pistol squats would be king if you can do them.

hold a front plank for 30 seconds and you'll know exactly what you need to do. It may restrict your breathing slightly because you cant relax and expand your ribcage the same. but with some practise you will get more comfortable.

you might also try goblet squats or front barbell squats or zercher squats. The weight in front counter balances you and you can sit back better and keep a more verticle shin which is preferable for knee health. If you get bored look up mike westerdal's website and have a look at "fix my knee pain"

For lifting I would recommend a program like stronglifts 5x5. pretty simple and time efficient. Its also more of an easy strength mentality. Personally I like to preach Kettlebell training like "Simple and Sinister". It works for my high mileage joints that dont like lifting anymore.

It is right. When you tense your core you dont have as much room to expand your abdomen and get full breaths. Its called breathing under the shield.

12kg and 16kg kettlebell + the book "simple and sinister"

Imho you're better off exercizing so you dont loose too much muscle and kill your metabolism. Then you would get a few more colories to eat as a side benefit. I like kettlebells personally for good cardio and strength benefits with a minimum time investment.

I would encourage you to have a look at "Yoga for Regular Guys/Gals" by DDP. He started yoga because he had herniated discs.

You may also beable to use a kettlebell program like Simple and Sinister (which I'm on) I've had problematic knees that kept me from doing some other things but this is working well for me.

Im not a doctor but If it was me I would look into core exercises. I dont know how strong you are but it could be that your core is to weak to properly support your spine. Yoga would be a good starting place IMHO. Personally I like YRG "Yoga for regular guys/gals"

Yup I'm doing Simple and Sinister by Pavel tsatouline (spg?) He is the fellow who is primarily resposible for bringing kettlebells to the west. Great 30 minute workout. you might check out Strongfirst's website for more info.

I personally have had some kneecap area pain and swelling And have been using a Workout called "Simple and Sinister" which comes from the folks at Strongfirst. Kettlebells are very forgiving but quite challenging on a number of levels. I've been on that for 6 weeks or so and have noticed a reduction in pain and stiffness…
