  • I assume you Test was done during a routine blood draw. If it was done with a finger prick and meter I would requested a second test on a different finger. I have had differences of over thirty points on different fingers just a minute a part.
  • the very best thing you can do is test, test, test. I am not sure where you live but you can purchase an inexpesive meter at Wal-Mart. fifty test strips are $ 9.00 Keep a log of what you ate and when then test every 1/2 hour. You will very quicly get an Idea of what food will cause your blood sugar to spike. This may sound…
  • Take him to a couple of diabetic education classes. Get him involved in cooking for you not for himself. I know when I first was diagnosed my wife was looking at the meals I was preparing with skepticism. Next thing you know she lost 35 pounds. Amazingly she is complaining that I need to get back on the wagon..... I think…
  • Dude are we twins or something? I also was diagnosed last year and proceeded to lose 62 pounds. I stopped tracking and exercising and promptly gained 40 pounds back. I dread going to the doctor at the end of the month as I am sure my A1c will be back in the high range. I got it down to 5.3 and the doctor said come back in…
  • I'm not sure what your carb limit is set to. however you need to realize that not all Carbs are created equal. There are two types of carbohydrates, "Refined" and "Whole Grain". 1200 Calories a day is totally unrealistic for a lifestyle change which you could follow for the rest of your life. Some days I can eat 750…
  • I didn't realize you started on this journey in August. 18 pounds is a great start you may have a little plateau here for a month or more I know I did and it was really frustrating, just keep doing what you doing and you'll notice that over a period of time your weight will trend steadily downward. Just remember what my…

  • Just wait until you get the " hey do I know you" after you have lost the weight. My reply was .....Yes Mom you know me
  • Hey if it happened before midnight put to yesterday an move on. Seriously if a snack and juice makes you feel better physically does it really matter if a few calories on the computer affect the bottom line. Rest assured a few hundred calories will not cause you to gain or lose over the course of your life.
  • Chillax your swallowing all your stress, it took me 3 months to lose 2 pounds. At the end of that three months my A1c was 5.3%. I have lost 3 pounds in four days. The relief of knowing I am doing the right things to keep my numbers good was a huge weight off my shoulders.. (maybe even three pounds)

  • Go to the Type 2 diabetes forum you will find a huge amount of support and good advice. The first thing you need to do is educate yourself on what diabetes is and how you can manage your numbers.
  • I am looking for an all in one that I can use across all my devices I am going to try Health tracker for android. It looks like I can email graphs and results for BG, Blood pressure, and Weight loss all from the same app, to the doctors office. Does any one know of a better option.
  • I am leaving on a cruise September 14th I am going to do the best I can to eat right but, lets be honest one week on a cruise will not be the end of the world. Buca Di Bepo has some really good pasta dishes I have had pasta one time in the last eight months. I would probably try some but hey that's me I live dangerously.…
  • When I was diagnosed I was weighing in a donut shy of 350 pounds. I can only assume that many of us were in the same (overloaded) boat. At my first Diabetic counseling session, it was pointed out to me that I was easily eating around 3500 calories a day just to maintain the weight I was at. My counselor suggested I drop…
  • Bourbon, if I remember MFP then its Bourbon and Water.
  • I WOULD KILL FOR A 135 CHOLESTEROL! of course my last test was a 146 but that's with Crestor.
  • Seriously 1500 hundred calories aren't no thing. Geez Saturday night I had a bacon cheese burger Fries and three beers. Woke up Sunday and said to myself.....Self you need to get back on the program. Then I promptly drank a gallon Growler of a local craft beer and then had cake and ice cream with the kids for my brother…
  • That is an interesting experiment Day one eat a snickers bar and test every half hour until your levels come back down. Day two eat a quest bar or other high fiber bar and test every half hour. I may have to try this this week. Every thing you read would lead you to believe that the fiber will regulate the carbs slowly.…
  • Welcome everyone, This is beyond a doubt the best place to come to if you have been diagnosed T2. Read many of the previous posts and you will learn a good deal about your disease. Every one here has been helpful and caring. Please continue to post updates on your progress as we all like to hear about those victories as…
  • those are really good numbers. That said, My understanding is the meters only have to read plus or minus 20% to be sold. Based on that a spike of 14 points is not really a spike at all. I think if you would have taken a reading 5 minutes latter your readings would have been better or worse.

  • My wife never tried a Brussels sprout until I grilled them on the Weber. I cut them in half and use a Misto sprayer with extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Now she loves them I basically am using one table spoon of fat instead of the butter. I will have to try the Hazel nuts though.
  • Hey if you don't feel comfortable going in the pool then don't. If you need to lose as much weight as you think you go for a walk around the block. Chances are you will be only be able to do one lap. Then tomorrow walk around the block twice. By the end of the month you will be able to do a couple of miles. By then if you…
  • Great News Glad you were able to cut your dosage. I know My doctor let me Cut my dosage in half at the last visit. I almost was a happy as the first time I bought a smaller belt for my pants.
  • Hey..... you know I love a story with a happy ending. Keep up the hard work.
  • I tend to agree with the previous statement from Scubasuenc and Cwrig. I do find it somewhat alarming that educated people believe that diabetes is in remission based on A1c results. I could achieve great results if I cut my carbs to thirty or forty grams a day. But even after six months or even years eating just one…
  • Thank you Funny thing I woke up this morning and my number was 89 I ate low carb (for me) breakfast and my numbers were at 97, 2 hours later. for thirty six hours my numbers were fairly high though.
  • OK....McDonalds has a grilled chicken wrap that has 370 calories with a large unsweetened Ice Tea you can drive through in two minutes. You can tell them Al sent you but you need to practice saying no when they ask you if you want fries with that. Also the correct answer is no when they ask if you want two apple pies for a…
  • Great Job Getting those A1c results are like doing the limbo dance you keep wondering how low you can go.
  • This is an interesting discussion, I went back and looked at my food diary as I really have not been tracking to a specific number. I have simply cut refined carbs out of my diet I gave up bread, white rice, and potatoes for the most part and my numbers have been consistently below 125 1 hour P/P. My last A1c was a 5.3. I…
  • I have a belt hanging from my rack on the wall it was purchased when I was at my heaviest. I punched three new holes in that belt as I lost weight. Then I went out an bought a new size 46 belt, Remember this was the first time in my life I ever purchased a smaller belt intentionally. I see that old belt just hang there…
