Oatmeal, quinoa, raw almonds, walnuts, fresh strawberries, raspberries, apples, bananas, baby carrots, lettuce, frozen chicken breasts, frozen salmon, almond butter, cheese sticks to name a few.

I would try a protein shake with some fruit added in, like a banana or strawberries or frozen berries, whatever you like. It would provide more nutrients (and most likely, less sugar) for you. :)

Adding this to my arsenal of recipes; I haven't ever made it either, but have used the quinoa pasta alot.

What about some strength training specifically targeted to the "trunk"? LOL Squats, etc will help build muscle in that area and "perk" it up too! Men are so funny sometimes!

Congratulations and what an inspiration! I am training to run my first 5K in May, but I'm 42! Maybe with all the knee surgeries that makes us even? LOL At any rate, fantastic job! You should be proud of yourself and your accomplishment!

I would also recommend the C25K program; it's great for beginning runners. I am doing something similar under the direction of a personal trainer and I am training for a 5K. I started by running @ 5mph for 1 min then walking @ 3mph for 1 min, repeating until I finished 3 miles. Then you build on it from there, gradually…

Yes; it is! LOL And you wrote it so eloquently that I just copied, pasted, and added my own tweaks! All this "genetically modified" food freaks me out a little bit...I am trying to eat food in it's natural state, rather than opt for more processed.

These are GREAT! First thread I've read from start to finish; here are mine: I can wiggle my nose two different ways: up and down or wiggle/flare the nostrils I HATE fast food hamburgers and have never eaten a Big Mac or Whopper. As a kid, I used to cry if we had to go to McDonald's. I had never broken a bone UNTIL I went…

I removed most processed food (anything with white flour or sugar or that comes from a box) from my diet. I try to eat mostly whole foods with protein at each meal. I average 5-7 servings of fruit and veggies a day. I eat real fat ... butter, avocado, olive oil, flaxseed, nuts and natural nut butters. I don't eat too many…

I've been wondering the same thing...although I don't have a built in day off yet, I have a crazy busy life (don't we all) with alot of travel, so if I just can't get my work out in, I don't worry about it too much. But, I have to be vigilant that I don't turn one day off into 2, 5, 10 off! LOL Also, if I was to CHOOSE to…

Wow! It's amazing what a difference a 10 lb loss can do! Can you see it when you look at the pictures? Because it is VERY obvious in your belly; I can't believe how much smaller it looks! WTG! I also needed to see these today, because I am on week 2 and was feeling discouraged with my minimal progress...now I can't wait to…

Crockpot Creamy Mexican Chicken...I'm trying out a new (to me) recipe I found on the recipe board here!

I haven't been around long enough to have encountered Mr. or Ms. Snarky, but there's always one in every crowd...and then a whole bunch of bandwagoners who love to post "yeah, what she said", or blah, blah, blah. Opinions are like *kitten*, everyone's got one and some of them stink! I don't mind the whole tough love…

I agree with the previous posters...your sodium is awfully high and your diet seems to be lacking in veggies. FWIW, there are better protein shakes out there with less sodium and more protein. I use one that is egg white based, rather than whey based and although the egg white based are typically higher in sodium (mine has…

Welcome! You'll love it here! :)

Put this in the crockpot for dinner tonight! Thanks for the great recipe!

Bump...and I happen to like cottage cheese, so this should be a go for me! Thanks!
-
Bump...gonna try the pan fried for dinner tonight; I do something similar but usually broil it in the oven! Thanks!
-
Yummmm....going to add this to my arsenal of family friendly recipes! Thanks!

HFCS was originally created to be added to foods to increase their shelf life. It's fairly cheap to produce and use as a replacement ingredient for sugar. It is present in a variety of highly processed foods as well as in other foods you wouldn't expect it, like bread. I am one of those in the "everything in moderation"…

Hi there! I'm Michelle (bet you couldn't have guessed that from my screen name LOL), I'm 42 and just joined MFP this week too! You're gonna love it here; lots of great tools to help you take responsibility for your health choices and a great community full of supportive people. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like;…

Have you tried Almond butter or Cashew butter? Both are YUMMY in my book; but the cashew butter's taste is closer to that of peanut butter. I buy mine at a local health food store...expensive, but a little goes a long ways and NO funky ingredients.

I'm new this week too and am 42. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like! :) You can never have enough cheerleaders!

This blood test was drawn about a week into my lifestyle change...more to have an idea of a starting point so I can recheck it in a few months. So I am hoping my combined diet and exercise changes will be reflected in my next draw's numbers in 2 months. I also have a genetic pre-disposition to the high cholesterol. My mom…

Hey there! Count me in too! I just started this week. I'm 5'5" and currently 153. I would like to lose 23 lbs, but would be thrilled with the first 10. Feel free to friend me and I'd be interested in the challenge as well! :)

How inspiring! You look great!!!

WOW! Great job; you can really notice that 17 lb weight loss!
