The calories you burn during the workout depends on your HR. My suggestion would be to get a HR monitor. I also do insanity and I take my HR several times through each workout and calculate my calories burned. I usually burn around 300-380 calories, depending on which video I'm doing.

Yea they do not time you at all, it's all for fun. My mom and I even walked some of it because there was so many people and it was hard to get around all the walkers. But it's not a competitive run at all.

Fat does not turn into muscle as quickly as you think. It takes a while to change your body composition. If you gain weight right away it's not from gaining muscle.

It's all about energy balance, your calories in need to be less than your calories out. So yea you don't necessarily need to do cardio to lose weight but you really should. That's how you are going to cause that negative energy balance.

You definitely need to eat something before working out, especially since you doing insainity. When you wake up in the morning your glycogen stores are very low since you have been sleeping for the past 8 hours and haven't eaten anything. Eat something small like a granola bar, apple, banana, orange, anyhting like that.…

Yea I'm still a little confused....I record my heart rates during my exercise and I take the average and plug it into an online calculator that tells me how many calories I burned. That number I get is the gross calories then theres another link on the page that says calculate your net calories. So I just don't know hwich…
