  • That is most impressive. I find your attitude spot on, knowing yourself, focus on healthy life rather than some arbitrary number on the scale, enjoying life. Yes, while you look fabulous, even your stance is more confident, I find your story of how you got there even more enlightening and inspiring. It is always amazing…
  • Anyone who can run 5 k at a weight in the 300's is pretty amazing in my book. Very awesome. Gives hope to us all.
  • Yours is the kind of story that inspires and once again reaffirms that goals, consistency and motivation is a winning recipe for success. Well done.
  • Hello and welcome As a fellow teacher I know well the stress and thrill of teaching. Often too tired to think about our own health in our pursuit of giving the best to our students (I teach Gr. 8). You will quickly realize that this is a long time commitment that, like your special needs kids you educate, require a slow…
  • Well done Ash As a a father (have two grown up daughters myself) I admire your courage and dedication on your journey of reaching for greater fitness and health. Your tenacity in spite of some ups and downs is a testament to your resilience and perseverance. Those traits will stand you in good stead in many areas of your…
  • It is always so very very cool when I read about stories such as yours. You had so much further to go than I, your hurdles were higher and yet I love the way you made no excuses in the end. And look at all the fabulous rewards you are harvesting now. You inspire me young lady. So strong. Thanks for posting this. Be well.
  • WE had to use slide rules in high school still as calculators were just becoming available then. Had to ask my sweetie to type my essays on a manual typewriter unitl I finally was able to buy a $ 2000 MAcplus with a whopping 512 k internal memory, yep 512 K. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. WE had but 2 channels on…
  • Wow, kind of scary and exhilarating at the same time.
  • It is these kinds of stories that always remind me that it is NEVER too late to make changes for the better. Such an inspiration, even though I am two decades older than you. Great, wonderful dedication and commitment. I bet your kids are thrilled.
  • Greetings to you, fellow Ontarian. I think your new focus on getting healthy, rather than just dropping pounds is exactly the right approach. And with all the walking you do/planning to do you will get so much fitter in no time. I have up and down the fitness/weight ladder myself but find that it is certainly getting…
  • THe one thing that kept going through my mind as I was reading our story was:"SHe is so lucky to have gone through that event" I am jealous. You clearly found out that your limits are much much further than you thought. Very cool. I so hope one of these events will make it to my neck of the world next year here in lovely…
  • Those daily fluctuations are meaningless as many people stated. The 0.2 kg gain are equal to 1 large apple or less than a cup of water, the 0.5 kg loss equal to about 3 potatoes, or 2 cups of water. To drive yourself really crazy you can try weighing yourself 4 times a day and then let paranoia set in:) If you stay within…
  • i enjoyed the "how heavy is the glass" analogy. Sometimes it can seem that we might never be able/allowed to put the glass down. But as I get ready for bed, I shall consider "putting it down". THanks for sharing this.
  • I can only imagine how tiring this must be. I remember the days when my munchkins were little. You seem to be doing a lot of cleaning. How about incorporating exercising into that. Get your Ipod out, plug in some good music and every time you wipe the counter, or do three dishes, throw in some dancing around, do some…

  • Hi there Your story is a bit similar to mine although I have been married for over 25 years now. Until 2 months ago I was at 265 pounds, (also 6 feet) which crept up on me over many years. Since you asked for advice specifically, I would suggest thinking much more about what is in the food you eat (esp. focus on protein,…
  • Hello there. You have come to the right place. Tons of support and good peeps here. Indeed, think of it as a healthy life style change and you are well on your way, the weight loss will follow. Be well.
  • Awesome time and effort. Very cool. MY 10 k is not nearly as fast yet but hoping to reach better soon.
  • What have the Romans ever done for us?
  • Yep, so very true.
  • I too love cycling. I think your focus is spot on, weight can fluctuate so much but those accomplishments of going out there on your bike, reconnecting with the bigger world out there, those are simply precious. It is also a great way to rediscover your neighbourhood. Wishing you continued happy cycling.
  • Found the same. 1/2 cup of rolled large oats was supposed to be 40 g. Actually it came to only 1/4 cup for that weight. And since calories are related to the mass not volume of food, always best to go with mass.
  • Wow, I needed to see that today to get me refocused too. THanks for posting.
  • GReat stuff. I particularly like how you clearly show the key elements of consistency, awareness and self belief. No secret ultra special diets needed, no amazing workout routines, special DVD's, just common sense. Awesome how both you and your wife did this together. Inspiring stuff. BE well.
  • Almost anything by David Gemmel.
  • Wow, that truly is an amazing transformation. Love the expressions in your face in the before and after. The first one looks like you are thinking: "Oh boy" the second like "Oh wow, is that me". Confidence really shines through.
  • Of course the beauty of these spelling mistakes is that it demonstrates the flexibility and plasticity of our brains to derive contextual meaning even when words are misspelled, the wrong word is used or even "whn whle lttrs ar nt incldd, a shrt frm of wrtng srt of":) More power to the brain, Hurrah.
  • Well it looks like you got your wish. You are a hot mama, even without the mini van:)
  • You are extraordinary woman. To overcome so much pain and make such a dedicated effort is outstanding. You certainly came back from the brink. Be well.
  • Thanks for asking Call of the Wild (wanted a wolf just like it) The Count of Monte Cristo (sweet revenge) Robinson Crusoe (fantasized of living on an island too) The last Mohican (Imagined I could have saved him) Wind in the Willows (love that Toad, such a non conformist)
