Congrats! I will be running my first 1/2 in July and it will have taken me 45 years! LOL Your time and placement is phenomenal!! I'm just hoping to finish!

I am in better physical and mental shape now at almost 45 than I ever was in my 20s or 30s. It has also taken me almost 10 months to recover from a nasty run-in w/ a medication that acted as a neurotoxin to my body, causing me all sorts of pain and grief. BUT, I'm still here and I'm still in the game and will never let…

^^THIS. I sooooo agree with this; esp in the US. As a nation, the average American is at least 10 lbs overweight, most are more. Anytime you start appearing "different" from the herd, they start talking...some mean well, some don't. Some are jealous, some are genuinely worried. Some wonder what YOUR journey says about…

Christmas Vacation and It's Complicated...both make me laugh aloud, no matter how many times I watch them!

Tongue...nasty. Not sure who is tasting who! And Lutefisk.

Stretching, foam roller, epsom salt baths and plenty of water! A massage works wonders too!

Your brain is holding your body hostage....simple as that.

Sorry, but I call BS on his "moving on". If he had actually moved on, there would be no need to text you and tell you that. *Most* mature, happy, confident-in-their-decision men DO NOT send ex-texts like that, no matter what the motivation. Personally, I think he had an ulterior motive.

List a few, please. Some of us live in Hooterville, where "exotics" are not readily available, so we are stuck with the big labels (and are lucky to find that). LOVE me some Amazon.com for ordering certain groceries :)

Thank you! :) And I enjoyed my good health and weight loss before I got sick and now I KNOW how great it feels to be healthy and I LONG for that feeling again. I will get there again, it's just taking much longer than I anticipated to stage my "comeback" LOL

Yes; after I lost 40 lbs I became the most ill I have ever been in my life, but it had nothing to do with the weight loss: I suffered a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic that has left me with chronic, intermittent joint and muscle pain as well as chronic painful nerve damage that requires the use of Prednisone and…

Actually, I think this is a GREAT idea...regardless of whether it is entirely accurate or not. The power of positive visualization is a strong one! Good luck! :)

All of the previous reasons mentioned and a few more of my own...but my biggest change was reframing HOW I saw exercise and proper nutrition. I had to stop looking at it from a vanity standpoint and start looking at it from a self-care point of view. Once I started acting like exercise was as much a part of my daily…

Funny! I just finished tracking my lunch and ate *gasp* a WHOLE avocado! I love mine all kinds of ways, but when I'm hangry after a workout, unadulterated with a little bit of salt does just fine! Spread the avo-love!

This is a fascinating question to me: I've always wondered what is the trigger or "switch" for people who succeed in this journey. I do know it is different for everyone, but basically boils down to one thing: when you are soooooo uncomfortable/unhappy leading the life you currently lead, you WILL do something to change…

OMG...MFP needs a LIKE button so bad!! You look like HALF of your former self! Congratulations on facing your demons and winning...you should be so proud of your accomplishments. Best of luck on your marathon!

I quit drinking Diet Coke...a HUGE deal for me. I don't drink any soda or artifically flavored/sweetened drinks at all. It has definitely increased my water intake! LOL

Your journey/pics gave me goosebumps! Congrats on your amazing triathlon finish and even more amazing change of life! You are an inspiration!!

He is an uneducated asshat (has he never heard of compression garments?!?!) and it sounds like he treats his employees as poorly as he treated you. As hard as it is in the moment; try not to take his treatment of you personally....his behavior speaks more about him than it does you. And keep on rocking your program....you…

Welcome back! The great thing about human beings is our neverending capacity to adapt and change! Based on your previous success, you KNOW that you can be successful again :) MFP can be a very positive tool to help you on your journey...I LOVE me a comeback story!!

GREAT post! As for the puppies/babies bit...your cover is blown. You're like a soft boiled egg: hard shell on the outside, all mushy and warm inside. Puppies and babies instinctively get that. ;)

I would require everyone to work in a service industry for a minimum of 1 year...hopefully, it would result in better manners on both sides of the counter. :)

43 and in the best shape of my life! Ran my first 5K last year, did my first 10K in June, ran an Epic Relay in August and am currently training for my first 1/2 next June. I am loving who I have become in my 40s! :)
