Most "runners" i know are NOT technically runners. Running is a gate where BOTH feet are not in contact with the ground for parts of the stride. I think that Jogging just sounded un-cool, so they adopted "running" to describe their 15 minute miles. I think that its generally accepted that jogging is a slow run. If you…

No thanks. I enjoy eating pork and red meat. BTW. Most keyboards have a "caps lock" key. yours seems to be defective.

I did exactly the same thing for years. When it got to the point where I felt that I NEEDED to do something, my wife and I joined MFP and i started to actually track what I eat (ouch).. I could justify eating 4-5 pieces of chicken from popeyes and part of a side item, after all.. i did not eat all day.. I could talk myself…

agreed, but would add: 4. over measuring calorie burn from exercise. its a pretty simple formula.. if you consume more than you burn, you gain.. burn more than consumption and you lose. we can be pretty accurate on consumption, as long as you enter ANY food or drink you consume and are realistic about the quantities. we…

I learned early into this journey that I could not trust my instincts either.. lol. I remember going into a restaurant my step-sons works for.. I ordered a tiny filet, green beans for the side, and it came with a side salad.. I was patting myself on my back.. thinking I just ordered a pretty darn healthy meal…

I will throw a slightly different pitch.. if hes 300lbs and has not worked out, I would advise seeing a GOOD personal trainer and a visit to his Dr.. get clearance from the doc to make sure there are no health issues to consider. seeing a qualified personal trainer that can perform an analysis specific to your husband…

very true.. that graphic artist was not a squatter.. the knees, look at the head position when at the bottom (plus not deep enough for me).. in addition, would get better engagement of posterior chain if lift started with hip raise. Rippletoe would also advise to carry the bar much lower. LOL that is too much fun from one…

I admit that I am strange. LOL. I am originally from New Orleans, and we have a strong food culture. We consider ourselves more like a European city that happens to be located in the southern US, than like the surrounding states On point 1. I agree completely. my wife and I will see what is fresh, and looks appealing..…

just two doors down.. I know Matt and Roli from Westside MMA.. Roli is actually the guy that let me to Ross strength and speed.. he trained there before his professional fights after being on "the ultimate fighter".

I have not really analyzed this much. I have a feeling that its about the same, perhaps a tiny bit more expensive but then again I feel that being healthy is worth it (Not to mention that I probably make up any potential difference with lower expenditures in medical care)

I wear sandals with black socks.. I think it gives a "euro" feel to the gym. LOL

Not sure.. I still like the sound of "Love Carbs". LOL

I can help. I should be eating a meal that matches that request and can take a pic of the receipt with my phone if that helps you.. I admit I will have to google "Love Carbs" I am guessing that chocolate is in that category, but it does sound a bit naughty. lol. ok.. I "think" you mean a fresh recipe, with LOW carbs. for…

Here is how I tell.. a) put on HRM prior to workout b) hit "start" or equivalent button. c) workout d) hit "stop". write down number, add it to MFP. e) eat back maintenance calories, plus workout calories minus 1,000 (or whatever deficit you use) repeat every day. if i drop weight.. then I would say its accurate.. if I…

They must have secret labs where they TRY to cram in extra calories. I dont eat fast food except rare occasions now. i do not get that many cheat meals and hate to waste one on that, when I can have something much tastier. I have been on business trips where the only thing open when my red-eye lands is fast food, and the…

Quick question.. does she run to the rest room after eating the whole pizza, and come back to the table looking for a breath mint? a cheat meal 10% of the time is ok, and my wife and I do it with success.. eating whole pizza's multiple times in a weekend does not make sense to me. I know that Dr. John Berardi (precision…

but that is OK.. I assume if he wants to gain, that he would prefer to gain lean mass and not get fat. lol.. if so.. the main thing that would change is the portion size. still eat lean meat sources and lots of veggies, some (good) fat should be there from olive oil, avocado, etc.. sugars and starchy carbs should be…

I am a fan of Dr. John Berardi (precision nutrition) and in particular his view on carbs. simply stated, starchy carbs are allowed during the following two situations: a) cheat meals.. (his program has you eating clean approx 90% of the time, and the other 10% are cheat meals) b) right after a high intensity workout. (not…

My wife and I did the same thing. When we met, we were both at peace with being single and were enjoying our lives. once we got together, we shared good times and good food, and I love to cook. so we put on weight. I actually got married at something north of 265, not sure how much actually as I avoided the scale like the…

I cant do it.. lol. I think of pizza as a treat, but I have to have something on it that had parents. I am a meat eater and eat pretty clean 85% of the time. I go to a local joint. all fresh, very yummy. hand made thin crust. my favorite is Pepperoni, black olives, canadian bacon, Feta and provolone.. darn. I am drooling…

I think the healthiest is Skips pizzza. Lean people seem to skip pizza LOL. Seriously, I Love pizza but transformed it from a regular menu item to a treat. I prefer a local place that makes good fresh pizza with quality ingredients.

Gigli. with Ben affleck.. damn. I am going to have nightmares for even letting that terrifying movie enter my head. be afraid. be VERY afraid

I approach this from a different angle.. you asked how many calories burned while lifting weights.. To me, "lifting weights" is WAY too vague, its HOW you are Lifting. for example, lets look at four people "lifting weights": subject A) 3 exercises, 3 sets each and using isolated exercises (e.g. bicep curls, tricep…

Two comments: a) do you know what the call the person in medical who graduates with the worst GPA? Doctor.. Just because they are an MD does not make them brilliant. b) They receive virtually no training on diet (much less exercise) in medical school. My doctor happens to be a competitive athlete, so I am more inclined to…

very sad that people are so rude and making personal attacks. Her question was quite valid and she is seeking advice. Many of us on this site do have issues with body image, but we can try to come at things from a position of knowledge and understanding instead of acting like children. BMI does apply to people in the very…

i agree with the above poster.. start with the basics and double check your calorie intake and your burn. I think that being too low is almost as bad as being too high. also make sure you are drinking enough water, and your sodium is in check.. tell me more about your workouts.. is it only jogging? Is so, I would highly…

but that is the point.. he is asking about intense cardio work. with a HIT type workout like P90X, you are lifting but it is also very intense from the cardio load perspective. I can say that i use the number, but did not eat it all back, from my HRM and it would be a large number when I first started it and my numbers are…

some people lash out at others because of the hurt they have experienced. I think this poor tortured soul has been hurt and that was a coping mechanism. Since you noted he was in a tricked out honda, My guess is that one or more people engaged in an intimate situation with this poor chap, and when they laughed out loud at…

I agree with the above poster.. Cosgrove (co-author of new rules of lifting ) does a great job of outlining the routines, and the exercises. Another thing that I like is that they show progressions for exercises so you can start at a beginner level and modify as you get more time under your belt. One thing that many new…
