This is a great thread ... It's sad but true that as you change throughout life different friends will come and go. LIfestyle changes can be one way in which friendships can be put under strain. I split with my last boyfriend because of my desire to lead a healthier life. He would never eat breakfast or lunch and then pig…

Wow - very inspirational! Many congratulations to you

You look stunning! I'm an inch taller and 8lbs lighter than you and I don't look anywhre near that good! Where are you carrying the weight?? Lucky you!
-
Yes, you can see the difference in your hips and thighs. Perhaps take some 'side on' pictures of yourself too so you can see your progress in terms of having less 'depth' as well as less 'width' (if you see what I mean!) Great work though - keep it up!

Ohh gawd - penalties ...

I agree with this. There are lots of individual differnces but for me personally, I have to give it up when I'm dieting. Alcohol slows me down, affects my sleep, makes me lose my inhibitions about snacking, and has loads of empty calories.

Well, there are only 6 floor mats in our gym, so what really bugs me is when the personal trainer hogs 3 of them just so he can spread out all the different weights and fit balls he's going to use for his client!

Wow wow wow!!! Well done to one and all! Really inspirational stuff

Inspirational! You should be so proud of yourself

wonderful results - shows what you can do with real determination. Thank you for the inspiration!

Bump - great info :-)

wow! amazing ...

Same for me - you can never get near the free weights area in my gym due to groups of guys training together and shouting encouragement at each other. Good for them, I say. But it's very intimidating for women to go into that part of the gym - a few of us have tried but the guys just ask you how long you're going to use a…

Nice work - great that you have the pictures so you can track your achievement! I am at 160 and now gunning for 145 - am approximately the same height as you - so these are very motivating images. Congratulations to you!

I've got the two body syndrome - top half is an ectomorph, bottom half an endomorph! (Maybe this typology works better for men than women?)

Wow! That's incredible!

Like! When I was 140lbs I would run a 5k 5-6 times a week, drank no alcohol, tea or coffee. When I stopped doing those three things my weight drifted back to my 'usual' 160lbs, even though my total calore intake was still 'only' 1800 (still 200 calories below what is recommended for a female). So it was those three…

Ah, great news! Like the others say - it gives us all hope that it CAN be done!

I'm 45 and have been getting the night sweats and waking up at between 3-4 am regularly. What I found helped me was going to bed really late (like 1-2am) and then I can usually sleep through till 7-8am. Not a great habit but at least I can now get 6 hours uninterrupted sleep, rather than just a couple of hours here and…

Thanks for doing this Debs  I'm 45 and think I'm starting peri. The main symptoms for me at the moment are: i) a shortening cycle and ii) bad insomnia in the 2-3 days leading up to the start of my period. The second symptom interferes the most with my weight loss plans. When I don't get enough sleep I get terrible…

She's something else isn't she?! She's just my cyber kitty though - I found her while googling and she reminded me of what I look like when I sit down! I'm also not very overweight but really don't like the extra 20lbs I've been carrying around since hitting my 40s :ohwell:

Such a great thread - I don't think we need to do anything formal to start the group. If we just keep posting here when we feel like we want support - or have some tips to share with others - then it'll just keep rolling. I was thinking that as well as our physical peri/post menopausal symptoms, many of us are at a stage…

Interesting posts about how our metabolism slows down so much! I'd always assumed I could eat 2000 calories for maintenance - no way! These days 1600-1700 is the max if I don't want to gain weight. So that means 1100-1200 net calories for any weight loss - very very tough to sustain that for the couple of months necessary…

Well for the last year I've been gettng terrible insomnia in the two-three days leading up to my period. And if I don't get enough sleep I tend to over eat the next day. So on top of the usual monthly carb-cravings I get an extra dose of over eating which is related to the lack of sleep, I think. So while I might be a…

Thanks guys, just a bit worried I've been over optimisitc about how many calories I'm burning It's a kind of circuit training thing - 10 minutes running on the treadmill, 10 minutes free weights arms and upper body 10 minutes cycling 10 minutes strength training lower body 10 minutes on the elliptical 10 minutes core,…

My polar F6 is "water resistant" to 30 m, so yes, I guess you could swim in it.
-
Yeah, I was a bit surprised reading that it doesn't work for strength training :ohwell: I suppose I could just pause it when I'm doing the weight training segments of my work out and that would give me the 'pure' cardio readouts. Think that would probably drop my calorie expenditutre down by about a 100 calories. That…

Just been re-reading this thread and wanted to say that this (^^^the above^^^) is just excellent advice in relation to the psychological aspects of dieting (and life in general actually!). I know that I tend to think I've either done 'good' things or 'bad' t'hings with my diet and that my time frame and expectations are…

Interesting!! I've actually noticed that if I have one or two 'normal' days a week I tend to lose weight more effectively than sticking rigidly to low calorie (1200-1400) every day. Didn't know it was called zig-zagging! Might give it a go more formally ...

Thanks for the advice ! A bit of variety in my exercise routine is much needed I think! And thanks to other posters for points-of-view, diet / exercise tips etc - I think just accepting that 2lbs a month is a worthwhile and realistic goal is a big step forward for me ...
