  • Just in the last week or so, my hips are definitely feeling smaller. Plus, in recent months my boxers had been squeezing me, but they'd started squeezing me gradually so I hadn't really noticed until I started to count my calories. This morning I put my underpants on and they definitely feel a little looser. Interesting! :)
  • This bit just registered: I honestly had no idea that you need to lose more slowly as you lose weight. That is interesting. And I'm losing at the right speed too? Hm. I thought I was being a slow turtle. :) I guess I shouldn't rush myself!
  • @kyrannosaurus I'm glad. :) I obsess over my deficit too, and I get impatient and want instant weight loss results, when I *should* be obsessing over my protein intake. It's tough for me to get enough protein, and when I don't get enough for a few days I start to feel really rough, so I have to focus on that a lot. If I…
  • That's a thought, sometimes I have to guess my food. Perhaps I'm overestimating. I've read the posts that say that people tend to underestimate calorie consumption, but when I've caught myself getting it wrong I've tended to overestimate. @editorgrrl I'm not sure I understand that bit. Do you mean we should be aiming for…
  • I'm just resurrecting this post and laughing, because after ignoring MFP while I was recovering from a couple of surgeries I am back on the wagon and losing just under .25kg (about .5 lb) per week. :D It just seems so piddly small compared to the weight loss people on here talk about aiming for! But, now that I read back…
  • Thanks everyone, really helpful! :) So I'll just happily not log my strength training, because I'm still at the Weedy Weed level, and I take lots of rests, and chances are the calorie burn count would be inaccurate. @editorgrrl Thanks! I am pretty familiar with the negative calorie burn and Fitbit and stuff. I've had my…
  • I've never seen my weight loss slow from eating too few calories - but I have been so close to my goal weight and my deficit is always really small! On that note, it might be worth mentioning that if my deficit is too big (more than 100 kcal per day), I feel very hungry and tired and miserable, and I end up eating snacks…
  • It is awesome! My only complaint is you spelled "medication" wrong in the lowest blue box - it says "metication". :)
  • I've found that if I don't eat back at least some of my exercise calories I tend to eat more and go over my calorie goals the next day, so it kinda balances out in the end. I'd definitely rather eat the calories on the day I'm using them, but that's my personal preference.
  • Ohhhhh this seems totally relevant to my new favourite social network: Bristlr. Here's a referral link, the benefit being if you sign up using it then I get to see who's hearted me: www.bristlr.com/?referral=cassolotl
  • My weight doesn't bounce around very much at all. Mayyyyybe .5kg in a day? I don't know why there's not much fluctuation. Maybe it's just because I'm pretty slim to begin with. But yeah, I am prepared for fluctuations. :) I don't weigh myself every day any more, I'm very much an overall trends kind of measurer. Edit:…
  • Hey how about we stop assuming that people need educating on their own food intolerances and actually answer the original question? If you're not GF and DF, go awayyyy.
  • I own only sports bras, no regular bras, and I don't work out at all.
  • My clothes were getting tight and I didn't want to buy new ones. Plus I like how my body felt when I was a little thinner and this extra fat is unfamiliar and weird. At one point I wanted to lose weight in order to have smaller breasts (I'm transgender in a masculine direction), but now I'm having chest reconstruction…
  • If I were in your place I'd leave it for another time, but that's me. I just wouldn't be capable, and life is not always going to be full of terminally ill loved ones - take time to care for yourself, and if that's counting calories and exercising then great, and if that's deep-fried cheese flavoured ice cream then great.…
  • I had Implanon and I gained weight; after about a year with no side effects it all piled on. My GP said it was because it can make you gain weight - she said a maximum of 3lbs was as a result of the implant itself directly, and also some people feel hungry all the time with it in. I asked how to deal with that, and she…
  • Re: tofu, I found out that soya beans (what tofu is made from) are more protein-dense! So I don't bother with tofu any more. :)
  • 900 per day seems pretty low to me. I'm 170cm, 61kg or so, and I have a deficit of 150 per day - I usually end up eating about 1500 calories per day. Okay so I'm intending to lose verrrrry slowly, but generally speaking I've only ever heard of people going under 1000 per day under medical supervision.
  • I vastly prefer vegan food, but sometimes I eat meat or cheese or eggs or something because it's what's available. If people ask, I'll just say, "I prefer vegan food, but sometimes I've just got to not be vegan for whatever reason. Most of my meals are vegan."
  • Kinda upset at all the people asking "are your breasts *really* that big?" and saying "you don't need surgery, you need therapy!" (Okay so maybe people don't use those exact words, but that's what's being said.) If the OP says they're suffering due to the size of their breasts, and they hate them, let's not assume they're…
  • That is really really horrible and I am so sorry you've had to go through that. I've gone through something similar-ish. Also I'm transgender, 28, and about to have chest reconstruction surgery to remove all breast tissue, so I know how hard you have to fight for necessary surgery sometimes. (I'm in the UK, so maybe our…
  • I am not a man but I feel qualified to join in. :) I had a girlfriend who wore skirts with jeans underneath and she made it look really good. As usual, I am controversial. :P
  • If I had a 200 kcal smoothie for breakfast I'd be craving sweets and carbs all day. Sugary smoothies don't fill me up properly. I try to go for a bit of fruit and a lot of protein and that usually works well.
  • Not only is that a hideously transphobic post, but I know plenty of people who would not be put off by that, myself included! I'd be like, alright cool. :)
  • Weight loss isn't meant to be a steady gradual decline, right? Average it out from when you started losing weight. What have you got per week then? Edit: 8kg in 3 months is just over half a kg per week. That's totally fine and good, no?
  • Liiiies! Water isn't inherently cleansing or healthy or magically wonderful compared to other fluids. Other fluids are mostly water anyway. Calorie-free drinks include tea - I really like fresh mint leaves and honey in hot water but it can be a faff unless you've got a mint plant somewhere nearby. A little bit of honey…
  • My understanding is that weight lifting during weight loss is important so you don't lose muscle along with the fat - but I got all that from these forums, so, pinch of salt and all that.
  • Post-injury cosmetic surgery is definitely a thing. I know someone who had a "nose job" because he couldn't breathe properly, and his nose looked more normal afterwards because surgeons care what their work looks like. Chest reconstruction for transgender people, breast cancer survivors, burn victims, etc etc.…
  • Nah, the NHS wouldn't give her liposuction if she didn't want to eat better and lose weight and stuff. If this article is accurate (and that is very unlikely), the NHS wouldn't spend money on her if they thought she wouldn't make lifestyle changes. There is a lot of scare-mongering about people on benefits in the UK, in…
