YES! I'm right there with you...just about 6 weeks ahead actually. I'm 55, divorced 7 years ago, work in healthcare, and devoted the last 5 years to getting my last child through high school. Covid was awful working in healthcare and then perimenopause hit. I gained 50 lbs in the last 6 years: went from being in the best…

I see tan lines and muscles, so I'm going to say hard working outdoor lover!

In the same boat! I lost 35 lbs in 2011 with MFP and maintained that loss for 4 years. Then my marriage took a nosedive and I jumped ship...putting 10 lbs on in a little over a year. I maintained my exercise, but did not watch my diet...not one little bit. I DESERVED all those Reese's PB cups after all the suffering I'd…

Hi; I'm back again for round 2! I'm 48 and lost 35 lbs in 2011 with MFP. After going thru a devastating divorce, I gained 10 lbs in the last year and am looking to take it back off. It is harder to lose weight in our 40's, but the results are SOOOO worth it. I can't wait to regain my sassy self-esteem and love the way I…

Add me! This is Misty, my 10 year old black lab that I just adopted from a rescue. She was used as breeding stock for a voracious breeder, who then would "put down" (ie shoot) his females once they were too old to breed. The rescue saved 4 labs from that particular kennel and after meeting her, I knew I could provide her a…

Honestly; you probably won't make the change until being where you are at is so uncomfortable (mentally and or physically) that you are willing to make the lifestyle changes that being healthy requires. For starters, try reframing your thinking...working out isn't a priority for you, but what about taking care of yourself…

Sister from another mister!! LOL I'm in year 5(!!) of maintaining a 30+ lb weight loss and recently got into a funk and gained back 7lbs; putting me at my highest weight since 2012. It's amazing how we allow such a little number to make such a major impact on our mental health. I think once I stopped beating myself up and…

My husband bought me a jawbone UP as a gift and I loved it, but I had to send in FOUR for replacement. Their customer service was great, but it was a hassle. I recently purchased the Fitbit Alta and I really like it. I do think it underestimates steps, but I'd rather have it underestimate than overestimate. Are they a fad?…

Added you...your fencing comment made me laugh. Snark away...we will get along famously!

I did 2 halfs 6 days apart last June...my first was a 2:10 and my second (more technical trail run) was a 2:24...you can do it!!

A 9 mile running leg of a triathlon in April, my 3rd 1/2 in June, and my 1st full in September. I'm fighting IT band issues right now, so I'm a little bummed.

Hi; I'm 47 and have been running for 4 years. Did my first 2 halfs last June and promptly jumped off the run wagon. I'm back on now, training for a 10 miler in April, a half in June, and a full in September. Add me...I could use some running buddies :)

Add me to the 47 club. I'm mildly amusing and highly accountable...I even married an accountant who has mistaken his CPA for the CIA (he takes his job WAAAAYYYY too seriously) And if that isn't fun, I don't know what is ;)

I grew up eating wild game: mostly deer, elk, moose and grouse as my dad was/is a hunter and we did not buy any of our meat from a store. I grew up in MT and currently reside in WY and can't recall ever seeing wild game meat for sale in any of our grocery stores, but it may be available at your local butcher or meat shop?

I completed my first 2 halfs last June and am running the Yellowstone Half again this June. I finished in 2:10 for the Deadwood Half and 2:24 for the Yellowstone (they were 6 days apart and the Yellowstone is a trail run) I'm also doing a 1000 mi/year challenge this year and am struggling with jumping back on my training…

You can add me as well; I'm looking for more accountability MFP friends closer to my own age. I'll be 47 next week and am currently training for my first marathon! I changed my life 5 years ago and never looked back. My 40's have been amazing, health wise. Looking forward to getting even better in my 50s

Any of you can add me as well. I have used MFP for almost 5 years and lost 35 lbs in my first 6 months; maintaining after that....UNTIL this past June! I changed my entire lifestyle in those 5 years and at the pinnacle of my success, I ran my first 2 halfs back to back in June!! Then I promptly dived off the wagon and…

Accidentally hitting my head makes me murderous. And the fact that MFP doesn't have a "like" button in the forums...some of these comments are hilarious and deserve some love!

I also throw it in smoothies :)

I really think the key to learning to run successfully is starting slow. I never enjoyed running, but wanted to start after I lost 30 lbs through strength training and diet. I started out walking for 2 minutes, running for 30 seconds…repeating for 30 minute sessions. It wasn't difficult and built my confidence as I…

Great post! I'm running my first 1/2 June 7th. Love the hints about the flip flops and the trash bags :)

I wish MFP had a like button! Good shoes are a MUST. If you have a running store anywhere near you, I would suggest venturing in and having them fit your foot. Don't be shy about telling them you are just starting out; I have found that almost all runners are very welcoming to "newbies" :) But you definitely need shoes…

You are AMAZING and your story gave me both goosebumps and tears. I am currently training for my first 1/2 in June and I loved the grit and determination you showed in your training…how inspiring! Thank you for sharing your story; it was just the right motivation at the right time for me. GO YOU!!

Do you get angry about having to brush your teeth? I view it as self care. Why be angry about loving yourself enough to take care of your body? Change the way you view your life and your choices and you will change your life. You aren't "suffering the consequences", you are taking steps to enhance your health and enjoy…

Macademia nuts here!

I've been here for 3.5 years and have kept the weight off, so I'm going with lifestyle change :)

Too numerous to list…but I've always been a picky eater. My husband refers to me as "Mrs. McPicky" LOL On a side note; my 11yo son has autism and when he was younger, he would only eat about 5 foods: apples, bacon, milk, apple juice and any highly processed carb, like ritz crackers. When we instituted the recommended…

Best comment ever!

Hi Melissa; I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling. I too, have found it is harder to lose/maintain now that I am in my 40's…but it CAN be done. I lost 30 lbs 3 years ago and have managed to keep it off, but it takes a diligent commitment to consistency in my food plan and exercise. For me, strength training was the…

I love reading all these!! Last week, I ran 7 miles! First time I've ever run that far in my life!!
