What about the people, such as myself, that has lifted heavy in the past and was a competitive swimmer through college? All of my muscle didn't just magically vanish because I gained 25 pounds. It was still there, underneath all of the fat. So for me, utilizing my muscles through body weight resistance and light weights…

I kind of have that problem. I live with my boyfriend and cook for him every night, and we eat out on the weekends. It is really hard to find a happy balance because he is trying to GAIN weight and I'm trying to lose it. Thankfully we've found a happy medium in that we both aim for high protein. I try to center my meals…

I have my net set to 1400 but I don't really look at that. I aim for about 1700 calories a day. I base this on my TDEE (2200-500=1700; 1 pound a week). Some days I'm under, but I make up for it on the weekends. I think our bodies work over longer periods of time than days... My results are probably a little skewed. I used…

142, I weigh 135 now. It has been 5 years since I graduated AND I have grown an inch since then... Whoop whoooo!

Low-fat yogurt, most "healthy" salty snacks: pretzels and popcorn, veggies and fruits, cereal, or anything high in lean protein.

BMI doesn't understand that some people have muscle mass. I was "overweight" for my height only 5 pounds ago, but if you look at my pictures, my pants size (0-2) and my BF% 21.5 you would see that there is no way I am "overweight." I would say it is only a good indicator for those that have a lot of weight to lose. As kind…

I'm 5'3" and 135. I have mine set to 1400. I AIM for more than 1600 calories a day, regardless of exercise. Read up on your BMR and TDEE... NEVER eat below your BMR. For a one pound a week loss aim for 500 calories less than your TDEE. For me (with exercise 3-5 times a week): BMR=1400 TDEE=2200....Therefore I strive to hit…

Thanks! I watched what I ate Mon-Fri. Ran 3x a week, did a different Jillian Michael's video 5x a week (I have 7).

I have somehow managed to turn my "apple" body into an "hourglass" one. Weight: 150: December 2011 Weight: 135: About 2 weeks ago Side by Side: The difference 15 pounds (and EXERCISE) makes! Now just working on losing a little bit all over  That gosh darn lower belly pooch is brutal....

THIS IS MY FAVORITE RECIPE! Copy Cat

No, it doesn't change the growth rate, but it insures that what grows stays there...

Two scrambled eggs (140 cal) and 2 pieces of turkey bacon (50 cal) on a whole wheat tortilla (120). All in all, a 310 calorie breakfast. Add a little salsa for an extra 10 calories for taste. For lunch I eat PB on a mini bagel and a piece of fruit (about 400 cal). Most soups are about 200 calories a can. Salads with lean…

Hair grows back... Ink is permanent (for the most part). Yes, to each his own. I just don't see the point of permanently scarring my body for something I think is "pretty" right now. I have A LOT of objects that I thought were pretty 5 years ago and I hate now. I can't imagine that being on my body.

I LOVE these holier than thou threads....

Personally, I stay away from crystal light, the chemicals in it make me sick. If you don't like plain water, squeeze a lemon in it. Fresh foods are the best, pineapple and melons are high in sugar, however. As for veggies order of quality is fresh-->frozen-->canned. Personally, I eat frozen, it is just easier for me, and…

I log everything, gains and losses. It helps me understand my body better.

Exactly, it is about being healthy, not being "skinny".

you may need some better shoes! go to a running specialty store and they will fit you for a new pair that matches your running stride and such.

LOVE THIS. I met my boyfriend at the gym when I was sweaty, frizzy haired and no makeup. On our first date he was SHOCKED, to say the least, to see how well I cleaned up.

Like playing hooky for a day, or meeting up with someone else? but then again, why would they not tell you they are taking a day off unless they were meeting up with someone....

Personally, when I was a swimmer in college I had the same problem. I had recurring tonsilitis about 3 or 4 times during the course of one year. I've read a lot of literature that explains over exercise being a huge culprit in lowering the immune system. That in combination without proper nutrition (I had the tendency to…

yep. yep. personally, I wouldn't get one unless I had a VERY good sentimental reason to do so.

This. Think calorie dense foods. Or maybe just up your portions in some things.

I've never tried either but I think it is absolutely precious that you two are working together to lose weight

thank you.

Since this is a topic about helping the OP, I figured my personal input would be helpful considering we most likely have a similar TDEE and BMR. The OP has a very similar weight as me (135 lbs.), and my TDEE is 2200 with moderate exercise. That would equate to 1700 calories a day for a one pound a week loss. Anyone within…

Unless you are lifting heavy and getting the proper amount of protein, I doubt you are gaining that much muscle. It takes people YEARS to bulk up and build muscle mass. It doesn't happen as easily as everyone thinks.
