Thanks to all of you who have responded with thoughts and suggestions. I was hoping for a variety of opinions to help me zero in on a personal plan. Right now I am considering skipping the rest week after phase one and going straight to phase two. The way P90X is set up you continue the leg and back routine even in the…

There are a number of good trail running shoes that work very well on pavement too. I use La Sportiva Widcats and have used Asics 2100 series in the past. Both are great for your purpose. You can check trail runningf shoe reviews at Rinners World and others and find many trail shoes that are more than adequate for…

Good one Stooooo

Stooooo I'm glad you explained your position more thoroughly. I completely understand your reaction to people criticizing P90X or Beach Body based on problems caused elsewhere. I am particularly glad that you specified that the one particular problem that you encountered was from Amazon marketplace, not Amazon direct. I…

I used to exercise in the morning before eating anything and had good results losing weight, but as you probably already know I found out that I was losing weight by cannibalizing muscle. Not good! Now I always have some carbs (a banana) before exercise and carb/protien at a 4 to 1 ratio afterwards. I'm not losing weight…

I started using MFP after I bought a new smartphone and downloaded the MFP app. So I log as I eat using the cell or home/work computer, wherever I am at the time. I never though of budgeting ahead, but that may have possibilities for me. As some of you do I could budget my day then modify during the day as needed.…

Purchased from Amazon P90X comes with all materials - same as if purchased from Beach Body. BUT, if you purchase from the Amazon marketplace beware! You may get it cheap but you may get bootleg copies, get shorted on the materials, etc. BIG difference in Amazon purchase and purchase from Amazon marketplace!

Wednesday 3/30/11: Raining out so I did two P90X workouts back to back. Arms and Shoulders plus Plyo-X. Whew! Ladies, I could use some advice. My wife wants me to buy her some workout dvd's to help her get back started with exercise. With her permission I share that she is probably 50 lbs overweight and has knee, ankle,…

Tuesday 3/29/11: AM - Trail Run - Done, PM - Road Bike - Done Glad to get some outdoor activities in today, rain coming tomorrow. On Wednesday I'll probably do AM P90X Arms and Shoulders, PM Plyo-X. My legs felt tired this morning but better this afternoon. Seems strange but I'm glad for the "better" part. Anyone taking a…

Monday 3/28/11: The weather rained out my plans to run in the AM and road bike in the PM so I did two P90X workouts; legs and back plus chest and back. Too many pull ups! Tomorrow I run regardless but will only ride if it is clear. Maybe I'll do plyo instead of biking if it rains. I’m really not afraid to ride in the rain,…

Friday 3/25/11: AM Trail Run - Done, PM Road Bike - Done I might also add: Legs - Done! I don't know how I'm going to do P90X Legs and Back in the morning, I'm toast. Hope some sleep tonight will help.

When I read your comment in the AM I was resistant to your suggertion but now after completing my two-a-days (actually three today) I have to seriously consider more rest. I am off work Friday and Saturday so have the opportunity for some serious exercise time, but my body is so tired that I can't take full advantage. I…

I'm another yoga hater. Love plyo, love shoulders and arms, have a love hate relationship with legs and back - lhate the workout but love the results.

Thursday 3/24/11 - Got in two exercises this AM again. P90X arms and shoulders was my planned AM workout then I had to take my car in for service so I road my bike home which will replace my PM ride. Short ride but I averaged two mph faster than normal so that worked out. My wife just called and wants to do a "hill walk"…
i have a huge park i live right next too, and it looks absolutely majestic at night time, with the full moon towering over it, and the lights giving off a pale yellow glow, lighting up my path, no one else about to watch me as a i drum along to the songs on my play list!
Good for you! I appreciate anyone…

I wanted to add an additional thought. Yes, one can wisely alternate muscle groups and do cardio on back to back days, but, taking one full rest day a week is still helpful. Some serious studies have shown that exercise is just another type of stress to one's physiology and health is enhanced by periodic full rest. At one…

Thanks for the info on HSN, I'll be ordering soon. Looking forward to intense but shorter routines than P90X.

You have one twin here, now you have an anti-twin! I love to exercise in the AM. That way nothing stops me. If I wait till after work there is a 50% chance something will grab the time - new project at work, someone at work is sick, wife requires something, etc. Actually I do two-a-days, but the most important exercise of…

I alternate days running and cycling. Both give me a good cardio workout, but running uses the hamstrings while cycling uses the quads. So I cardio train six day a week, but rest one muscle group each day while training the other. The two exercises complement each other beautifully. I strength train three days a week with…

I have not tried Supreme 90 but have read all the reviews I can find. Apparently it has lower production quality than P90X (what do you expect for $20?) But reviewers love it. The work outs are great - challenging but shorter than P90X. No pull ups; it uses ball exercises instead. They saved money by doing things like…

I love to run but I also love to cycle. I know not everyone wants to cycle or will spend the money for a good bike, but it is great cross training for running. Running primarialy use the hamstrings and cycling uses the quads so switching the two up allows the muscles to rest while strengthening the corresponding muscles.…

I guess I am an interloper here (a guy,) but wow Yolanda, great post! I'm showing this to my wife.

I agree with the replies here, but want to add one bit of info. The body is resistant to release fat as a fuel source, hence the guideline to exercise a minimum of 30 minutes, preferably more. But, the more fit you are the quicker the body begins to use fat as a fuel. So a fit person begins to use fat as a fuel soon after…

People can mean very different things with that comment. Some mean it as a sincere compliment, and I thank them. Others are confronted by the fact that if you need to lose weight then they need to lose weight, so they avoid their own weight issue by demeaning your desire to be healthy. I don't really have a "come back" for…

There are many good posts here with excellent advice. I add my voice to those who recommend cutting down incrementally. Over a three month period I cut from 2200 to 2000, then 1800, now 1600 or so. I eat three meals of appx 400 calories each and snacks through the day that total 400, so I am never completely full but never…

Wow, you only have twenty minutes a day to burn 600 - 700 calories? That's really tough. My previous sugestions won't help you a bit! After learning of your restrictions about all that I can suggest is a serious cardio dvd like Shaun T's Insanity workout. Most of the ten workouts are 37 to 45 minutes though there are a…

I meant to address a couple of things about P90X in my last post but I forgot. One, some people think that it is just too expensive. I understand; it is pricy. But I am currently in my fifth time going through it and of course I only had to buy it once. I plan to continue using it for years to come so figured on a per…

You asked for more description of Supreme 90, I will do my best, but this is based on reviews I have read not my personal experience. Like P90X it offers a mix of strength training and cardio. As I mentioned earlier, it is not as "slick" of a production as P90X, but for $19.95 your not going to get P90X. The studio where…

I had to do today's AM and PM in the AM back to back. My two dogs knew it was trail run day and got me up at 4:00 AM eager to go. Since it was still early when I got done and there is a chance of rain this afternoon I went ahead and did my bike ride. I'm feeling tired but good!

So glad you got some relief. I wish you the best going forward. If you like the outdoors I recommend trail running; it's easier on the knees and offers senic beauty. I run by a river with my two dogs; I love it! But not everyone has my appreciation of the woods so I don't push it too hard. Hope you enjoy and stick with…
