseness in the belly area that I don't feel like I look like a sausage with legs. And I'm all for running in a tank top - way better than anything with…
  • I'm in! • It takes about a week for your Fitbit to really get to know you - at which point the calorie adjustments will even out and you'll see more consistency in what you get as calories burned based on your activity level. Keep with it for a bit - I got my Fitbit in January and have lost 50 lbs since, and I really credit the…
  • I'll also put in a +1 for Couch to 5K. I am doing the Zombies, Run! version of C25K and it's great (I only have 2 more workouts until I'm done!) - not only because it slowly builds up your endurance for running, but also because it immerses you in a story - you're a character, and you hear more about other characters and…
  • Try oldnavy.com - they're having a sale right now, 15% off almost everything. You can find some nice pants, a few blouses, a sweater or two... all without breaking the budget. Start with pants that are easy to match lots of tops with, like these: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=9086&vid=8&pid=269887012
  • I've been binge-watching the second season this weekend... it works out well, since I have a bunch of work I need to get done anyway, so I can type away on my laptop and watch episode after episode. Four more left!
  • You need to up your activity level on MFP then. If you're set at sedentary, then almost any step-based activity, including just the walking you do daily, will sync from your Fitbit and add to your calories burned. If you want fewer calories burned to come from your Fitbit, then you should up your activity level on MFP - if…
  • To actually answer your question (and not just weigh in on the usefulness of the Fitbit), the Fitbit calculates your calories burned just by being alive - the calories you burn through breathing, keeping your heart beating, your brain functioning, etc. This is calculated based on your age, sex, and weight, and they are…
  • Last week I had Monday off from work and decided to hike to the summit of Jack London State Park - and also do some geocaching along the way. It was a gorgeous and warm day, but the mosquitoes were absolutely insane in the shade! Tried my best to do any stopping and resting in the full sunshine - though I definitely got…
  • Try to think about your calories eaten as a weekly total, at least for this weekend. So - if you've been eaten below your calorie goal a couple days this week, eating a bit over it on the weekend is fine - it all averages out. Or, just don't worry about it! It's your birthday, treating yourself and eating at maintenance…
  • I think the best thing to do would be getting a Fitbit - it syncs automatically with MFP, and calculates your calories burned based on your step-based activity - even just walking as part of your job. The Fitbit Zip isn't very expensive and would be perfect for the job!
  • So great! Nice work, and congrats! I'll be doing week 7 day 2 of the Zombies, Run! C25K this afternoon... then only 4 more workouts until I'm DONE! It's always the first 5 minutes that are the hardest, I agree. If I can push through those and *not* concentrate on how much longer I have to run, then I find the rest of the…
