I second that recommendation. Those are good, they remind me a bit of pumpkin pie. Definitely worth a try. Edit: don't know how the pie would taste using refried (probably pinto) beans.

You can send them to me! I love refried beans, but sadly I can't get them out here. Anyway, you can try this recipe. I've tried one similar to this and it was good, this one also has good reviews. You can omit the extra beans if you want a less beany meal. http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/fast-refried-bean-soup Also you…

I really, really want to make this but I don't have a crock-pot nor have I been able to find one where I live. Is there any way to adapt this to stove-top or something else? Thanks :)

Made this today for dinner, it was super good. Thank you :)

I have used this one below many times. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1212473-thai-style-peanut-sauce The exact amount I personally use for 1 person are: 30g Peanut Butter 2TB Soy Sauce 2g brown sugar 8g crushed garlic Add water to taste and consistency. It comes out to 206 cals but may be a bit different…

I love eggs, I like to make stuffed pita breads. You just scramble up some eggs and stuff them in a warm pita bread with veggies (bell peppers and mushrooms are my favs), cheese, meat, and some salsa.

Has anyone come across this bit of info yet: http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2014/08/28/u-s-hikes-fee-to-renounce-citizenship-by-422/ Not sure if OK to post links on here so in case it gets removed, its an article about a HUGE increase in fees to renounce US citizenship. I know not all of us are seeking to do this…

The only thing I use lard for is tortillas. I just can't get them to taste right no matter what I try to substitute it with.

This would be perfect to put in muffin liners and include in my lunch box. Thanks!

I love brussels sprouts, sriracha, and aioli. I am always on the look-out for yummy ways to eat veggies that are different from my typical boil then butter routine. Thank you!

Hmmm, here are a few ideas that I would do: Take some of the fruit (berries, mango, apricots, etc) he can eat and some coconut milk and make a smoothie. A salad with the lettuce, dandelion greens, sprouts, carrots, cucumber, sunflower seeds and any other salad veggie that is ok. Toss with a bit of lemon juice, olive oil,…

I really did laugh out loud when I saw this, I replayed Morrowind a while back and modded those things right out. Anyway I love RPGs. My fav ones are: Planescape: Torment- best story telling ever, even if graphics are dated. Neverwinter Nights 2- great story and characters. Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim- All have pros and…

I'm currently reading The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett and One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights). Started One Thousand and One Nights earlier this year, on night number 433. I started re-reading some of my Pratchett books during vacation.

So I passed my test and now have my Norwegian license, just thought I would give this another positive update in case anyone is still following this thread :)

Strawberries have been on sale here too so I've picked up a bunch myself. I freeze them for smoothies later on. First, I rise and chop them in half (if they are the big ones) then pat them dry. After that I weigh them out and mark the weight on a ziplock bag (makes for easier logging later on). Then just stick them in the…

I was just thinking the other day how much I miss applesauce and how useful it would be to have out here. Thanks for the recipe, I will definitely try it out! :)

Here in Norway I have noticed that people need to drink in order to be social. Especially around me, because they will most likely have to use their English if they talk about anything except the weather or something basic like that. Every single Norwegian I have met thinks they speak horrible English, when they speak it…

When I was a student, one of my favourite quick and cheap breakfasts were egg, cheese, and black bean burritos. Basically, pick up some tortillas, add some black beans (you can use canned but dried beans are dirt cheap), some cheese, a scrambled egg or two, and a bit of salsa. Best thing about these is that you can make a…

Have you tried leeks? They do have an oniony taste but are much more mild. I use them in pasta and lighter sauces when I don't want an overpowering onion taste. Different types of onions do have different tastes. I find yellow onions to be the most strong tasting, then red onion. Sweet or Vidalia onions are the most mild.…

UPDATE! So I got a letter in the mail today from the Norwegian State Road Service and I was granted my exchange! Yay :) So, now I have until Sept 4th to pass the practical test. Whew, thats a load off. Now to focus on mastering some of the new Norwegian driving rules.

Huh... interesting that people bring up drivers licenses. I just turned mine in to be exchanged 3 weeks ago and was going to follow up on it this week. I have been quite stressed over it. When I got married last summer I took my husbands name. I changed my name on everything, passport, SS card... everything except my…

Hei alle sammen! My name is Tatiana, originally from Redondo Beach, California but have lived all over the US. Moved to Ørsta, Norway a little over a year ago. Married my Norwegian husband in June 2013. Currently attending language classes and plan on doing volunteer work soon. Hope to have enough of the language down by…

Don't forget about state taxes (if you are unlucky enough to be from a state that has them). There are no exemptions for state taxes. Most states once you move overseas and pick up residence there will consider you not a resident of that state anymore. However, some states like California, will require you to prove that…

I can't believe how similar all this sounds. I moved here to be with my fiancée (now husband). The pros vastly outweighed the cons for me as well. Especially when after I finished/was finishing graduate school, I applied for hundreds jobs over about a year and a half (all over the country) and got 1 interview for a temp…

Hey, I am an expat living in Norway too! I moved here a little over a year ago and married a Norwegian. I am going to language classes now, so I still have a ways to go before I get permanent residence or citizenship (and yes, Norway doesn't allow dual citizenship). I don't post often but it would be nice to have some…

When I am craving something sweet I usually have a Graham cracker sheet with a bit of honey or chocolate hazelnut spread (Nutella or something similar) on it. It`s about 100 calories depending on the brand of cracker and how much spread you use.

I made a soup tonight based on this one that you posted and it was very good (I didn't have all the ingredients for the original on hand). Thank you for the inspiration. :)

I am an American who lives in Europe and can't get American pancakes out here. They all look like the ones in your picture. So whenever I crave pancakes from back home I make these ones which taste spot on: http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/american-breakfast-pancakes-141

I used to sprinkle some smoked paprika on top of mine. I didn't have a microwave so I just put 3 kernels with a tiny bit of oil in a pan on the stove, waited until those popped. Then added the rest of kernels in, covered the pan, then carefully shook and tossed the pan over the burner until the popping slowed down. Sadly I…
