Okay so I got the program today and I will be starting in the morning. So, how do I calculate calories burned doing this until my HRM arrives? I have not opened the box yet so I have no idea what came with my Insanity package but thought you all here would have some thoughts on this.

If you do the entire 45 minute workout (don't include the fit test), assume at least 400 calories burned. Could be more, depends how hard you actually push it. the 800-1000 you hear about ar ethe the super fit athletes do.
  • If you want the most accurate results, buy a heart rate monitor and wear it while you workout. That will make sure you eat the right amount per day, in case one day you have a harder workout, etc.

On average, it seems you can burn between 500-1,000 calories a day during the first month of the program, and then it slowly decreases as you get in better shape and lose weight.

You can take your heart rate manually for 10 seconds using your wrist/neck. I use a program to calculate online and it's free. I think it is pretty acurate. Here is the site. http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm Hope it helps - I really recommend checking your heart rate when doing Insanity if you are really going for it! Have fun and enjoy your new program. I loved it!

I only burn around 300 calories doing this workout, but am definitely noticing a difference. Take your measurements for the best results. I'm measuring myself everytime I do a fit test. The workout is tough and you will be drenched in sweat by the time you finish the warm up but it does get easier.
  • The calories you burn during the workout depends on your HR. My suggestion would be to get a HR monitor. I also do insanity and I take my HR several times through each workout and calculate my calories burned. I usually burn around 300-380 calories, depending on which video I'm doing.
  • My wife and I have been on the program for about 2 1/2 weeks. We've been logging it as "Aerobics, high impact".

I got my HRM and will be logging whatever it says about calories burned. I like it so far and think its working well with my walks. And its a wrist HRM which is awesome! :) Anyone who wants to add me can. I start on Monday. :)

I do the entire amount of time. I input 1/2 as calisthenics and 1/2 as elliptical trainer. Seems crude but it's worked for me. Can't WAIT to get my HRM so I can be more accurate!!!!

I believe measuring is KEY. I lost 3 inches from my belly before I lost a pound on the scale!

I will measure and weigh after 30 days, then again on day 63. I think its good to see results here and there. Although I hate my scale! LOL
  • I'm in pretty good shape and I burn around 350 cals per workout according to my HRM - probably a little more if I count the cool down stretching (which I usually don't). I'm 5'7" and 127 pounds....
