  • You weren't being passive-aggessive. You were being aggressive - words like "stupid" certainly tend to be interpreted that way, especally when "stupid" really would be ignoring a HUGE subset of people with metabolic disorders. And, no, coming back later with lolz and "If it's a medical necessity that's a different story"…
  • Two recent studies (well, within the last 10 years) are inconsistent in their results. The ACCORD trial was stopped early because higher mortality (death) was found in the group who had maintained the HAIC less than 6%. However, many of the deaths were subsequently attributes to the use of Avandia, The ADVANCE trial showed…
  • Weird. I also worked for a nephrologist/endocrinologist and he was quite the champion of low-carb diets. His focus was on staving off kidney disease due to uncontrolled diabetes though. The cardiologist in the practice was also a proponent of low-carb. Sucked because they took out the vending machine in the building.
  • Did you miss that the OP has blood sugar issues? Carbs in the form of grains and fruits are the last thing someone with blood sugar issues needs. Op, I also sugggest some additional salt and fat - broth (especially homemade) is good. Reducing your carb level slowly will also help the flu symptoms. Good luck
  • OH PLEASE! PCRM is absolutey the officious-sounding "medical" arm of PETA http://www.ncahf.org/articles/o-r/pcrm.html PCRM leader, Neal Barnard, MD, has been identified as medical adviser to the radical animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and PCRM may be substantially funded by…
  • I did NOT hear Dr Bernstein saying he can reverse diabetes. What I did hear him say was that many diabetics who come to him think they are doing fine with slightly elevated blood sugars - say, in the 100's like you, perhaps - but upon testing, they show signs of complications. After a year or so of the VLC diet, they show…
  • John McDougall - a proud member of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine? IMO, McDougall, Joel Fuhrman and Neal Barnard are bigger quacks with lower ethics than that shill Oz. All 3 claim that their diets "reverses" diabetes and that alone should be enough to warn away the hopeful. The PCRM hides its entire…
  • Fuhrman, McDougall and Barnard are bigger quacks with lower ethics than that shill Oz. Barnard is a psychiatrist writing diet books?????? The PCRM hides its entire agenda behind a curtain bearing the intentionally vague "Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine" name because it knows that in general, people are…
  • China has almost four times as many people with diabetes than the U.S., where there are 23.7 million sufferers, according to the IDF. By 2030, 40 million more will have the condition in China, where diabetes causes 173.4 billion yuan ($28 billion) a year in medical costs, the diabetes group estimates. The number of people…
  • The focus in your diabetic class should have been to limit/avoid starchy foods because starchy and/or sugary foods raise blood sugar. Food, in general, does not cause weight gain. Too much food causes weight gain. Too many carbs raise blood sugar. And carbuncles are caused by a staph infection. It is quite possible to be a…
  • Normal blood sugar range is 70-100. Readings above 100 are considered "pre-diabetic" My doctor says that pre-diabetes is like being a little bit pregnant. I had a reading of 105 and he was all over the "reduce your carbs immediately" More importantly, td, what does your doctor say?
