  • When I'm on a calorie deficit kick, I literally gorge myself on raw veg / salad, and keep sugar free jello in the fridge to bloat myself out on if I get hungry. If you are feeling stuffed, it's easier to ignore any craving for snacks... A lot of snacks are marketed as 'healthy' being around 100 calories or less, but at the…
  • You look fantastic. I can't see where you need to lose weight. At all! In fact I'd say your thighs could do with 'building up' a bit, if anything. (A bit more muscle to give a slightly fuller more shapely appearance). Unless you're going for that unhealthy looking 'size zero' look...
  • I don't I'm afraid. I do work out portion sizes from the overall size of the food package e.g. 500g of rice divide by five equals one portion of 100g. I have set my calorie goals on the low side to err on the side of caution, and deliberarely underestimate calories burned through exercise, if I log them at all.
  • The only real alternatives to sugary drinks are their zero-cal equivalents e.g. Diet Coke, but you've ruled them out for some reason so.... I'm going to say 'Tomato Juice'. Healthier than water, even, because it's full of nutrients (and fills you up).
  • I'm happy with healthy eating. For me the key is keeping things interesting and tasty. There are no calories in spices and seasoning. Just because food is healthy doesn't mean it has to taste like cardboard. For instance, right now I am thinking about a large juicy rare steak, with a generous and varied salad sprinkled…
  • There's an excellent no fat, no sugar banana cookie recipe on this site. Basically mashed banana mixed with porridgeoats/flaked oats formed into cookies and baked (cinnamon and raisins to taste). They aren't exactly 'to die for', but they are filling and quite healthy!
  • Bump. Ha! I did this diet last year and everyone remarked at my weight loss after a week. MFP helped me shed a little more weight and keep it off, but this simple to follow diet was exactly what I needed at the time to 'reset' my eating habits. Sure there's little info on portion sizes, but you'd have to eat to bursting…
  • Diabetics use artificial sweeteners, and I'm guessing that's because they do *not* affect blood sugar or insulin, despite what internet folklore may tell you. There's some evidence that the sweetness of artificial sweeteners can increase your appetite but this has nothing to do with blood sugar, it's more of a neurological…
  • But you *can* do a crash diet and back it up with a lifestyle change, and keep off the weight that you lost. Think of the diet as a 'factory reset' of your eating habits.
  • This is why instead of drinking a cup of coffee, I drink a cup of pure water (followed by a mouthful of instant coffee granules). That way, I am getting both my caffeine fix AND taking care of my water requirement! Simples!
  • I can't tell if you are trying to be funny or not....? I mean... is it really worth going to the effort of distilling your water to remove absolutely tiny trivial quantities of those substances (some of which are actually beneficial, by the way)
  • What really turns me off in a date is the sense they have some preconceived list of attributes I am being measured up against. ;P
  • Agree that 1200 cals might lead to binge eating but of course, if you really could stick to 1200, the weight would drop off (like someone with a gastric bypass). Here's an idea, why not reduce the cals incrementally each week so you get used to eating less gradually?
  • I eat sugar free jelly (jello to you!) or guzzle diet soda with lots of ice and lemon slices (try and make it feel like a treat).
  • The overall calorie intake is probably more important than the ratio of carbs. As suggested be accurate with your portion sizes and if that's problematic, err on the side of overestimating your portion sizes when adding to your diary. Is 1400-1500 what MFP suggests for your size/height/activity level and what is the…
  • Like I said, it kick started me. There was a visible change in me after just one week, which gave me encouragement to keep going (not with the crash diet, but with being careful what I eat). It also got me acclimatised me to much smaller portion sizes so in the following week, although I didn't follow the diet, I ate…
  • For some people I guess these diets just cause a you-yo effect (and they're obviously unhealthy if done often/continuously). However I tried a similar one, and it helped kick-start a weight loss process that successfully lead me to shed 28lb (starting from about 196lb).…
  • I think the idea of an open diary is that people can read it and comment, rather than help you fill it out! Re excercise, when comparing how many calories the elliptical trainer says I have burned, compared to what MFP tells me it should be, I have come to the conclusion that MFP seriously overestimates calories burned. So…
  • I drink Yorkshire Tea nowadays... Tea is supposed to be the dried leaves of the tea plant, boiled in water and served with a slosh of milk. Very healthy way of staying hydrated with a bit of added protein from the milk! No sugar please... I'm sweet enough already... Tea should be hot, bland and comforting, and served in…
  • A thin layer of marmite makes a cheese sandwich explode with flavour intensity. It's not possible to eat much marmite owing to the strong saltiness, so I'm not sure what the problem is supposed to be.
  • Hi! I would advise setting your goals in this site/app, and let the site determine your calorie intake requirements. Then log in your meals as accurately as possible into the food diary. The phone app is handy for this. Avoid going over your daily limit and you should lose weight. If you are used to large portions, bulk…
  • Servers in the UK are subject to the same minimum wage as everyone else, but in the US they take tipping into account when calculating the minimum wage for tipped employees "Some types of labor are also exempt: employers may pay tipped labor a minimum of $2.13 per hour, as long as the hourly wage plus tip income equals at…
  • Eggs are very cheap, healthy and a good basis for a lot of meals; veg is actually cheap if you shop around too (avoid prepackaged stuff). Generally by avoiding processed ready meals, I would have thought your food bill would go down not up...
  • Clearly noticeable in your face, as well as your gut. Well done! Sometimes guys are a bit reluctant to comment on another guy's appearance (hence the reason for the phrase 'no homo!', and people might also be worried about saying the wrong thing.
  • I thought this was because being jacked was helpful if you are a sprinter, but being light and lean was helpful if you are a long distance runner. If you do cardio won't you use up your glycogen reserves first, then body fat, THEN (as a last resort, when the other two are depleted) muscle?
  • That is so sad and defies logic! :(
  • How about whole foods, milk etc? Unless he's starting exceptionally young as a competitive bodybuilder...

  • Yes. I lost weight rapidly. I only did it for one week though, as advised on the diet plan. You can't live like that indefinitely without health consequences IMHO. After the week was up I tapered my diet back to more normal levels and the weight continued to come off. (I was warned by several people about the 'starvation…
  • The key thing is they are being made more digestible, much of the fiber being removed and/or 'predigested' by the smoothie maker. I think it's nicer and more filling to eat fruit whole rather than blended although you'll get your vitamins either way...
