How you feel about interacting with others is a very personal opinion and i get that. As for me, I'm not training for the Olympics nor am i a paid professional so, why so serious??? Smiles and acknowledgements are cool with me. Yeah sometimes it is a bit off-putting if you're in a zone, but no more than someone exchanging…

Getting close to loving running. Always have seen it as a chore. I love the feeling of accomplishment when i'm done and it is such an individual thing that i do for myself - not relying on equipment or gym schedule or commute. I went for a run after watching game 2 of NBA finals at 11pm - what an awesome, peaceful…

Keeping it simple, i'm in for being sincere and actually reading peoples' posts and diary before commenting - from that point on it is a matter of personal opinion whether you think it "rocks" or not. But for the love of Pete, please be sincere enough to actually read it and not just hit "like" or comment like a robot...

I'm really digging the wheat thins "popped" variety - big serving for under 200 cals. Very crunchy and savory and lots of flavor choices.

I cheated and looked - the aviator shades threw me a bit, but you still look really young.

45 and getting my swagger back. Have lost close to 80 lbs in a year and a half but more satisfying is that i'm able to run farther, lift harder, still hoop with high school age kids, hike harder, etc. than i ever have in my life. MFP has been an education in nutrition and portion control - the exercise part has been about…

Most people are not going to notice for all the reasons said above. I would like to add that wearing the same clothing hides the fact too. It wasn't until i had stuff taken in or better yet bought some new wardrobe stuff that it was too obvious to ignore. I'm in for treating myself to new stuff after hitting goals (and…

This. I would also add that the tortilla chips are waaay more calories than i thought so that is a pitfall to watch out for. I often eat out at mexican and keep my orders very simple with only a few ingredients so I can fairly accurately eyeball a cup of rice, 1/2 cup of refried beans and a simple meat like grilled…

Funny thing about the hamstrings - they can cause all kinds of referred pain. (knees, back, hips) I go through the same thing (had most of cartilege in knees removed during an athletic career) and it never fails - hamstring stretches alleviate my knee pain. It may feel like bone on bone, but give it a try - just go really…

thanks so much for all of the good advice! like i said, a lot of new stuff to consider but i'm really thinking i've found a new fun thing in life. I always viewed running as punishment (team sports coaches always threatened us with it) but found myself enjoying it the past few times. I'm trying to keep my feet under me to…

marathon is far off my radar at this point but good to know i wouldn't have to be stick-thin for it to be a possibility. What kind of 5K time do you need to realistically think about marathon training?

definitely disciplining myself to go SLLLOWW downhill. Recovery is important to allowing me to get a distance that i'm proud of. I like the idea of powering up the hill - should be a negative split uphill vs. downhill?

I love pushups for all the reasons mentioned. Especially like varying hand position and incline/decline. Beach body? nah - I'm shooting for the Prison Yard body!

good advice - gonna add some warm up. wife makes me wear light colored clothing too haha. tried to walk out of the house in all black the other day at sundown...lots of new things to consider.

Wow. The grammar shot you just took devolves your or you're? Argument. Not on your team for that. Decent thread with varied opinions voiced. Don't muddy the waters. Dang, relax.

Been there. Been that big guy with a long way to go. Still am. Before I know someone's story, I offer generic but sincere casual compliments. Good work today, etc. Best compliments i've received was after significant improvement and after I'd established a consistent work record. Felt i'd earned it . I woulda felt…

just got back from the tailor having all my suits and jackets taken in. $100 bucks lighter in the wallet too, but so worth it. My suits were hiding my weightloss and feeling great today! It's like 90 degrees here but i'm still wearing my jacket haha.

I agree that too much time and energy can be spent on forums. I find that i really only get excited and learn more when i only check it out once or twice a week instead of throughout the day (which i found myself doing). It can be more addictive and more of a time suck than facebook! Keep your friends list lean and mean…

oh, and as for setbacks, I'm in it for the longhaul. A bad day does not break me unless i allow it to be followed by another bad day, etc. Hope this helps.

You've probably heard this before, but i've actually changed my mindset and it works for me: This is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. I simply have turned my back on a lot of things that i used to regularly eat as a God-given right and now view them as "treats" that i only ocassionaly indulge. It helps if you are logging and…

Good for you! Best wishes and enjoy the journey!

I started with a number in mind but have come to realize that i'm just seeking some discipline in this area of life. I want to be AND look fit as it will be an outward expression of self-discipline and that will make me feel good about myself. I'm not a control-freak by any means, in fact the opposite, but i do want some…

Almost anything by MGMT although i had a great workout last week to late 80's all-girl club music like The Cover Girls and Expose so it really is a mood thing. Nothing better than a banger coming on at the very end of your cardio workout to finish in a sprint.

Two things to be wary of in life: 1. crack 2. gaps

Good on you! I spent the first 12 months of my weightloss journey not really caring about calories, just mindful to eat "less" and it worked for a while. Went down from 315 to 265 in about 6 months (lots of exercising but no real sense of counting calories). I then stalled for a good 5 or 6 months despite upping my…

not so much into peanut butter but if you feel the same way about it as i do about pizza, i totally understand.

You had me at 'pizza"?

Ima try to experiment with a "fourth" meal and make my lunch and dinner smaller. I work out at 6pm everyday (before dinner) and could maybe spread my lunch calories out a little to have more available energy for the workout. Sunday prepday sounds like a winner. I really admire and appreciate the fitness competitor look -…

What's your experience with eating several small "meals" throughout the day? How does it effect your appetite? I'm thinking of going with this approach but worried that i'll just stay hungry all the time. I currently eat two pretty significant (1000 calorie) meals and a smallish breakfast to start the day. I can see that…
