The only thing I can think of that might truly qualify for "empty" calorie status is alcohol, which I don't see them even addressing in this article (maybe I missed it?). Also, I think it's sacrilege to put bacon on that list. Bacon is most certainly not empty calories. Bacon calories are delicious, wonderful calories. :)

I would say whatever you pick, be consistent with it. USDA website has info both cooked and raw so you can accurately track. I weigh my food cooked but I know others do it differently.

I quit cold turkey 4 years, 1 month and 10 days ago. It sucks for the first 1-2 weeks, no way around that. My husband quit cold turkey as well 3 months before me. It is possible.

I died a little inside when I measured peanut butter for the first time. Same with ice cream.

As others have said, plan and pre-log and you'll get the hang of it. To get adequate protein aim to have a protein source at every meal. I would look into protein powders or bars as supplementation if you aren't particularly fond of meat so you aren't choking down chicken and eggs all day long. :)

I run a chain of auto repair shops so I hear ignorant stuff on the reg, but the most annoying is when people ask me how it's possible that I could know anything about a car, because, you know, I'm a girl (like I don't know this already). Not kidding, I get asked that probably once a week on average. It used to piss me off,…

I'm a woman and I love lifting. I used to only be all about cardio, until I shattered an ankle so I started seriously lifting. Now my ankle is healed and all I do is lift with the occasional cardio sesh and I'm in better shape than I've been in my whole life, plus I can eat a whole hell of a lot more food. So basically I…

with my old crockpot I used it on a light timer to control how long food cooked for because it would burn the crap out of everything if I left it in for 9-10 hours, even on low. I can't recommend that enough. It's way cheaper than buying a programmable crockpot (which I eventually bought when my hubs cracked the crock on…

Born and raised a Hawks fan, so duh, GO HAWKS!!!! :)

I just bought a 6 pack bag meal management system and the containers that they come with are literally the best "tupperwares" I have ever used. It's not cheap, but you can buy their containers without buying the bag ($24.99/6 containers). I decided to order more because it puts all the inexpensive containers to shame.

I don't try to overcome the cravings. I make the ice cream fit into my day and enjoy it. :) If portion control is a problem, get a husband or kid that will find your ice cream stash and eat the rest before you have a chance for seconds, like obscure said. My husband is a star at eating up my ice cream stashes.

I'd say it really depends on your genetics. Mine never shrink below a solid C cup, even as my BF is lower than it's ever been (~22%). I'm thinking of competing in a bodybuilding competition in the next 2 years, so if I do then BF will go even lower, boobs may or may not go with it. I'm ok with it either way. I can always…

Wear em proud! I love mine. :)

Weight training definitely will help strengthen your knees, just be careful and I'd definitely wear an open patella brace to protect your knee cap. I had lots of knee problems as a teenager and my problems are now nonexistent, thanks in part to weight training and strengthening the muscles to help hold your kneecaps in…

For the record, I think your pictures on your profile look great! You seem like you know a thing or 2 about fitness/weight loss, so I'm sure you don't need to be told that you can't spot reduce, blah blah. Getting rid of the last little bit of body fat from wherever it is (for me, my tummy. For you, your thighs and butt)…

I work 10-12 hour days, commute depends on where I work (I travel locally 1-2 days a week for work, so anywhere from 20 minutes to 90 minutes each way), on workout days during the work week I use a crockpot to make dinner so I don't have to actually make dinner when I get home but have something to put on the table. I also…

Another vote here to lead by example. My husband is on again off again about his fitness journey whereas I am more consistent than him but when I'm off at the gym most evenings and he sits at home before too long he will join me. As far as diet goes, I cook most of our meals. If he doesn't like what I make, he's a big boy…

A small surplus (+300 calories) worked really well for me and have been gaining about 1.5-2 pounds a month since i started my bulk. TBH a few weeks or a month isn't really a great indicator of whether the bulk is working or not, especially when there's usually a water weight fluctuation in the first few weeks of upping…

You can add me. I love what IIFYM is all about. It's made me a much healthier relationship with food and I've finally learned how to eat balanced and still enjoy treats.

Fractured my foot fighting my husband for the remote. I won. That would be the most stupid. I also shattered my left ankle trying to cross the monkey bars at the warrior dash in 2013. I went to let go, looked down, saw the muddy water and figured I was good to go. NOPE. I caught the edge of my toe on the bank…

I wouldn't sweat less than a half pound in 2 days. Water weight can make you fluctuate +/- up to 5 pounds in a day, so .4 pounds isn't anything significant at all. Stick to the process and see what happens. Throwing the towel in after 2 days and a .4 gain is like slashing your tire because it was down 5 pounds on air.

5'5" CW: 147ish I no longer have a goal weight, I just want to be super strong and lift all the weights. I wear a size 6 and eat like a horse (bulking) so I have no problem with the number on the scale. I will cut 8-10 pounds of fat starting in January to find the muscles I've been building. :) Really though, no real goal…

this. ETA: If I'm doing cardio and weights in the same day (which is rare, since I don't do much cardio) I have to do weights first or I just simply do not have the energy to lift heavy. If I have anything left in the tank, I'll follow up with some cardio. But I don't care for it, I just do it for my ticker health. I like…

ED's have been around for longer than the internets have been around so I don't get how one would blame a tool like this, or blame chat rooms when ED's are a mental disease. I had friends who battled ED's when we were in junior high nearly 20 years ago, and they didn't get have them because they were logging foods on MFP…

Holla! I love that movie. Seen it too many times. I sing the theme song all the time.

Keep doing what you're doing, you're doing it right. I know it sounds like it's a long ways off, but as you continue to change and shrink and get stronger as you lift and lose, you'll see results (just keep taking progress pictures, it's really cool to watch your body change since you can't really see it looking…

I would hate on someone pretty hard if they told me to cut coffee from my life. lol I just cut out some of the calorie bombs that I put in it but not the coffee. I drink my coffee black now, and my occasional treat is a white chocolate Americano (95 calories) instead of a white chocolate mocha (400 calories).

You're stressing out about one binge way too much and your reaction of trying to exercise it off isn't healthy. Also, your posting history points to the fact that you have a very damaged and unhealthy relationship with food and your body.

Seeeeeeeehawks! Since the Kingdome days, through the good, the bad and the ugly.
